So anyway, there was this guy in one of my classes in college. He had an accent and we all thought he was Australian. So, one day we asked him where in Australia he was from. Turns out, he was actually from WI and just had a speech impedement. Oooops.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) I heard Britney told him via a text message. WHich...if true, is excellent. Might I add, K Fed is no longer my idol. Talk about post-modern.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) Yes. Why should he just tell the media everything going on in the White House, government, CIA, and whatever the hell else? You all got what you wanted - control of Congress and the EVIIIIIIIIL Donald Rumsfeld to resign all within 24 hours of each other. So, for just one day, can you let it rest for once? I guess not. He answered the question of how can you work with some one like Nancy who has been ridiculing him for months and years... politics makes you say stupid things - and I think he included himself in that as well. But of course, Bush and Cheney need to go, too. Hail Nancy! Most polarizing post in the whole damn thread. Possibly all day. I would really appreciate one post of yours that doesn't resort to mocking and hyperbole in this forum. Sorry, that's harsh, but you cry partisanship all day, and then you post something like this? Please.

Sorry you didn't win. I was crossing my fingers for you, but hopefully you'll find more funding next time and kick some arse.

Did they have a prenup?

Who I did NOT vote for. Pretty funny website (okay, maybe scary is a better word).

St. Olaf is great for Psych. I have 3 other friends in advanced Psych graduate programs. But I'm sure that other school is nice too. . .

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) Hevesi is less corrupt than Giuliani. He had a state chauffeur drive his wife around in her car with her credit card being used for gas. Giuliani gave his wife a full NYC police detail to his mistress. While married. Plus his name sounds like a cognac. Added bonus! I think I'm going with the green party candidate, less corrupt is still too corrupt for me.

I'm just excited to vote tomorrow. I've got my sheet all written out with who I want to vote for. Although, there were a few positions with no good choices (NYS Comptroller), but I'm still pretty pumped.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) I thought they were singing the Cardigans I think it was "Closer to Fine."

QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 09:06 AM) According to IMDB she did not write it. She did write it, though.

I almost died when Ed Helms and Jim started singing the Indigo Girls. That cracked me up.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Do you seriously find that it is only athiests who speak to the other side with any sort of condescention? As far as my experience goes, I've run into people from all walks of life who are 100% convinced that their beliefs are the right ones, and since I disagree, I'm a lesser person than they are (whether or not they think I'm going to hell). Athiests just seem to wind up with more of the scorn, IMO, because there are fewer people who agree with them, making them the wierd "other" that you notice because they're not like the majority. I think there is plenty (and equal) amounts of condescension on both sides. When I went to a Christian school I was sick of the condescending Christians, now that I'm in grad school, I'm sick to DEATH of condescending atheists. To be honest, in my mind there isn't a lot of difference between being told I'm going to hell or being told I'm in a cult. I guess I'm just not a big fan of evangelicals--be they Christian, Atheist or whatever.

10 Questions for the new Bishop. Bishop Jefferts Schori As I've previously posted, I think this will be a huge turning point for the Episcopal Church and, possibly, the whole of the Anglican Communion (Church of England, ect). I've read some interviews with her and she seems very intelligent (she also has a PhD in oceanography) and I'm really excited to hear her sermons and see where she takes the church.

Real Simple I also get various professional journals, but they are far less fun to read.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) Please in the transcript for this commercial point out where he talked about anything else concerning Claire except for stem cell research. He may not have mentioned the initive by name, but surely you are not stupid enough to think that wasn't what he was talking about. Or are you? Cool it. There is absolutely no need to get personal here.

I *hate* that they call it female "circumsision."

DAMMIT! I just got back from the doctor. I have a sinus infection, ear infection AND strep throat. Wtf? I didn't even think anything was wrong other than a minor sinus infection. And I had a fever of 101. Seriously, I must be part pitbull because I feel no pain.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) Which is of course the whole reason for writing, and for posting, that Onion piece. Yes, it's a nice bit of satire.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) In his case you don't even have to look at the media. He's been in front of congress at least a dozen times over the past 5 years begging for SCR. As for his shaking, I strongly suggest you watch the clip from his congressional appearances in '02, '03, and '05 specifically. He shakes a lot when trying to stay in one spot. His reality is he has Parkinson's. No manipulating that. To build on what Steff said, it's called a resting tremor for a reason. The tremor usually stops with intential movement, so sitting still will give much more characteristic movements than, say, gesturing. And I don't disagree with your earlier point, it is sad that diseases need a famous name to get some cash thrown their way.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) It's pretty effing sad that a movie/tv/or singing sensation has to have an illness or disease before it get's any attention. Not shame on those trying to cure the problem.. shame on everyone else for needing a Ted, Chris, or MJF to give a s***. You did see that the Ted Danson article was from The Onion, right?

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) The fetus one yeah. I was just making a point that making an effective ad isn't always acceptable. But it's not more or less typical. Watch any recent speech he gives and it's not even close. If he didn't take his medicine and then filmed the ad, it's no different than a paralzyed person not using their wheelchair just to show they can't use their legs. It's misrepresenting the condition he's usually in. I'm not picking sides here, I'm very much pro-stem cell research. I'm against sh*tty ads that make us pick politicians for the wrong reasons (emotion versus intelligence). According to Balta's find above, the sh*tty ad worked. Instead of people looking at the issues surrounding stem cell research, they got moved by a guy shaking uncontrollably on the TV. If you read his statements (and most of this thread), MJF WAS taking his meds when he was doing this commercial. So, his ads would be analogous to showing a quadrapalegiac in the wheelchair.

I wouldn't see it, it seems poorly made and I generally dislike non-documentary political films. They always seem heavy handed and stupid, and this one seems no different. But I wouldn't want to stop a theatre from showing it either.
