2012-2013 NFL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) I believe the entire NFL has a phone number they can call 24-7, that will pick them up and drive them if they are too drunk, no questions asked. Apparently most players aren't aware of it. It's called a taxi. And if they aren't aware of that, then they really are stupid.

Hawkins: 3-3 and an OF assist. Any reason Barnum has been out a couple games?

6/24 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 01:14 AM) But has he got back that explosive stuff he had before the injuries, like when he really looked like a very solid prospect maybe 3 years ago? By his IP/H ratio, he's still not missing enough bats. You'd like to see any reliever in the +10 or more category on that one, especially as the season's nearing the halfway point. I mistyped. It was actually 14 hits not 24. I think the stuff is back.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 09:27 PM) Leyson Septimo is very interesting to me. Always put up big K numbers, but had huge control issues. Joined Sox system at B-Ham last year, and but his walk rate by about 30% in the same league... now this year even lower, and lower still in his last 10 games but still striking out a fair amount. Plus hitters are showing only .135 BAA. Versus lefties its .095, a ridiculous 6.3 GO/AO, and he's only walked 2 vs striking out 16 against 42 batters. Me thinks he could be the next LOOGY experiment in Chicago. We should have some more solid bullpen guys coming up over the next couple years. Omogrosso has some sick splits after a terrible April. Since then, he has 23.2 innings pitched, 14 hits allowed and a K/BB ratio of 28/1. Yes.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) I could see DJohnson being the 25th man on a playoff roster for his LH power only, but with the Phillies semi-tanking, here's a prediction that we reacquire Thome in September for one last shot at a ring. For what purpose exactly? We already have a left-handed power hitting DH...He would be superfluous.

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
KW: "He hasn't felt this good physically in a long time." Biggest cliche in the book.

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) de aza beckham Dunn konerko AJ rios Youk tank ramirez. We somehow went from a team chalk full of easy outs a few months ago to a team that hardly has one now. Amazing what happens when guys play to their potential Have you watched recently? We are not exactly lighting the world on fire offensively.

Sox. Brewers. Gamethread. part 2
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) Zach Stewart not starting for Charlotte anymore. Maybe he's going to Boston. greg might be giddy. Glad I wont have to see his straight 90 MPH fastball ever again.

Sox. Brewers. Gamethread. part 2
Sox have three very good lefties for the rotation for the next five years. That's crazy to think about with how rare quality left-handed starters are. Granted, Quintana still is young, but very promising.

Sox. Brewers. Gamethread. part 2
QUOTE (Wedge @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) What's the worst case scenario? Quintana for Youk? Come on. Sox aren't trading a 23-year-old lefty who is pitching amazing and cost-controlled for years for some rental player with injury issues.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) Ump crew games 1 and 3 not so good. If it's consistent both ways, then I have no problem with it. HP ump has had a wide zone all day, so be it.

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
QUOTE (Real @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 07:03 AM) ugh, pointless trade Depends what we give up. If it's nothing major, can't hurt. If it's something important, then yes. Youk is better than what we have, but is clearly over the hill and comes with injury issues. I honestly think the Sox should trade Peavy for a top SP prospect and use his money to sign Greinke in the off-season. A White Flag trade is probably the best move for this team in the future.

2012-2013 Official NHL thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) I'd give my left nut for Bobby Ryan. He's obviously a really good player, but offense is not this team's problem. I suppose a Hammer + young prospect (Beach) might be a good starting point, but he doesn't solve this team's main issues in preventing goals.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 04:54 AM) No one notice Rienzo's awesome start tonight in B'Ham? 8 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. Mirroring Chris Sale's effort tonight. He is probably the second-best pitching prospect in our system after Castro.

Barnum-Hawkins are gonna be quite fun to follow over the next few years. DiMichele starting off strong, too, but as a college guy, that should be expected. Hawkins also had an OF assist.

2012 White Sox draft picks
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 02:00 AM) If you're a pro prospect you'd make all-conference in the Chicago area. I can promise that. Yeah. Those All-Conference teams are usually based on numbers and reputation. He obviously didn't have either, which should say something. He must have been drafted as a favor to his dad. The Sox do that all the time with no intent on actually signing the player.

6/12 Games
Johnson seems like a clone of Danny Wright. Great size and stuff, but absolutely no control. Both ironically drafted in the second round of the MLB Draft from very good college baseball schools.

Something has to be done to improve the rotation
It's easy. Stewart goes to AAA. And Humber becomes the long man. We ride Quintana as a starter until it looks like he can't perform up to Major League-caliber. Then, re-explore our options after that. Sale-Peavy-Danks-Floyd-Quintana when Danks comes back.

Youkilis, $5.6 million traded to White Sox
I wouldn't mind giving Floyd up for Youk. I think Quintana can be a solid backend rotation starter for us. But you know what Gavin is. He is a solid big leaguer starter in the AL. Never gonna be a stud, but definitely solid as a mid-rotation guy. My biggest problem with Gavin (and I do not have any stats to back this up, this is purely observational), but in big starts, he doesn't pitch well. When the pressure is on, I feel like Gavin shrivels up and wets the bed.

2012 MLB draft talk
I think you go with the best college player available every time in the draft. Much less likely to bust and just as likely to develop into a star. I honestly would never take a high school player in the first round unless you are talking about a Bryce Harper-type. They are just too risky. You have no idea how they will handle the pressure. Their stats are basically meaningless. At least with college players, you have three years of data against better competition, you have a better sense of how they handle pressure, they are more educated, more mature, etc.

Here's a radical idea
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) There was that one game Jermaine Dye played SS, so like on the off chance that Alexei never gets going, we have that, so That was only for like an inning. It was because Crede was at shortstop to start the game then got ejected in the 9th. The Widge started at third that game.

2012 Minor League Catch All thread
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 08:35 AM) If Sox don't bring him up this year, he will have to be added to the 40 man roster, or he will be gone. Some team will pick him up. I think it's pretty much a guarantee he will be the 4th OF next year. Can play all OFs spots well. Good speed. No way Fuku is brought back.

5/31 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 12:13 AM) But couldn't the same arguments be applied to Quintana, Axelrod and Doyle? I get the K/9 and BB/9 thing, and not every young pitcher without stuff matures into the next Mark Buehrle, but at the very least, he should be able to turn into a serviceable reliever. Another example would be Zach Stewart. Even though his fastball's "only" by 88-91 for most of this season, it's the movement and location which has allowed him to be relatively successfuly, certainly more successful than 2011 when he more consistently threw 90-93. Definitely to Doyle and Axelrod. They have the same projections as Hernandez. Bullpen fodder, maybe a fifth starter. I don't think many people have high hopes for those two. Only so many guys can get by in the Majors without above-average stuff and stick in the rotation. Quintana, however, has continuously missed bats as a pro and has had very good K numbers including this year. Then, obviously, he continued to pitch well in the Majors. He looks like a possible mid-rotation starter. I am not saying there is anything wrong with having a potential serviceable reliever in your system like Hernandez, but let's now view his ERA as a sign that he is becoming a legit prospect is my only point.

5/31 Games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) Mitchell with another "boom or bust" game. 0 for 3 with 3 k's. Pedro Hernandez didn't give up a single run in his outing. ERA of 2.43 on the season. His ERA is very deceiving. With only 27 Ks in 48 innings, it says something about his stuff. While he must be doing something right with an ERA that low and a good amount of innings, his stuff suggests nothing more than backend rotation fodder or a bullpen arm. Granted, I think that's what many expected from him, I am tempering my enthusiasm about his 2012 year.
