Math Question...Poker Related
We took our AP Calc test last wednesday, so for the rest of the year we are making a movie on a math topic. Our topic is combinations and we are using poker to explain it. My question is about odds ( and there are a few) Let's say Chris has an Ace, a King, a Queen, a 3 and a 4 (A,K,Q,4,3) What are his odds of picking up the straight? Is it 4/47 * 4/46, or 4/47 * 4*47? Let's say Tom has two fives , a 6, a 7, and an 8 (5,5,6,7,8) What are his odds of picking up the three of a kind? Is it 2/47 + 2/47 + 2/47? Much help appreciated.

Gamethread 5-2-05 vs. Cleveland Injuns
Glad to see Dye back. Everytime one of our speedsters gets on we should steal. Sabathia is slow to home and like to pound the bottom of the strike zone, and Victor is horrible at throwing runners out.

Actually, lefties (.265 .326 .411 .737) hit better of Sabathia than righties (.248 .313 .391 .704). I too am surprised not to see Gload get some ABs.

Mirabelli heading back to Boston?
Not sure if true, but interesting. Bard has been pretty bad catching Wakefield.

Recruiting Thread
QUOTE(Fotop @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) Mike Ragone, 5 star Tight End from New Jersey, is expected to commit to ND to play football tomorrow morning at 9:30am. Big kid, 6-5; 230...supposedly runs a 4.45. Recently tore an ACL, but should be ready for his senior season, hopefully he doesnt lose much speed. Considered to be the top tight end in the class of '07. And the hits just keep on coming for ND, #1 QB and now the #1 TE. It's good to see Weis building up momentum in the recruiting department before the season. Also, they have a real good chance to add Arrelious Benn who is one of the top two WRs for the 07 class. Illinois in the mix as well. Even though I am an ILL fan, ND >>>>> ILL.

White Sox v. LAA Angels 4/30 2:35 CSN
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) Pods, LF Cintron, 2B Thome, DH PK, 1B Dye, RF Crede, 3B Mack, CF Uribe, SS Widger, C Garland, SP Widger is gonna go go 0-4 today. AJ should be catching Jon, especially with Santana pitching who is tough on righties.

White Sox v. LAA Angels 4/30 2:35 CSN
I might sit Paulie for versus Santana and give Gload a start because he is lefty. Lefties hit Santana much better. My line-up today would be: Pods LF Iguchi 2B Thome DH Dye RF Pierzynski C Crede 3B Gload 1B Mackowiak CF Cinton SS It looks like the Sunday line-up, but lefties hit nearly twofold better against Santana than righties.

Fields hasn't played in a couple days, hopefully nothing is wrong, but a sore thumb or something minor like that. Good to see Sweeney and Rogo heating up.

Come on Tadahito, I guess Thome can't hit the three run shot now, but two runs is still good.
