fire walker
Walker has been the Sox hitting coach since 2003, and since then, here are the White Sox rankings in runs scored in the AL: 2003: 791 runs (8th in the AL) 2004: 865 (3rd in the AL) 2005: 741 (9th in the AL) 2006: 868 (4rd in the AL) 2007: 693 (14th and dead last in the AL) 2008: 811 (5th in the AL) 2009: 724 (12th in the AL) 2010: 752 (7th in the AL) 2011: 389 (10th in the AL, on pace for 650 runs) It started out well, but has been bad from 2007 on (with 2008 a good year).

Sox can still win AL Central
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) Jim Thome was an absolute monster in 2006. When he hit that HR in the first game of the year, I honestly thought we would never lose a game. In fact, Thome's April that year was historic. He was on pace for some incredibly numbers.

Sox can still win AL Central
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) 15 consecutive weeks of god awful hitting lead me to believe that he is not going to hit any time soon. I don't care what he did in 2009. I do not believe he will hit in a White Sox uniform anywhere close to expectations. In fact, I am pretty sure we will never see a 40 HR/100 RBI season from him in a Sox uniform.

2011 White Sox losing with pitching and defense
We are a middle-of-the-road defensive team. What we make up for in not making errors, we lose by virtue of our bad outfield range and horrible caught stealing percentages.

Sox can still win AL Central
Yeah we can, but yeah we won't.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:50 PM) I see our offense has shown up once again. Too bad there's no room for a hot hitting Viciedo in this fantastic offense. Duh, where would he play?

So we keep Peavy in? WHY? I can understand somewhat with the bases loaded, but once he gives up that hit, yank him Oz.

FutureSox Mid-Season Top 25 Prospects List Posted
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) I would love to see Phegley, Blanke, Gonzalez or the kid from Pitt (Smith?) at least give us one decent catcher out of the group. I don't see many other position players, although I try to remain optimistic by remembering that Morel, ARam and Beckham are all young. We desperately need one young outfielder to come on. We had Hudson and Gio for the rotation. But Kenny had a better idea. Phegly will never be more than organization depth, IMO. Gonzalez has really struggled to adjust. Blanke hasn't been able to produce against stiffer competition. And Smith, despite my adoration for him, is still only in Rookie Ball. None of our catchers right now profile to be anything more than backups. Now that could change, but right now, that's what it looks like.

Does anyone else think that Abby Wambach and Patrick Kane share a striking resemblance, especially considering the different genders?

7/19 games
Smith needs to be pushed to A-Ball. He is way too good for Rookie Ball. Way too good. EDIT: Smith goes deep AGAIN.

2011 Minor League Catch-All Thread
http://www.cbs42.com/sports/story/100-MPH-...VCYZLKk1mw.cspx Follow link to a cool video about the Barons' 100 MPH club. **Also, that was some of the worst journalism ever. There was nary a mention of who the pitchers were and the story was so bland.

Sox are looking for a righty reliever?
Addison Reed looks fantastic and has been awesome so far, but I really don't want him in the Big Leagues. Going from Low-A to the Majors is a lot to ask of a 22-year-old, drafted one year ago. If they bring him up, there is a good chance he struggles and completely loses all the momentum he had. I would rather go after a veteran so-so right-handed reliever to supplement the bullpen than ask that of a youngster. Heck, I think our pen is fine as is. On a side note about Reed, his FIP numbers are insane. 0.83, 1.54, 1.11 in Low-A, High-A and AA, respectively compared with his ERAs of 1.13, 1.59, 0.96.

2011 Minor League Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 03:15 AM) Well let's wait for him to start drawing some walks and/or hitting for power before we get too carried away. A .400+ BABIP can only carry you for so long. Well you can't hit .400 basically without an BABIP that high.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) Please let the Hall of Fame Game get pushed back a week so I don't have to work a NASCAR race! I seriously hate the HOF game idea this year. I really hope the Bears let all third and fourth stringers play and don't even let our game-active 53 out there. They will only get hurt.

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) So who goes to AAA? Bruney's pitched well enough that someone ought to grab him as a back of the bullpen reliever. Bruney gives up a lot of base runners, but I still feel like he gets out of jams way better than Pena. Just DFA his ass, he is worthless.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) Kyle Davies should be shelled. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) Kyle Davies may be the worst SP in the history of baseball. Royals are 2-9 in his starts. MUST. WIN. I think we said all these things before the last KC series. I am not holding out hope for a shelling. We kill the best pitcher in baseball a few days ago, but I am sure we will struggle against this scrub.

7/18 Games
Man, early game. I don't understand why the Sox move so slowly with these older guys like Shoemaker. I can understand with young guys taking it slow, but with a 24-year-old in Low-A? Come on. He needs to move to High-A.

WTF are we waiting for ? Call up Viciedo !
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Fixed your comp. I definitely agree he is closer to Lee than Frank. Frank had one of the best eyes in all of baseball during his career. Viciedo will never be able to walk 100+ times in a year.

FutureSox Mid-Season Top 25 Prospects List Posted
I hate that Reed is ranked second. That is not insulting the list but rather how thin the system is. I can't really argue with the list at all except maybe Escobar. I really can't seem him hitting enough to be a starting MLB player.
