QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) A good offensive mind will see the 8TD's Cutler threw. Not many OC's can get a job where you have a potential franchise QB to call the shots for. That makes the job enticing, regardless of the HC situation. Enticing for one of two types (1) a young up and comer who is willing to take a job to build his resume (regardless of if it only lasts for one year) or (2) a burnout who wants to prove he can still coach (regardless of if it only lasts one year). I agree that Cutler makes it somewhat enticing, but the HC position has to be at the forefront of their minds. I dunno, this goes back to the reason why we should have just fired Lovie to begin with. At this point we may as well call up Ron Turner and see if he will coach on the cheap.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) Do you have a link to this Steve? I'm looking and don't see anything official. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/1991195,per...ator-14.article

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) It is not a dead-end job when you have Jay Cutler and the young wide-outs the Bears have. If I were a young up and comer this job would be a pretty good one to show-case my skills and potentially move up to a head coaching gig (whether in Chicago replacing Lovie or somewhere else). Plus, an OC in CHicago will get pretty much free reign to run there side of the ball which is exactly what a real good offensive mind would want. I actually think, outside of the clear risk with Lovie only being there for a year, that the Bears OC position is a real good job. And I should point out if the OC does good and is young and the Bears go hire a Cowher after the season, well, Cowher might darn well keep the OC (if he's good) because Cowher's focal point and likely whomever the Bears hire as an HC will be the defense. I think you greatly overvalue the "great wideouts" we have, in fact I'd say we still have one of (if not) the worst WR core in the entire league. I see most candidates viewing position as a dead-end hire because most rational people know that Lovie and his entire staff will likely be fired at the end of the year. You cannot count on a new HC coming in and keeping you, it doesn't seem to happen very often.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) Looks like Fuel is headed to the Giants. Do you blame him? I'd take better talent on D and more job security any day if I was an up and coming D-Coordinator.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Some guy called into one of the sports talk shows this morning and mentioned Smith, and I just had to roll my eyes. Smith would not only be a bad hire, but they couldn't pay him anything close to the Bears. If UT is going to make someone the highest paid coach in college football (which is what they would do in matching Lovie's salary with the Bears), it's not going to be Lovie Smith. That would be the single greatest thing to happen to the Bears. Lovie goes to UT and Cowher comes to Chicago. . . nope not gonna happen.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) I hope Carroll can figure out how to use Seneca somehow. I can probably figure it out. . . keep him on the bench.

This was some pretty heartbreaking news. Artie isn't the funniest comedian around, but from the nine years I have listened to him on THSS he seems like he has a really big heart. Artie may be compensating for his demons, but I can't even remember the amount of times he has given people money or loaned it to them etc ... This news, however, shouldn't surprise anyone. Artie has been battling his heroin addiction since he was filming Beer League (moderately funny, not horrible btw) and he has never taken the time to properly address the problem. His attempts at sobriety included, a trip to a SPA where he could "dry out," and hiring a retired cop to spend 24 hours a day with him to keep him out of trouble. In an odd way, this attempted suicide may end up saving his life. I can't imagine that either SIRIUSXM or Howard allowing Artie to return to work anytime soon. He may have no choice but to commit himself somewhere and actually get his act together the right way. I think the show will miss him, but I hope he gets help. Artie is still a relatively young man (early 40's) and he still has many more stories to tell.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 07:22 PM) That was a terrible goal by Tim Thomas, he deserved to get pulled after that. Keith's second goal? Chara's enormous ass crossed in front of Thomas right as the shot was fired. . . TT had absolutely no chance to make a save on that one.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Like I said earlier, I am guessing if that is the package, Bosh has them backed into a corner, and this is their way of getting something for him. sounds 2 good 2 B Tru. -
Hester had a nice catch, but he can't out run anyone anymore... he doesn't have that burst that he used to have.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) Do Bears WR ever make tough plays? No, both Devins dropped Tds today.

The decision isn't gutless, but it is too pre-cautious for my taste. There are only a few teams who are lucky enough to make a run at a perfect season. In fact I would say that a perfect season is the single most important record that exists in the NFL. The NFL doesn't cherish stats and numbers the same way that MLB does, but the perfect season is really the only thing (maybe along with the single season td passing record) that fans and the league seem to cherish. I understand that going 16-0 doesn't mean anything if Peyton Manning blows out his knee and they lose their first playoff game, but I think there are certain (very few) situations where you assume that kind of risk. In my opinion, I would have kept my guys in and gone for history. There is something very special about going undefeated and if you can do it you enshrine your organization as the only team to ever go 19-0. That would have been worth it to me and I would have been upset if Lovie pulled Cutler in a similar situation (wouldn't that be a nice problem to have). That being said, I understand why Polian and Caldwell did what they did. They are completely fixated on winning the SB and they should be. They obviously don't share my opinion about the perfect season and if they win the superbowl the decision to pull the starters in game 15 will be a footnote. Oh well.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) It depends on what you move for him. They're not likely to want Deng, since they spent money to sign Ariza last summer. Trading one expiring piece for another doesn't help the Bulls, so Miller included is at best a lateral move. Including Salmons or Hinrich, that's starting to get there, but would the Rockets want either of them? The other thing to keep in mind is that the Bulls are only like $100k or something ridiculously low like that below the luxury tax, so in any deal that is done, the Bulls will not take on any salary; adding a couple hundred thousand in salary would cost them the $4 million or so they'd get in luxury tax payments from the other teams in the league. Dime Magazine seems to think the Bulls are the most likely team to trade for T-Mac in a deal that would send Miller, James, & Salmons to Houston. I would be all for it. First, acquiring McGrady would at least make this season a little more entertaining -- if only just to see if he has anything left in the tank. You have to assume that McGrady will be focused on showing the league that he still deserves a decent sized contract (which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on if he actually has anything left in the tank). Second, it would take Salmons' contract option for next year out of the equation and guarantee the Bulls more cap room for the upcoming FA Class (not that I think were going to get anyone, but still cap space is never a horrible thing). If Houston will take Kirk, they can have him. I'm actually not too down on Lu right now, he's been fairly consistent the whole year and he might still have enough talent to be the third best player on a championship caliber team. -
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) Toews, Keith and Seabrook are Canadian Olympians. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2009/...eam-canada.html Seabrook over Green and Phaneuf? Wouldn't have been my choice but you have to figure that Yzerman saw the value in keeping Keith and Seabrook together based on their success the past two years. I just pray that our boys come back from Vancouver healthy.

Derrick Rose is heating up, 18 pts 3rbs 4assts already today. DR1 is averaging 21-4-6 over his last five, which is very encouraging. He has looked healthier and more confident driving to the basket the past week or so. Amazingly, the Bulls are currently 7th in the East. -
QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Briggs will start in the Pro Bowl. Only Bear going. Briggs probably going on reputation alone.
