Indians vs. White Sox, 05/18, 7:10, CSN
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) 81 at bats? C'mon now. Ozzie just being dumb. Well last year in a full season, lefties hit better by a .103 OPS over righties. In 2009, the difference was .286 in favor of lefties.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) I'll give Ozzie some slack for stacking it with lefties, because Masterson's has been great against righties and not very good against lefties, it's actually pretty significant. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2011&t=p That is pretty significant.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) I wish I had a bookie. I'd be all over Masterson tossing a no-hitter tonight. This will probably be the anomaly game where we somehow score against him.

That one-game benching sure sent a message to Juan that he needs to get his act together.

5/17 Games
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) There's just no way they can think that now. I refuse to believe that they are unconditional supporters of JP. Well Ozzie keeps trotting him out there for starts, including tonight...

5/17 Games
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) While I agree with you, I think the Sox made the right decision. If they weren't ready to play Viciedo full time, he should have been held in the minors. No point in calling him up, only to have him sit on the bench and PH and play in a couple games. Makes no sense. When he's called up next, it should be for him to permanently stay. Guy is going to be a great offensive player, imo. I will agree with that. I don't want him up to bat five times a week, but I think Ozzie's stubbornness to not realize he is a much better option that Pierre is sickening. That's what really peeves me; that KW and Ozzie for some reason think Pierre is still an adequate player.

5/17 Games
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) It is worth noting here that in a very similar situation with the Angels happened exactly the same way the Sox did it. LAA has Mike Trout just absolutely destroying the minor leagues. When Vernon Wells went on to the DL, Trout wasn't even a consideration for a call up despite being a recent #1 draft pick, and putting up .313 ave and 1.001 OPS. Instead they called up Reggie Willits who was hitting .200 with an OPS of .554. Mike Trout is also 19 years old, and has barely over 100 at-bats above Single-A ball. Dayan has already been in the majors for about the same at-bats Trout has been in AA. I don't think those situations are comparable.

How important is this 2 game series with CLE
I think it's important to show Cleveland that we can compete. Unfortunately we have to face Masterson who owns us, on the other hand, we have fared well against Carmona. With the immense amount of division games left, these two still are pretty trivial in the grand scope, but it would be a nice mental boost to sweep the top team in the division. I think we split. Lose to Masterson and beat Carmona.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2011 -> 09:46 AM) That's the thing I wonder if is why he keeps getting held back. Not only is he 22, but he has been here for a very short amount of time. At least I hope that is why. What's holding him back is White Sox idiocy.

5/17 Games
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 18, 2011 -> 09:28 AM) The importance of this shouldn't be understated. For a guy known for lacking plate discipline, to suddenly start drawing walks at an above average rate and still hit well... this is very good to see. He is only 22 years old, too. I mean he is still incredibly young, and it is so nice to see him adjusting so well. He is absolutely ranking at AAA right now after hitting very well in his stint in the majors last year. Seems like it would be the perfect time to insert his hot bat in a struggling lineup, especially when you have his position open basically by futility. Sigh.

Bad Ass ALL STAR Vato Loco???
Konerko should make it. But I don't know how Santos isn't the top reliever in baseball at this point. He should make it too assuming he doesn't collapse here. He hasn't given up a run for crying out loud. And we all know how useless saves is as a statistic since it's predicated on things outside a reliever's control.

Teahen on DL, McPherson recalled from AAA
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 17, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) When combined with defensive stats and adjusted for position played, Pierre is actually the worst player in the bigs. Actually just looked at his WAR on fangraphs, and yes, indeed worst player according to WAR. Ha.

Teahen on DL, McPherson recalled from AAA
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN'T BEEN PAYING ATTENTION. HE IS STATISTICALLY THE WORST PLAYER IN MLB. He's actually only 172 out 192 of qualified hitters in OPS. Haha. Somehow he is actually better than Hanley Ramirez this year. But you know that I am right there with you in my hatred of Pierre. At this point, he is a sunk cost who will be gone after the year. So why keep trotting him out there every day only to see him misplay fly balls, get caught stealing and ground into double plays as a fast, left-handed hitter?

Teahen on DL, McPherson recalled from AAA
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 17, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) No he wasn't. Dayan is no longer a 3B. I don't get why people aren't getting this. This was a temporary move to replace a bench player. Dayan is not in our plans to ride the bench. And he shouldn't be. Teahen doesn't play third, either anymore. It boils down to the fact that Dayan is eons better than Juan Pierre. And we have to probably the fourth best hitter in the entire organization in AAA for no reason.

