  1. AJ just told CSN's Chuck Garfien that Peavy and him were arguing over who was better Chuck or Sara Kustok. There issue resolved.
  2. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:15 PM) I thought he asked about next year when he is a FA. Oh, I thought it was via a trade this year. Next year, there is clearly no room. I would much rather have Viciedo than Fukudome.
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:14 PM) I missed it with Santos, but that's inexcusable as well if that's what happened. It doesn't matter how much anyone is getting paid here. That's bulls*** from a teammate. I'd love to hear your reaction if he did it to, say, Buehrle, or whoever you don't hate. Because who he did it to does not matter, it's the principle of his actions. Yeah, that's like rule No.1 in sports, you don't show up a teammate. I don't care how bad Peavy is pitching, how worthless he is making his contract, etc., you just don't show up a teammate.
  4. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:11 PM) I thought you wanted Viciedo in the OF? Or would Quentin be gone in this scenario? Of course I want Viciedo, but I responding to just if it would like Fuku as a leadoff hitter on this ballclub. It's a non-issue cuz we aren't going to trade for him.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) But that's not playing everyday. He hasn't proven he can play 150+ games in the weak NL, how would he magically be better with us? You sit him against tough lefties for Lillibridge. He still is a good ball player.
  6. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:02 PM) Brian, you're wrong on this one, AJ's actions are indefensible. I rip Peavy as much as the next guy, but this isn't about how he was performing, or AJ backers vs Peavy backers based on anything in the past. Here's what happened, I posted this in the game thread: When Peavy gives up that last hit, as Soriano scores you can briefly see AJ give the "get him out of here" heave-ho sign with his right arm and his right pointer finger extended. Then as he walks towards the mound, he's staring into the dugout just waiting, begging for the change. He basically showed Peavy up, and Peavy saw it. It started before they were both on the mound and Ozzie made the change. Can't really fault Peavy, that's not a good move by a catcher regardless of whether he should be taken out, you just don't do that. Didn't catch the pre-tunnel stuff. That's pretty bad on AJ's part.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) The problem is that he's never finished the season with a .400 OBP before. True, but his OPS is right at his norm for the past two years, .800. That is still oodles better than Pierre.
  8. QUOTE (almagest @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) He fits in here fine. I'll take that .400 OBP any day of the week.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:02 PM) Who gets more All-Stars: Cubs (Castro, Marshall) or Sox (Santos, Konerko)? Sox will definitely tie Cubs at worst. Each gets one, but only Sox can get multiple IMO. Humber, Q (if he gets real hot again) could get in but I think Santos' poor June pitched him out of consideration.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) So back to my original question, if the Sox are still going for it, would you like him as the lead-off hitter for the Sox? I'd guess that's a yes..? Yes, absolutely. But we can't afford his contract. He is definitely a solid player, but we can't pay $6 million for an outfielder when presumably he would be replacing an already pricey OF in Pierre.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) Who is paying Fukudome that much as a free agent this year? He actually will be a very good steal for someone this off-season. After his first year, he has been a solid player for the Cubs each year. He was grossly overpaid for that .800 OPS, but he brings that OPS with very solid defense and that has value in MLB.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) So what you are saying is we should have cut Paul Konerko in 2003. I never advocated for cutting Dunn. In fact, if you read above, I said the Sox should play Dunn. So if I want to pinch hit for a high-priced player, implicitly, I am saying that said player should be cut?
  13. I re-watched the tunnel incident a couple times and didn't see a big push or anything. It looked like Jake was a little peeved (no not peavyed) and want to talk with AJ away from the camera. IMO, he more or less just directed him toward the clubhouse; a little push but not a real forceful one or anything. Personally, I think it's really going to be a non-issue. AJ and Jake won't say what happened 2nite, say it was a nothing issue and that they both moved on. I don't even think it's close to the Zambrano stuff we've seen. Smart move by Peavy to take it into the clubhouse. Obviously only my opinion.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Because you have no response. You probably didnt even take the 5 seconds it takes to look up what the guy does in the offseason, which is probably more than 99 percent of the people on this board. But instead its "he sits around and eats cinnabons." I know of several pitchers that dont pick up a ball during the offseason, and some start throwing just a few weeks before ST. Each player is different and its clear with his ridiculously consistent performance over his career that his offseason routine has been good for him. I forgot, you are smarter than everyone else. My bad.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) So you dont know? I figured since you thought it was ludicrous that you were an offseason training expert. I guess all his offseasons in past years were flukes. Please. I can't even summon the words to respond to your post.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) How many players dont do baseball related activities in the offseason? 1?
