CA may try to kill Electoral College
QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Are you saying that most people from Indiana do not want what the Republican candidates are offering? If so, then, stop voting so much for the Republicans. Then, the candidates will see that what they are offering is not fitting in with that state's concerns, and that they may need to change things. If they are voting Republican just out of the habit of voting Republican, then that is a problem with the voter. If they are voting Republican because of lack of other choices, then that is a problem with our 2-party system and not the Electoral College. My point is what's the incentive for a democrat to vote in a state such as Indiana? I don't really get into these kinds of discussions; so there could very well be something that I'm not seeing here.

CA may try to kill Electoral College
QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) I disagree. I think that the less populous states won the presidency for Bush these past 2 terms. If you look at who voted for Gore and Kerry, I believe that it was incredibly bent towards the populous areas. Just because they weren't visited does not mean that their voice came through loud and clear. He is right though. Indiana's a great example of what Rex was talking about. This state is forever red, hence republican candidates never feel the need to stop here. And it's a lost cause for a democrat to do so either. The only way Indiana would ever be blue in an election, is if Evan Bayh is on the ballot.

SportsNation's MLB Awards Predictions
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) I don't take hope in this. At the end of April, they had Schilling over Contreras? At this point, with the win difference, it's reasonable to conclude that, but at the end of April?! I do like the Thome trend, and that would be awesome to have another MVP on the Southside. As far as AL Rookie of the Year, it'd be a travesty if Papelbon didn't get it. That kid is a beast. I've got a friend who asks me to watch Red Sox games with her when they're on nationally, and I always get a kick out of watching Jonathan pitch. Dude, it's a fan poll. It doesn't make a difference what fans think in terms of the end of the season awards; it's voted on by writers. And just as you reasoned with Schilling over Count in April?!, Papelbon will have to keep up a similar pace through out Junel?!, Julyl?!, August?!, and September?!

Jon Garland's Performance
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) It was nice to see him utilize his fastball more. I think it's fair to say he won't match his numbers from last season, but he's going to be a solid 4/5 starter. To be honest, I have more confidence in him than I do Garcia. Same here. And when we finally get BMac his spot in the rotation, I'd rather have Garland stick around over Freddy. I just feel that we have every reason to believe Freddy's peaking or about to peak, especially with his new slower velocity. I do feel Garland is good enough to be no worse than an above-average/solid 4-5 for us, and I have no problem with that.

AL Central Central
I just can't buy that the Sox are not as good as perceived. You can't get lucky 110 times in one year. And then add players with historically better numbers to that roster and expect to get worse. We're just underperforming at a bad time.

Jon Garland's Performance
I keep seeing improvement in his starts, and it's a shame that the Sox had to waste a QS by Garland.

Big Frank
QUOTE(T R U @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 02:35 AM) Thatd be raw if he got 1500 and 1500 at the same time He got hit #2000 at the same time he got HR #400.

You people are becoming too lazy
Gage and Heads are gone for the weekend. So there's the reason for the lack of reports on our awful farm system.
-
Broken Record
Don't worry about Frank. Even if he was here, we'd still have problems with our bullpen, management of CF, and SS. Back on topic.

And that it will.

Broken Record
And a quality start by JG will be overlooked because of the failure to execute elsewhere on the team.

In house options to replace BA...
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Yep...we need a brand new center fielder. Who? I can't stand that people say that, yet they never bring a name, a realistic name to the table.

Heads your game record's getting lame.

6/2/06: Rangers @ SOX
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) Anderson's defense has taken on a Chuck Norris like mythology on this site. When you compare it to anyone else's on the team....f*** yeah it is.

6/2/06: Rangers @ SOX
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) Yes, but when you have a man on in a tie game in the 8th, every manager in baseball is going to make the switch for more offense. And what a horrible move that was. You need BA's defense, especially late in games.

6/2/06: Rangers @ SOX
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) I say we overpay and reacquire Rowand. 2 prospects and McCarthy. And I and the rest of the board better say f*** no.
-
6/2/06: Rangers @ SOX
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) And that's where the problem is. No one has confidence in Anderson at the plate, and how can you blame them? And this team's problem is NOT offense. You know that. Defense is much more important. BA's helping this team a hell of a lot more with his defense than he is hurting it with his bat.

6/2/06: Rangers @ SOX
QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) Let's face it. We miss Rowand even though we got the better player in the deal. No. Ozzie should have kept his starter, the better CFer in the f***ing game.

Do you BA naysayers f***ing get it yet?

Offense is not the problem
QUOTE(Jake @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) I really hope you're kidding. Do you think he was happy with his performance with the angry smiley? Sometimes green isn't needed for sarcasm.

6/2/06: Rangers @ SOX
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) thats fine with me Ehh...I want the win, but I wish the HR wasn't our only option. I just don't expect us to string a bunch of hits together at once against their pen. I'd love for them to prove me wrong though. Hopefully our pen can hold tight until something happens.