Teahen on DL, McPherson recalled from AAA
A guy who had a .840 OPS in the majors last year in over 100 at-bats (and he is raking at AAA) is past up for a 30-year-old AAAA player. F This Team.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) Taj/Noah isn't going to get the Magic to bite, that's for sure so it's useless to talk about. You're going to have to start with Deng/Noah(it's going to cost more than that obviously) and if you're trading Deng away you really do start to change the whole dynamic of this team. With the new CBA, Deng isn't going anywhere. His value remains highest to the Bulls.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:07 PM) Noah and Taj would be the starting point, you are going to have to give up far more than that, plus you would have limited to no payroll flexibility (depending on new cba). Im sorry but a I really dont see Howard,Boozer, Rose + scrubs as a better team. I like Howard, but unless the Bulls have some tricks up their sleeve, getting him would cost far to much and just isnt going to happen. Well it's really the same starting lineup with Howard instead of Noah (clear win) and then a bench of Korver, Watson, Asik as the main guys (I am assuming Brewer is traded for cap-matching purposes for Howard). I think that team is as good, personally.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) The only way they trade Howard to us is if Rose is involved. No way they take Taj and Noah. I don't know. You offer the Bobcats' pick and maybe a Ronnie Brewer, it becomes intriguing. Howard is gone from Orlando after 2012, so the Magic will have to trade him to get something back. It really comes down to Brook Lopez and Andrew Bynum. Lopez is a soft big and Bynum is injury prone. While Noah may not be Lopez, Taj certainly offers some terrific value. It all depends who the Nets would be willing to offer in addition to Brook IMO. I personally think the Lakers won't trade for him unless maybe Gasol is the centerpiece, which is completely possible.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
The Bulls are only really going to need one or two players for the upcoming year: PG: Rose SG: FA SF: Deng PF: Boozer C: Noah PG: Watson SG: Korver SF: Brewer (although both he/Korver are really 2.5s) PF: Taj C: Asik PF/C: Thomas G: FA/Draft/Butler You have to bring back K. Thomas. He was perfect for the Bulls this year. Then you have really only two spots open. I am assuming the Bulls will release Bogans after July 1 when his contract becomes non-guaranteed (don't quote me on that though). And then you have another guard spot opened on the bench as basically the 11th or 12th man. The Bulls will obviously look to upgrade that 2-guard spot and add maybe one more shooter off the bench. I think Rasual Butler actually fits the Bulls 11th/12th man need perfectly. So whomever we draft is really not going to be active this year or play meaningful minutes. I would much rather draft a couple of international players and develop them in the mode of Omer and what the Spurs do. I would like possibly Nikola Mirotic (a big man who shoots; poor man's Dirk) and maybe a speedy point guard.

Goosebumps. Seriously got shades of the MJ crew there.- The Baseball Houdini
QUOTE (The Baconator @ May 16, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) I was definitely siding with the crowd saying that this is far more entertaining than the standard 'run on the field and get arrested' guys but after reading the info on the actual video I am not as supportive of it- apparently it was in the bottom of the ninth as Carlos Lee was trying to tie the game. As a fan of a team, I do think that's ridiculous to pull in that scenario; I imagine it totally has to take the batter out of his rhythm (think about how mad JD was when Cabrera just tried to steal). Not to say that there is a 'time' that I would be like "oh hell, everyone go run on the field" but I know this was certainly not the time I would want to see it. Yeah, but the Astros suck, so I am sure they happy to see something moving on the field at a good pace.- 5/15 games
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 15, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) Actually, his WHIP is 0.315. He pitched 2 perfect innings today. Ah, I was going on Baseball Cube's numbers, which weren't updated from today.- Sergio Santos
Dustin Hermanson in 2005 pitched 21 straight innings to start the year without giving up a run. First run was given up on June 1. Can Sergio make it farther?- 5/15 games
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 15, 2011 -> 10:45 PM) He's also facing, for the most part, very undisciplined but talented hitters in AA. He needs a stop in AAA before I would promote him, especially since I've read his fastball is only OK. Dewon Day had a K/9 of 17.3 over 25 innings at AA, and he was and still is garbage. I don't promote Remenowsky without first seeing him in AAA. Yeah that is true. But Day had a 1.52 WHIP compared to Renenowsky's 0.38. - 2010-2011 NBA Thread
