  1. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) I always assume the Sox will take a college arm with their first pick. I don't think that's a bad thing either. Most people are complaining about draft spending, but we've all been really happy with the last three first rounders when the picks were made. Heck, two of those are in the Majors already. They are starting to deserve our faith a little bit. And Sale really though was a high-price guy if the spending is looked as broadly. Was his bonus exorbitant? No. But since they made him that deal to get him fast tracked to the Majors, it was more costly overall. So you're right they do deserve some more credit.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 08:23 AM) One of my favorite events of the year. Sucks we don't have a first round pick. So what's the scoop for what the Sox have planned at #47? Anything new? I'll be surfing the web all day for info. I think being so far down with the first pick, it's really a wait-and-see approach since they probably have no idea who will be left. My guess is a college starting pitcher. We have a complete dearth of near-ML-ready arms in the system, so that would be my top priority. Granted, if someone really good slipped, I would jump all over him regardless of position. Should be an interesting pick though. You would hope the Sox would take a better, higher priced player because of the extra cash we save from not having a round one pick.

    QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) On the season: 29 IP, 38 K, 28 BB. Hilarous. And nine hits, good for a .099 batting average against.

Shane Lindsay continues to have the most hilarious season line.
  5. Juan Pierre turning positives into negatives since birth.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) The issues that Dunn, Rios and Beckham have/had are pretty easy to see, so I'm sure Walker is doing his best to fix them. I'm sincere with that actually. Well he sure is acing that exam!
  7. Hey Adam, maybe you should swing a f***ing bat during the offseason you bum!
  8. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 10:31 PM) LOL, wouldn't that essentially be the Sox flushing $44M down the toilet? As bad as he has been that isn't going to happen. Maybe if we put him on waivers, an idiot GM will claim him!
  9. Win the series and it still looks good on paper. Should kick Penny's ass as he sucks, but he did one-hit us last time out. I expect Jake to be solid.
  10. And one more thought, if Rios were Lillibridge and Dunn were Teahan, both might have been released by now. Or at the very least sent to AAA.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) right now absolutely. Chicago has two of them with Soriano and Rios. While Soriano is obviously overpaid and sucks defensively, he at least has been above an .800 OPS all his years with the Cubs but one. Obviously that doesn't justify his long-term deal at an incredibly high amount, but he still has been a productive offensive player.
  12. I really want to go the Sox game and make a sign saying something to the effect of Dunn/Rios, are you eligible for returns? Or refunds? Something like that. You think those guys have hit rock bottom, but then they continue to plummet further down. We have $24.5 million tied to two guys whom any replacement player could outproduce. That's embarrassing.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 01:20 AM) How can this happen?? Is this deal like "If you haven't been picked in the first 10, then we are drafting you #11" type thing? Because that's dangerous for them if something like a Chris Sale type thing happens where a top 3-4 pick drops a bunch of spots, and they can't draft him because they already agreed on someone else. I guess the advantage is to try and get Chris Reed to sign for less, and get him in to the system immediately? My guess is because he is not expected to be in the top 10, so they are trying to talk numbers now.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) Seems like there could be storms all night. I wouldn't mind getting an inning in the books and then a 2 hour rain delay. Why would that be? haha. I agree, I'll don't mind our pen vs. theirs. No Verlander would be awesome.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) My prediction is we'll see a lot of high fastballs and a lot of swings and misses tonight by Dunn. Good news is I predict he'll hit a home run tomorrow. Only if he gets sent down to AAA
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) Drive for 5 ..............Hope we do not get Verlandered! I love you Soxfest. I hope no one else starts a thread all year.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) Yeah, but given how bad they both are (Pierre and Rios), I think we stick with Rios because we have a ton more invested in him than Rios. Yes, we could sit him here and there, because I agree with Hawk about playing the hot hand and not worrying about feelings, but we're not talking Barry Bonds playing for him here, we're talking about Juan Pierre. Yeah I agree. Rios' potential is so far superior to that of Pierre, if he gets going good, it's a huge boon to the team. And we are stuck with him for the next 18 years, we might want to try and not lose him forever. But like I said, Lilly is versatile enough to ply 5-6 days a week all over the place.
  18. 3 hits and 3 GG-caliber plays. Attaboy Brent.
  19. To me it's pretty simple. Dunn has been abysmal against lefties, so he deserves to sit on the bench against them right now. He should bat against righties exclusively until he starts hitting. Once (hopefully) he starts hitting, then you can play him against lefties. But he simply is too much a liability against lefties to start tonight regardless who the lefty is.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) He's been doing this for a year or two now, and what I like is that he's not picking one team or another and crying foul, he's calling out officials for being s***ty at what they do. Yeah I don't mind that, what I mind is that he has the chutzpah to claim Van Gundy is betting on the series because he has inside info from the league office on who will win.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I sense some anti-Jamie Moyer sentiment! Moyer did have two 20-win seasons during the 2000s, which is pretty darn impressive. That being said, he is that rare exception where his win totals belies his actual pitching prowess. I don't think he deserves a spot in the HOF. If it took Blyleven so damn long, Moyer should have no chance.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) I'm getting the gist of what you're saying there but its giving me a headache trying to read it. posting from work, I have to do it quickly, so I tend to not post with grammar in mind.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) Huh? Is this some sort of parody that has gone just over my head?
