GAME THREAD 7-16-2005 SOX vs INJUNS
Whitewashed in '05 replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) 101 Pitches for MB through 7 innings. MARK I LOVE YOU! We've outscored Cleveland 15-3 in this series. God wouldn't you hate to be those guys? Supposedly having a solid offense, being outscored 15-3, and then going into the 4th game of a series and having to face an All Star sitting on 13 wins? That should be it for Mark since he did start the ASG. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) I'm pretty sure Black Jack had the longest streak in the last 15 years or so, and I'm pretty sure it was 48. He keeps this up this streak alone might win him the Cy. Hopefully the Cy and the well deserved GG. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) There a few guys in our lineup still that can hit much better: Juan, Pauly, and AJ. Juan atleast is starting to make solid contact, Pauly has looked much much better as of late and I still think AJ will get better, he's just to good of a hitter not to. OT: Why the hell does everyone think we were the first team to 10 wins, I've heard that on national broadcasts a million times. Even though Crede isn't at 100% anymore I think he can get hot as usual in the 2nd half. -

As long as those "automatic outs" start reducing in the sox lineup we can do more damage. A lot of the sox failure to hit in the first half had to do with all the automatic outs, if they can be consistent with quality AB's they could put up much better numbers. -

Everyone keeps saying the sox is some of the worse in offense in the league but they really don't put the ALC in consideration since our division has a few teams on top of the pitching catagories. Not to say that is the reason were not that great at hitting since some of it also has to do with the players themselves. From what I see though, there are a few players right now that are close to being locked in, if a few more players can get in a groove we can be even better. -

I think everyone here has AJ on their minds (both Burnett and Pier .) He has K'ed a lot more than usual and his avg is way below his career avg. -

Buehrle is falling behind hitters a little but hes still putting them away. Hopefully he puts it in cruise control starting now. -
Seeing as how we just signed Brad Fullmer maybe KW is thinking a Fullmer/Gload platoon for 06. Especially since hes seen this season where good pitching can get you. I am sure he will be willing to replace Kong with a guy like Gload and save the money for Burnett and Garland. I don't know whats going on with Fullmer's injury but I am sure he will be ready by 06.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Byrnes is the most overrated fielder in the game. Even more overrated than Jeter. He gets painfully bad jumps, often breaking the wrong direction, but makes up for it with a diving stop that will somehow be #1 on Web Gems. A good fielder would never have to dive for the balls that Byrnes makes spectacular plays on. He plays good against the sox. I don't have MLB extra innings or anything like that so I only watch him against the sox.
-
Wow Eric Brynes, as much as I loved watching that guy play I am glad to see him leave. He always gave the White Sox trouble. I would love to have him instead of Timo.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) He has had one relief appearance and failed to throw a fastball for consistant strikes. Call me an ass for it being "jitters" but this was the knock against the kid in the minor leagues as well. I don't believe he'll be anything special until he can throw consistant strikes. No he wasn't throwing his fastball for strikes the time he got hit but he also wasn't throwing anything else but fastballs. I think he needs to mix his pitches and just don't rely on the fastball all the time. I think he will be ok, to become our closer he needs to have consistency. If he succeeds he adds a lot to our bullpen so im praying.

If you don't like listening to him then mute the tv...I wanna say more but I don't wanna be too mean. Hawk is a lot better than what is out there plain and simple. I love the energy he puts into the game like any other sox fan would.

ESPN Loser Has This To Say about the Sox

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) By the way with all the non love we get from national sports stations and writers, did anybody see during the home run derby when they put the camera on the white sox 4 guys and they were all sitting together away from the other people. Just made me think about the "We dont care" thing with buehrle, garland, pods, and paulie, sitting together by themselves. I didn't see that, thats pretty cool though. -
QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Well its nothing really special but after the HR derby the legends softball game is on and Bo Jackson strolled up to the plate wearin the one and only SOX hat....take that KC....... BO KNOWS! Thats badass.

ESPN Loser Has This To Say about the Sox
Whitewashed in '05 replied to Southside hitmen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) The White Sox reached the All-Star break with a nine-game lead in the AL Central, but the doubters are still out there. Count ESPN.com columnist Bill Simmons among them. In his midseason look at the AL, he gives the South Siders a couple of dubious awards. First is "The Napoleon Dynamite Award for Most Inexplicable Success Story." "How are the White Sox headed for 112 wins right now?" Simmons writes. "Really, 112 wins? Does that seem reasonable for a team with nobody hitting above .280 and Dustin Hermanson as their closer?" Simmons also picks on right-hander Jon Garland. Noting that Garland is on pace for 25 wins but only 110 strikeouts, he bestows on him "The James Baldwin Memorial Award for Best Candidate for a Second-Half Collapse." "Would you say Garland is another James Baldwin or another Tommy John?" Simmons asks. "I'm leaning toward another Baldwin." I really don't care about getting any love from ESPN but even after what we've done we still don't get the benefit of the doubt. This is pretty bad, this guy has no f***ing clue, as long as Carrie Wood K's 300 and loses 15 with a 4.50 hes still 10 times better than Garland, according to him. -
QUOTE(thelatinoheat_30 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) i used to like him, but his stupid repetitive hawkisms are getting annoying. always talking about "everything is self-induced" and prolly the worst part is when there's a deep fly ball, he always does his "stretch, stretch" call and it RARELY is a homer, maybe 9 out of 10 times he says it, its just an out, it's like a curse, does anyone else notice this? he also tends to be too much of a homer and thinks he knows everything cause he's been around for 43 years. and whenever something good happens, he has to mention how ozzie was somehow involved. and the list goes on and on. also, does anyone notice how dj does a much better of technical analysis on sat. games of the week than w/ hawk? i think that says a lot about hawk. personally, i'd like to see dj stay(brings some comic relief and solid analysis), hawk can go and bring in steve stone. also, the "put it on the board" is getting kinda old. Light em up...lol jk. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think Hawk is great, like someone else said you just have to know what to listen to and tune out some of his other thoughts. I do hate it when he says "he JUST JUST missed that one" and its a shallow fly to CF.

This crap about blowing against the A's really has to stop tomorrow. Next season I think Ozzie should have a talk to this team that the A's are just like any other ballclub. I mean the A's do play good against us but a lot of times we screw ourselves, the team needs to stop letting this team get in their heads.

A's at White Sox 7/9 Gameday Thread
Whitewashed in '05 replied to AddisonStSox's topic in 2005 Season in Review
Timo did a lot better than most of our hitters today, he added to the whopping 2 base hits all game. -
I am not against acquiring Day as long as we don't give up too much. Obviously if KW is looking at this guy during our great season he sees something in him he thinks he can improve. Count rebounded great in his last start and its because of the staff that made him throw more fastballs and gave him confidence. Hanging around Buehrle and Garland will help him out a ton, especially when u can compare him and Garland. If they both have some of the same mental issues that keeps them from being good and KW thinks he can fix it why not? If he doesn't work out, release him. I don't mind this move at all, being around great pitching like we have will make you change. I remember what the big 3 said in Oakland, they all said their season was like a big competition, everyone tried to out-do each other on the mound. Like I said if KW thinks they can fix him, im all for it.