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) Maybe he needs to get a physical trainer for once in his life. Dude is getting paid like a king and eats cinnabons every day in the off-season. That's very true too. The whole not swinging a bat thing in the off-season is ludicrous.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Any chance this bum retires out of shame? He apparently isn't even answering his phone right now, according to Gonzo. Maybe we can DL him for mental issues because (in all seriousness), I think he is lost mentally. He might seriously have some sort of depression thing going on with how bad he has been.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) Cmon. I despise Adam Dunn's hitting ability, but the guy is in a multi year contract and his name is Adam Dunn. Unless you cut him, you play him and you don't pinch hit for Adam Dunn. Cmon, you disagree with that?? You are paying him so much f***ing money. He hits until he's cut or hopefully traded. If you are the manager you don't pinch hit for Adam Dunn. You watch and sadly shake your head. I agree you have to play, and I am all for playing him, but you have to put the team first. And in that situation yesterday in a one-run game with Dunn hitting .021 against lefties, you pinch hit for him. Why is OK for Dunn to sit against lefties if they are starting, but it's not OK to pinch hit for him against a lefty during the game? In essence, it's the same thing. You are protecting him against a lefty and saying that someone else on the roster has a better shot for success against the pitcher than Dunn. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Just curious, do you think he's going to stay this way all season? Because I highly doubt it. I have no clue. I didn't think it could worse from where he was in May, but it has. History dictates that he should break out of this, but this isn't a one-month thing now, it's three months. So maybe it's time to throw history out the window and really look at what we have here in this instant.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) No, that wasnt the impression i was getting from him. He was talking about hearing rumors, and that he has calls out to people. My gut says he's in rehab. Yeah, Bernstein made it seem ominous when he said there were rumors. On the cap note, remember we lose the Stanley Cup Final bonuses, too, so that alone frees up $5 million. I really want to bring Sopel back. Shouldn't cost much and provides great depth, penalty killing and shot blocking.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) How many times has he been pinch hit for in his career since he's been productive? I'd venture to say, uh, never? But he's not productive...so that fact doesn't matter. We aren't talking about Adam Dunn from 2004 to 2010. We are talking about the 2011 Adam Dunn who has no confidence, a poor swing and is just an awful batter right now. The past is the past, what's important is now.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Other than Pierre, I don't mind this lineup at all I would much rather see Mark Teahen with his sub-.600 OPS in left than Pierre. Fielding and leading off even though Pierre has hit Davis well in his career.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) As far as Rosner, who cares? Like you said, they were goofing around and filling airtime. I heard it. I thought it was OK. And as far as the Dunn argument, uh, he's right. You don't pinch hit for Dunn ever. It's his opinion and it happens to be right. His Pierre discussion with Gonzales was great. He brought up all the Sox talk points and they both threw out the pros and cons. The bottom line is he's a good host and just because he doesn't agree with you guys on Pierre doesn't mean s***. I really truly don't think Rongey cares what you all think of him. He shouldn't. Fans are fanatics and lunatics and hear what they want to hear. Whether you guys want to believe it or not, Pierre's been hitting about .260 and a lot of guys on the team suck balls worse than Pierre. When Adam Dunn is batting .021 against lefties and a lefty comes into the ball game at a crucial time, you can most definitely pinch hit for him.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) Attendance has been s***ty in both parks as it is and this has been going on since 1997, I think it's losing a bit of its luster overall I don't think it's losing its luster so much as the teams just suck. If the teams are both good, the series becomes huge, simple as that. There is just way too much apathy from both fan bases to really build up hype and buy tickets.
  25. I actually would like to know Rongey's real opinion not just the one he has on the radio. He obviously can't bash the Sox on air otherwise he will get canned.
