White Sox vs Cubs First Pitch 3:10 CT
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) How about Sale in the 9th? FWIW, for those who don't get the gameon FOX, be thankful. Eric Karros is brutal. He kept saying Humber was unimpressive all game, and then he was slurping him in the 7th. Ugh. Attaboy Matt!! I go with Crain since you got all righties except Pena.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:29 PM) Thornton in. Does Crain get the 9th? Yeah, Ozzie said so apparently during his pre-game conversation with the media.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) I'm not convinced of this year. He'd have to perform well into next season at a similar level for me to believe he's this good. Well I don't think he is this good, either. He is pitching as a top six or seven pitcher in the AL right now, which I don't think he is. His advanced stats say he is due for some regression. But I truly believe he is 12-15 game winner with a 3.75-4.00 ERA. And that is fine with me.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) Luke Hochaver was the #1 pick and he sucks. Like I said, if you believe in pitcher peripherals, which I obviously do, then you can see Humber is not a true sub-.3.00 ERA, sub-1.00 WHIP caliber of pitcher. And the eye test works as well. It's not all about stats. But Humber is gettin' it done, be it luck or whatever. That's all that matters. For now, anyway. I think it's clear Humber has turned a corner. Now, I don't think he will be a sub-3.00 ERA guy, but he should be mid-rotation type for this team for the foreseeable future.

No Santos today, too. Gonna be a tough remaining nine outs.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:04 PM) His numbers belie his true talent level, IMO. But I'll take it for as long as he's performing. You can make the argument the other way though for most his career. I mean, he was the No. 3 overall pick for a reason.

Your award winners at the halfway point.
There is no doubt in my mind that A-Gon would win the MVP if the season ended now. 73 RBI is terrific.

Another International Signing Day and the Sox are making no additions. Great.

7/1 Games
Now that DJ LaMathiue (spelling is way off, I know) doesn't have enough at-bats to qualify for the batting title, Kuhn leads that race by .042. Quite impressive.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 12:16 AM) You want a guy that will surprise you if you look at the numbers? Dylan Axelrod. He has flat out dominated since joining the system and starting. Actually seems very similar to Doyle. Both induce lots of groundballs and don't walk people. I wonder if Axelrod would be the first guy to get a spot start. Seems a better bet than Harrell though they are kinda similar.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 10:18 PM) If this Carcillo signing means anything, it means nobody will ever f*** with the 'Hawks again. It's for 1 year, it's for very little money, and he's going to make sure (along with Mayers, Scott, and O'Donnell) that Raffi Torres, or anyone, never f***s with Seabrook, or any Hawk, again. What would it take to get Stephen Weiss from Florida as their 2nd or 3rd C? I personally think the Hawks are content to go with Toews, Sharp, Bolland and Mayers/Kruger as their four centers. Carcillo hopefully will just play in games against physical teams. He certainly is not good enough to play every game, but could be useful against the Vancouvers of the NHL.

7/1 Games
Kevan Smith: 2-3, 2B, HR, 3 RBI. Apparently pulled though, any idea why? I just realized Terry Doyle's name sounds identical to Bob Ueker's character (Harry Doyle) in Major League. Really just a random observation. I think Terry is in the wrong system though. Seems like the prototypical Twins-system pitcher. Won't blow you away with stuff, but won't walk people and just gets the job done. He's having a great year and hasn't posted an ERA above 3.00 in any year in the minors. That's insane. He probably deserves more hype. Anyone (Mr. Doyle?) have a scouting report?

Three righties up so that takes Thornton out. If Santos feels good, he is the right call. Crain, I don't like going two innings.

We look like this so far: Kane-Toews-Smith Brunette-Sharp-Hossa Bickell-Bolland-FA (Hopefully Frolik) Morin-Kruger-Stalberg(if re-signed)-Myers-Maclean-Olesz-Beach Keith-Seabrook Hammer-Montador Leddy-O'Donnell Crawford Salak Looks like a lot of competition for the fourth line. Wonder what other moves Stan has up his sleeve? Hopefully re-sign Frolik soon.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) Duncan Keith's cap hit is just $38,462 more than James Wisniewski's. Wis has come into his own as a solid 2nd line defender, but now is being paid like a No. 1 defender. Hilarious.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) Morin played a little for the Hawks last year. As long as he is healthy he will have a good chance to make the team. Beach would be a real nice 4th liner and maybe better, but he needs to get his head out of his ass first. Only needs to take it out part way. That helps make him the agitator he is. Take his head out enough to be a good teammate, but not far enough to lose his edge.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 09:00 AM) The thing is that Tampa doesn't have nearly the cash base that the Hawks have. There is a chance at outspending them. That is true, but I don't think the Hawks can add another max player and still have some semblance of depth.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) The only question is whether the Hawks can figure out a way to structure the deal so that Tampa can't keep him. I don't even want to get my hopes up about that. And in the NHL, it's really hard to structure deals like that (actually impossible). In the NFL, you can do poison pills, unbalanced structuring of the deal, but in the NHL it's straight average value over the life of the contract for the cap hit. Stamkos is incredible, but Tampa has tons of cap room. He ain't going anywhere.
