Duke's Top 50
Sorry, but I am not buying JD as the 22nd best player in baseball. I would easily take your 48th guy (Soto) over JD. With all aspects of baseball in consideration, I cannot say JD is among the top 50 players in baseball. He is above average in two aspects of the game right now (hitting for power and average). People say his arm is above average, well he can't locate that "tremendous arm" for s***. He runs like a old man and his fielding suffers because of it.

Alexei on move to SS, Viciedo...
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) I heard yesterday that the Yankees were really interested. It would be interesting to see if they'd pay a fortune for another Cuban player after their bad experience with Contreras. Well if they do, then they can just trade him to us after 1.5 years

Alexei on move to SS, Viciedo...
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 01:48 AM) Has anyone seen any updates on the Viciedo "sweepstakes," quotes from Torres or other teams about the workouts, etc.? I was thinking there might be something in the Dominican press, but I haven't taken the time to search for it on the net. FROM THE TRIB

Soxtalk's Biggest Loser Club
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) Not at all. 9-3 on Wednesday. 8:30-1:30 yesterday and today. I'm pretty much obsessed right now. I want to get this s*** off asap. I've got another big time motivation in that I have a HS reunion coming up in May. I want to dominate. Cottage cheese? I'm open to pretty much anything. But yuck! More power too ya, haha. Yeah cottage cheese! I think it's pretty much tasteless, and sort of like skim milk the bad taste can go away after a few servings. Try it!

Soxtalk's Biggest Loser Club
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) It's been a hell of a first week for me so far. I've never eaten so healthy before in my life. I'm on these cookies n cream meal-replacement shakes for breakfast and lunch (I only eat fruit in between the shakes). My dinner basically consists of any combination of tuna, fish, baked chicken, multiple veggies, vegetable soup and plenty of salad. I've consumed more water in the last week than any other human being on earth. I've been doing high-intensity cardio every day for a week. I've worked out at Bally's a combined 16 hours in the last 3 days. I'm tired and sore as hell. But I haven't felt this good in a while. I'm sure I've lost 5 pounds or so (atleast I feel like I have). But like I said earlier, I don't plan on checking until New Years day. Please tell me you're exaggerating. That probably working out too much. You risk over-training or burning out working out that much. But it seems like you have found a good diet plan. But if you feel you can work out that much and not have negative effects, then continue. Also, another good snack food is cottage cheese. There are fat free types, but in my experience they taste horrible, so I have like 1% cottage cheese, there is some fat, but it's very small. It's a great snack with lots of protein for helping in those workouts.

School Presentation Help Please
Thanks for the responses already. Pulp Fiction is a good one, I am now watching it online because I have only seen bits and pieces. Thanks gang! More movies are welcome too, I can use more than one example.

School Presentation Help Please
Okay, so I am trying to draw a comparison from a book of philosophy, specifically narratives in history, and something current such as a movie similar. So are there any movies that start with the end and then the flash back to the beginning and the rest of the movie works toward that end? I know there has to be some movies like this but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Please let me know if my question even makes sense. Thanks in advance...

This is something that will get better every week IMO, but not a bad start.

Versteeg could win the Calder Trophy. He is in the top two of rookies in points and he seems to be a tremendous playmaker. What a stud out of nowhere!

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Damn the Hawks looked good tonight. I know they were rested and it was a back to back for Calgary, but still, they won 6-1 and it probably would have been worse if not for some great saves by Kiprusoff. Even Toews finally got a goal. I am trying to keep a level head about the Hawks. While they are terrific at home, I need to see this energy translate to the road, but man they look good. The upcoming-six game road trip will be very telling for this team. Kaner is just a stud and now both goalies are looking great. Can't wait to get to some games over my winter break.

I am serious, how do you line up offsides on a punt return? What a moron.

This is so frustrating, there is absolutely no pash rush, f***ing blitz Babich, you moron.

Still waiting for a blitz any time now. Once Tennessee scores here, either a TD or FG, game is over. Bears can't get to scores with Grossman.

'06 Rex prolly hits Devin Hester there ala Berrian that year. At least GB is losing, I am more afraid of them than Minny.

Heindricht (sp?) is helping tennessee win this game so much. He is giving the Bears a 90+ yard field every time. Where's Maynard?

Grossman is done today. I mean he will play, but he won't do anything to help us at least. Still waiting for Babich and the D to get some pressure. maybe a blitz? Still waiting for Vasher to cover anybody and get a pick like he did two years ago. Devin Hester has been horrible in KR/PR this year, I don't know how much its the blocking, but he has done nothing. I never thought I would miss Kyle Orton so much, but Grossman is just so bad.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 01:19 PM) I can do skim milk. Is there an ideal number of glasses you're supposed to drink a day? Is it good with cereal? I had planned on drinking the low fat 2% milk. But if skim will help me achieve my goal faster, I'm all for it. Skim's taste is just about different for everybody. I like it with cereal, but some don't. I try to drink two glasses a day, so about 16 oz. But there is not ideal number for how many glasses a day, at least I don't think. The taste definitely grows on people, though.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) The Bears rush 4 everytime I know that's why I say bring a CB or something. Bring Payne on a blitz who is a great blitzer as a safety, something to get Collins rattled and throw a bad ball.

We can't get any pass rush on Collins. Come on guys, he is as immobile in the pocket as any NFL QB, bring a corner blitz or something to get him under some pressure.

Soxtalk's Biggest Loser Club
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) I'm in this damn club now. I started working out yesterday. I went walking for about 90 minutes. Then I went to L.A. fitness for about two hours. Not bad for the first day. My goal is to lose 50 pounds. I don't plan on checking my weight every week. Especially during the holiday season. I don't want to get discouraged if I have a bad week every now and then. I don't plan on checking until the first of the year. But I will post my daily progress. Question for Rex or anybody in the club, what do your diets consist of? Obviously I'm cutting out the fastfoods, fried foods, pastas, beer, ect. I've decided to cut out meats for a while. I'm sticking to chicken (except fried), tuna, turkey, fish, samon. I'm gonna load up on salad, fruits and veggies. I'm done with soda and chocolate milk. Just gonna stick with water and powerade. Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Skim milk. I don't mind the taste at all, but some do. But skim milk has no fat and gives tons of calcium and protein. Protein is what is needed to help make fat turn into muscle. But even if you are just trying to lose weight, it's great to drink because it helps repair muscles after working out and allows you to recover faster.

New/old names mentioned by Phil Rogers....
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) I agree with all this. Cruz unfortunately is Type A though. Cruz pros: -very good stuff -healthy -capable of pitching a lot of innings out of the pen -capable of working in multiple roles -previous success in the AL Cruz cons: -we lose our 1st round draft pick -likely will command 3 years or more, in part due to Linebrink's deal setting the market -likely will command around $5M+ per year, again in part due to the deals given by us to Linebrink and Dotel It might be worth it to shop around for relievers via trade. Personally, I'd rather look to deal a prospect like Shelby, who is a good player and should make the majors but doesn't really fit well anywhere, than lose a first rounder. Cruz has never been good in the AL, FWIW. 7.44 ERA with Oakland in 2005. I would love to have him though, but not at the cost of a first round pick and $4 million + salary.

Sox interested in Cuban 3rd Sacker
This quote from Cowley makes me wonder either A) Cowley is a moron and thinks the Sox are going start at 3b a 19-year-old Cuban defector or B) KW is serious about this guy as a starter next year at third. I go with the first, IMO, Cowley is making too many assumptions about this kid like that he would fill Crede's spot and that he stays at third.
