White Sox vs Cubs First Pitch 1:20 CT
Gavin just doesn't have the mentality to ever be a top-of-the-rotation starter.

Typical Gavin pissing down his leg in high-pressure games.

AJ blocks the plate with the best of them.

Mr. Clutch now at-bat, keep it going JP.

I have to imagine Gavin (like most pitchers) were good hitters growing up and in high school, so why when they bat even for just a sac bunt do they look so awkward?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) Great stop by Pena, but horrible throw. It's almost like what he did AFTER the grab was an error. That's an incredibly hard throw from that angle after expending all your energy to dive, especially since he has to hit a moving target.

I don't recall this from yesterday, but did Dunn have to make any plays minus that one single hit to him yesterday in RF?

Somehow I think Teahen will be the big hitter from today's game.

Does Rios ever take the first pitch?

QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) I don't follow prospects at all, but I thought Viciedo's big liability was defense...was I incorrect? As a 3rd baseman it was. But in the outfield, his range is average, but his arm is plus. Apparently, making big strides in the D department.

Indians/Tigers are both losing today, too...

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) Dunn is now 2 for his last 30 with 19 strikeouts. It's time to do SOMETHING. Bench him, make up an injury, anything. Or continue to bat him third against righties...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) It's another Sunday lineup. It would be nice if Teahen hit today since his defense isn't close to Morel. And I actually like Teahen, but whenever Morel plays well, he gets benched. Then loses momentum and struggles again.

QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) What positions can Viciedo play competently? Third and left? Anyone think it's a bad idea to bring him up and have him DH? He would play RF and DH. When in RF, Q would shift to LF. But I would love for him to just DH for two weeks while Dunn drinks Kaluha on his farm.

WTF? I just realized Teahen was playing. Morel was 2-4 Friday, 1-3 (w/ a BB) yesterday. And has played stellar D, per usual.

Okay I am firmly on the Dunn to the DL via phantom injury for Dayan. Juan at least is coming around, Dunn is not. He needs like two weeks to just get away and relax.

1-2-3 inning for probably the worst ML starting pitcher.

2011 Minor League Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) We just saw four or five guys come in from the DSL into Rookie ball. Just because they came to America from the DSL doesn't mean they have superb talent. There is a reason we haven't produced a homegrown Latin American player (minus Cubans) since Magglio (or maybe it's CLee).

Not a ton of at-bats for our guys, but Paulie has hit him hard in 18 PAs. With the way Gavin pitches with shoddy defense and the way Dunn is swinging, you gotta play Paulie this afternoon. Don't think the Dunn/Konerko swap will help today. BTW, I always say "not a ton of ABs for our guys..." when really it is more accurate to say "not a ton of PAs for our guys..." Just realized that. Yeah, random.

Who'd have thought this in April?
10 starters usually go to the All-Star game according to a Trib article I read: Automatics Weaver (Top three pitcher in the AL this year) Beckett (Ditto) Verlander (Ditto) Sabathia (more on reputation than pure numbers this year, but still pitching well) Haren (great year + name) Shields (Six CGs, enough said) So there are six guys that are for sure going to go. That leaves four guys to be selected. Last Options Humber Gonzalez Pineda Ogando Tomlin Price Lester Felix Hernandez I am not going to put their statistics on there, but Humber is as good as any. Felix probably gets in on name, ditto for Lester and Price. So, IMO, Humber has to beat out Gio and Pineda. Ogando has dropped off a bit and Tomlin has a 3.86 ERA. So we can hope...
