College drinking
I am not sure what group I agree with here. I find that to engage in a lot of socialization in college, drinking is almost a must. However, that being said, I have never had a drink of alcohol in my life and I am sure I have missed out on a ton of the socialization in college. But, i honestly don't care too much about being that social, so it really never mattered to me. This is an interesting conversation.

2008 First Year Player Draft
QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...TS0602/80227004 i figure this has to affect his draft stock...well see when and how he comes back...but with a hand injury and potentially signing boras, it isnt out of question that he will be there at 8 for us And there is no question we won't draft him, even though he could be a top notch 1st baseman I think.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) Does anyone think/believe Pax is gonna let his testicals drop, and make a move at the deadline? No, just like he hasn't the past two years. And its sad b/c we could have had an all-star.

I am a middle man. Sit in the middle rows of all my classes, not too close to the teacher, but not too far, a perfect happy medium.

Dunigan got owned by NT's 6'5" Tim McCrary. He is good, but no way in hell is he a McDonald's All-American. Even if he went Illini, I would think this. Shumpert is more acceptable.

White Sox about to sign Bartolo Colon?
QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) Sounds to me like a low risk move for a guy who has ace stuff... when healthy. I know he is fat, injured, lazy, etc. but aren't we all. I think his ace stuff days are gone. But if healthy, he can be a solid #3 starter who can pitch his 4-seamer in the low 90's, his 2-seamer in the upper 80's and command the plate with a solid change-up. How this is a bad deal I don't know? Low risk and high reward. What not to like?

White Sox about to sign Bartolo Colon?
Something doesn't seem right. He reportedly did not want to sign with because he was not going to be given a spot in the rotation and had to earn it and he wanted a two-year deal guaranteed, which the Sox did not want to do. I don't think the Sox have changed, so BC must have. But I will wait for another source first, but impact did report the Dotel thing right? Don't you love online translators: "Later than ever, now will be the fruits. "

QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 09:18 AM) That's Kawann Short (KAY KAY). he is a 3 star football dee lineman going to Purdue. He was big time in the state title game last year along with E'twaun and Angel. Angel hates the post he plays a typical European big man game. He does have good range and handles the ball great for 6'11 but he falls in love with it too much for the high school level. Angel clearly plays up and down to his competion as well, New Treir was well coached and disiplined but wasn't all that athletic so Angel tends to cruise in those matchups unfortunatly. New Trier also had a tough game the night before against Evanston that was undoubtedly mentally and physically draining. If NT didn't plat its biggest rival the night before, I think they would have beaten EC.

Mizzou starts this week in Florida for a tourney. They are going to be real good this year. Top pick potential for '08 in Aaron Crow, '09 in Kyle Gibson and in '10 with Nick Tepesch. Mizzou has as good a pitching staff as anyone in the country.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 01:42 AM) It's not like fathom is alone in his assessment. At least 2 other posters who have seen Richmond play have said the exact same thing. Richmond talked about being one and done in college as a foregone conclusion in the Sun-Times last week, which didn't exactly make me think he doesn't have delusions of grandeur. You just gotta see what Richmond does in the summer circuits b/c that is where kids make their names and get their ratings. Apparently, when Richmond is surrounded by talent and playing against the best talent, he shines. So that is what I am happy to see.

PECOTA Win Projections For White Sox
I am sure this is based on Contreras, Danks and Floyd posting around 5.00 ERAs. So one guys steps up and we hit prolly 81 wins, two guys and around 85. I see their prediction being fairly accurate since we have two reliable starters and then three BIG question marks at the back of the rotation. I think we will end up exceeding their prediction because I believe one pitcher will step up. I think we are an 85 win ball club right now taking into account a pitcher stepping up. I love the pen, and the offense, but don't like the rotation. We are a solid team, but nothing great until we see what Count, Danks and Floyd can do.

This drives me nuts about my journalism school...
QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) you're in 4450 already? the hours don't drive me nuts. I got by with the editors loving me, I didn't have to be there that often. It's more that we produce an awful paper. yeah, I entered my sequence a semester early. I have a grading conference this weekend, so it will interesting to see where I lie.

This drives me nuts about my journalism school...
I am currently in the class, and so far while still annoying at times, I have not driven myself crazy and am not there 24/7. So far, it has not been too bad, maybe partially because I have a sports beat, but so far not too bad.

Official 2007-08 College Basketball Thread
Really make no sense to me why such a top-class program would hire such a sleeze bag? Say what you will about Mike Davis and not being a great coach, he was clean, at least. So many good coaches out there and IU picked the worst possible one. Now, he is gonna leave their program in shambles when they possibly get post-season sanctions, losses of scholarships, Gordon will certainly go pro now. IU did this to themselves unfortunately.

