  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) Maybe Juan should try to be the last guy to the ballpark. Being the first one isn't working out very well. I would rather him just not show up to the ballpark altogether.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) I dont how a pitcher getting lucky should impact their WAR. Seems like only their performance on the mound should count Exactly. WAR should be based on how you are actually are doing not what you should be doing.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) This has been an awful week of baseball watching for me. I have never been so happy to be going on vacation soon Ha. I just came back from one. It was glorious not to have to watch bad baseball. But sadly, I still incessantly check for scores.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) Even more ironic, 4/5 were AL Central players. All shortstops I believe, too.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) What do you mean? WAR is a counting stat, so since the $ is tied to the worth of 1 WAR, then wouldn't the $ be a counting stat as well? Nevermind, stupid moment.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) What's the lowest batting average (and slugging percentage or OPS) ever for a player with over 700 plate appearances in a season? And of course, Hudson has got 8 outs in a row with ease. 700 is a lot of PAs. Among batting average title qualifiers, Cesar Izturis at .545 (2010), Nick Punto at .562 (2007), Neifi Perez at .564 (2002), Ramon Santiago at .576 (2003) and Angel Berroa at .592 (2006). That's your top (last) five since 2000, all ironically from AL teams.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) We are paying him $8.35M, and he has been worth $7.7M less than half-way through the season. Again, I probably shouldn't say these things.... That is pro-rated though.
  8. I AM SO SICK OF JUAN PIERRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) Well, they are actually tied with a 1.7. But as MattZ said, WAR understands BABIP (At least I'm pretty sure). Humber has been good, but he has also been pretty lucky, and his peripherals don't scream "dominance". Humber's WHIP is 0.97. That is dominant. Jackson's is like 1.55, which sucks. WAR for pitchers seems to be quite flawed. How can one be more valuable to his team based on what he should have done rather than what he has done?!?! Not criticizing you, but the WAR stat as it seems to be using expected metrics.
  10. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) He probably handles it better than Pierre. We know he has a better arm!
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) No idea how Jackson handles the bat, but it's safe to assume that Alexei will be batting with 2 outs next inning. I seem to recall above-average as far as pitchers go.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) Jackson is so bad that he has the highest WAR of any starter on this staff. Whoops, wasn't supposed to say that. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) Any metric that has Jackson higher than Humber this year is bogus to me Yeah I noticed that today, too. Is WAR for pitchers based off xFIP?
  13. Someone really needs to invent an AL to NL ERA converter.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) Jackson will be moved to the bullpen next week is my guess. Guy is costing himself a lot of money Yet Boras will still get some team to hand over a significant amount of money for him.
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:05 PM) Lol, what? Not only is there 0% chance Kenny will get fired mid-season, but Ozzie is the problem, not Kenny. IMO, KW is the biggest problem not Ozzie. Ozzie is STILL a huge problem, but not as bad as KW.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) Those numbers are still controlled by the fact that 1/2 of the season was April. If he holds average Aj numbers for the next 4 months, then you won't have the small sample sizes to complain with. Or he'll revert back to his s***tiness from last year and most of this year.
  17. He still is not very good. Sub-.700 OPS on the season, can't throw a runner out if the bases were 180 feet apart and his OPS drops to .569 with runners in scoring position. He's been better recently, but overall is still an below-average Major League catcher. Sadly, Ramon has been abysmal this year, too. And Flowers is struggling in AAA.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) It seems like we haven't had anyone make the Hot Sheet this year, but finally Eduardo Escobar showed up this week. Problem is, it was in the "not hot" section. It's actually hilarious Viciedo hasn't been on there this year.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) Well you have said on multiple occassions that there is absolutely no one doing good in our minor leagues, to which I've responded "What about Viciedo? Reed? Petricka? Kuhn? Wilkins? and a couple others. Minus Viciedo, I think there is a huge difference between guys doing well and having legitimate prospects. Reed is still a bullpen arm, granted with great stuff, but if you are a reliever in the minor leagues, you still have to question his future. Kuhn is hitting out of his mind and profiles as a utility player. Perhaps he will surprise. Petricka is still a long ways away. Every year we have guys having great seasons in the minors, but that doesn't mean we should be really excited about them. Hell Leo Daigle had an OPS of nearly 1.000 one year for us.
  20. I just don't understand the logic of this organization when the damn GM comes out and says this dude is ready. Then bring him the f*** up and sit Juan Pierre.
  21. Just looked at Tank's stats after being out of town for a week. He has a plus 1.000 OPS the last two months. He has a higher OPS on the road (and Charlotte is a hitter's park). He also has 47 RBI in 63 games, which is about 120 RBI over a full season. What f***ing more does a guy have to do?
  22. Does that writer have any relation to a former Soxtalk poster?
  23. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) So in theory I want our highest OBP guy not named Konerko or TCQ batting leadoff, with our best fastball hitter (Bridge?) batting 2nd. That theory only really works if the high OBP guy leading off is fast.
  24. KW. He has final say on who is on the team and not. Ozzie only plays what he has. That's still not an excuse for him playing Juan everyday, but the onus is on KW make roster changes.
