Tough inning, extra inning games make me so nervous. But a win in extra innings at home is just amazing for team morale. Come on Octavio!!

Zumaya in the 9th will be a challenge for the Sox, but this at-bat is huge. You really need Alexei to get on because you cannot have Uribe leading off the 9th. I would Alexei gets on and maybe pinch Wise, but then you have Fields at third for the 9th, but more importantly, you CANNOT have Uribe lead off the 9th. Zumaya has great stuff, but he doesn't hit the strike zone, you need to take 1 maybe 2 pitches against him.

8/05 Games
Francisco Hernandez seems more of a back-up catcher than a starter now. He was once considered a possible all-star starter after he had a great minor league debut, but now he has regressed a bit. His defense and lack of hitting make him a solid back-up in the future. Hopefully, he surprises and developes in the next couple years kinda of like Geo Soto (although i don't know how natural that was).

2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) They've been living off being hot at home all season, timely HR's walk offs, bloops, and wind-aided hits. When the playoffs come their SP's are far superior, but their pen isnt very good and the offensive miracles like Theriot, Fontenot, DeRosa, arent going to be .300-.400 guys. I wouldn't call Theriot an offensive miracle. He is a very good hitter, but has an okay OPS. Fontenot isn't a slouch either as he was a first-round pick a few years back and DeRosa is pretty much doing what he has done the last few years, putting up a near .800 OPS. I wouldn't call these guys offensive miracles, I would call them professional hitters who are hitting well.

2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread
I still don't think the Cubs do much in the playoffs. Their middle relief blows. The Brewers, Phillies, Mets can all beat them in a series. But then that's if the Cubs aren't hot, if they are hot, they could waltz through like the '05 Sox.

Charles Haley
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) Gives a whole new meaning to Haley's Comet. When I read your name with this thread in my mind, I felt dirty.

Gio Gonzalez going to be called up
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) And he will probably shut us down in a week or so. Ah crap forget that he could start against us. Haha, I can so see him destroying us. How funny, actually probably not, to see him strikeout Swisher in a big situation during the game? Maybe Sweeney will get a couple RBIs in that game, too.

Richard optioned to Charlotte
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:29 PM) Adam Russel recalled from Charlotte, guess he's replacing Richard With Jose slated to come off the DL Saturday, this is probably just a five-day thing.

2008 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) It's just too bad that the Rangers broadcast of the game wasn't on so I could hear Lewin going nuts. And also some possible good news, as Ortiz has wrist issues that possibly could make him miss this wknd's series. He's in the lineup tonight for the Sawks. If he had missed the Sox series, it would have been so weird, but very good, to play the Red Sox and them not have a 3-4 of Manny and Ortiz.

Gio Gonzalez going to be called up
Should be real interesting how he pitches considering the difference of opinions by Sox fans on him... I think he will post an ERA between 4.50-5.00 with solid peripherals. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate...;entry_id=28819

Ozzie Suspended 2 games and no Sox players punished
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) Isn't he going to be sending in the calls and making the lineup anyway? He will also have a mullet and a fake beard and will be somewhere on the bench. I love Bobby Valentine for that moment. And I believe according to MLB rules, a suspended or ejected manager is not allowed to take part in the baseball game. So I guess technically he is not allowed to make a lineup or make calls from the dugout.

Ozzie Suspended 2 games and no Sox players punished
These two games could help get Joey Cora a managerial job. He has long been considered a top candidate and now he has a chance to impress with two games.

All-Time Greatest White Sox?
Frank and personally it isn't gonna be close since defense is underrated. Frank's offense trumps anyone on the list. And for the record, I, too, undervalue defense and voted for the Big Hurt. I would have gone with Appling second, then Fox, then Aparacio.

Take a chance on Scott Eyre?
Granted he may not be better than Boone, but he is a veteran with post-season experience. He almost signed with the Sox a couple years ago before going to the Cubs and has pitched solidly every year except this year recently. I am not saying he is a great option, but with Boone sucking at every single moment now, he has to be considered.

Richard optioned to Charlotte
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) There is zero doubt in my mind Whistler would have a hard time keeping his ERA under 8.00 I would agree. Whisler just doesn't have major league stuff (look at K numbers, he just doesn't miss bats) and that is a recipe for disaster. Poreda is the best bet for Sox minor leaguer performing well in the majors and that is a long shot right now too because he is still young and raw and never pitched above AA as well his lack of secondary pitches.