Who is dieting?
I really respect all of you who are doing this. I think it a great way to lose weight having the support from everyone who is also trying to do it as well. Just a suggestion for the people who hate running, just listen to you IPod. All of you love music, so listen to it or a podcast for 20 minutes while you jog. Anyways, good luck to you all and even if you don't hit your goals, at least you have lost some weight and made progress. This things don't happen overnight, so don't get frustrated.

Fields thought about walking away
I think Fields is just a quiet guy who has pretty strong morals. And sports clubhouses tend to filled with half-naked men who are swearing and b****ing about everything and anything. Maybe that's it. I cannot imagine the Sox's clubhouse is different from anyone else's, maybe the Yankees. I just don't think Fields was ready for that kind of stuff, but that seems odd because he played college football and I am sure OSU's locker room had similar stuff if not worse.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) Rumor on CaneSport and Warchant is he's going to Miami. Who knows, but I hope he goes to UofI. I love recruiting. I feel good bout Julio again...I don't care if he looks like a Bama lock, we'll find out in 2 days. Until then I'll keep my hopes up and be crushed on NSD. Harper is going to everywhere according to those respective teams' boards. It will be interesting to see where he chooses, but as an Illinois fan, I like the Zooker in the underdog role, but I don't think Harper even knows where he wants to go yet.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) When I posted it Kansas was getting every call. It's been closer since. Kansas fans talking Orange Bowl s*** in the stands. One sign said: "Orange you glad you are a Tiger fan?" with a picture of an orange. The answer? Hell yes, we beat Kansas, had a better season, and won the North. End of story. Please continue talking s*** with your inferior football team while your basketball team is whipping ass on the court. Idiots. Yeah, I really don't get the Kansas' football cheap shots at Missouri. Who won the division? Who won when the teams played on a neutral field? Who was rated higher in the BCS? Simply put, MU > KU in football and there really should not be a question about it. KU fans can talk all they want in basketball because they beat MU tons, but MU football is better.

Illinois football lands two guys for '09. Lendell Buckner (DT) and Leon Hill (OT)) of Leo High School. Both are 4* caliber players and Hill already rates as the 45th best player in the country. Add these guys with Melvin Fellows whom was rated as the top player in Ohio by some dude with a website--FWIW--and the '09 class is shaping up to join the '09 bball class as top ten in the country. I think this is only the beginning and would not be surprised to see 3-4 5-stars and 10-12 4-star prospects in Illinois' class. The 5-stars will be Drummond, Je'ron Stokes and hopefully someone else and the four-stars will be the aforementioned three as well as other top Illinois talent, Pennsylvania talent, Ohio talent and Florida talent. A big key tho, is a QB in this class. We need a top guy, not that I don't trust Charest, but to keep up with the OSU and Michigans in the big ten and the rest of the top programs in the country, you need a 4-star Qb or better every year.

Clips of Carlos Quentin...
Quentin has got the potential to be a all-star player, not this year, but definitely in the future. He has a great bat and solid eye at the plate. I wouldn't be surprised to see him put up a .285, 25, 90 RBI season this year. He just needs a solid Spring Training to get his confidence up and I think he will bust out. He has got the goods. IMO, Owens makes a perfect fourth outfielder because of his speed and he can play anywhere in the outfield. He will still get some ABs against tough righties and still as bench player rack up 25 SBs.

As of today, do you think the White Sox are legitimate AL contenders
If KW can get two vets for the rotation to compete with the young guys and Contreras (because based on last season, there is now way to give him a spot yet,) I will be much happier. Maybe its Kris Benson or someone else, but we need competition for the last three rotation spots. However, I think the backend of the rotation will be the downfall in this team and I am not confident at all that Danks, Floyd or Contreras will post better than 5.00 ERAs. I think as built right now we are an 85 win ballclub at best. But hey, we will have a chance at beating the Twins 4-5 times more this year, so that could help.

Top 100 Prospect List
QUOTE(scenario @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) So... the Sox would have had 2 on the list if we hadn't traded away DLS. Compare that to the rest of the teams in our division: The Twins would have only had 1 on the list (but picked up 2 in the Santana trade) The Indians only have 2 The Tigers have 1. (would have had 2 if they hadn't traded away Maybin) The Royals have 1. Hard to make an argument that there's a huge difference in top minor league talent between these teams, isn't it? On the other hand, Tampa has NINE players on the list, including 4 pitchers (2 of those pitchers are in the top 20). That's fairly impressive. But unfortunately, by the time all that talent finally arrives at in the majors and they are becoming solid to all-star players (after two yearish in the majors,) their current starts will be gone as FA. Sad cycle, because they do produce some talented baseball players.
