QUOTE(Yoda @ May 16, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) I had no idea that we're going to be on ESPN. Hopefully the pitching and especially the offense is there tonight. That works for me. It beats the hell out of MLBTV.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) Both players were available this past off season. Both are struggling mightily. Triple Crown = AVG, RBI, HR Here are their current stats. Dye -- .200/.248/.392 6 HR 14 RBI Hidalgo -- .204/.266/.363 5HR 19 RBI Is Death an option...........oh wait.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) How many sell outs would be good enough for you...? 81?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 16, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Can't come soon enough. I already told myself I would buy tickets for the game he comes back. I can't wait to see Hurt back. I agree but at the same time I dont want him to rush back into the lineup only to re-injure his ankle. That wouldn't do us any good.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) Newsweek has retracted its story. Too bad they won't be held accountable for all of those deaths. :headshake Yup. A bunch of people are dead, our soldiers were put in danger and our efforts to stabilize Afghanistan suffer a major blow because the editors of some magazine, in their rush to discredit our methods of prosecuting the war against terrorism, didn't bother to fact check their story properly. To borrow a recent catch phrase around here........ "Wow, just wow."

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) I agree, Pods will be key. If he gets on, the fat ass baby might drop down and start kicking and screaming on the hill. Toss him a bonet, a pacifier and a rattle and he'll be good to go.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Closers only save about 80-85% of games... if you consider that a blown save can occur in the middle innings when a reliever is attempting to gain a "hold", the blown save % would be even lower, I'd guess 75% or less. The White Sox are 1st in the AL in Saves. 1st in the AL in Save % and 2nd in the AL in Holds. I don't know how you can argue that they should be 5 wins better because of leads given up. Good point about a BS occuring earlier in the game although I don't recall that happening to us this season. I wasn't complaining about a problem with BS's just pointing out that its a better stat to look at when talking about where we should be win wise as opposed to how many leads we've held overall.

Frank to Begin Rehab Assignment Tuesday

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Maybe when he comes back, Dye can take his roster spot in Charlotte. I know, wishful thinking... I got a better idea. Maybe DEAD can get himself a job working at the county mourge. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Actually, I'm afraid he'll take that exact approach. If he does, he'll he be a .240 hitter. Yeah, he's tried that before with painful results. -
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Update: MRI shows nothing, it's 'tennis elbow', will throw on the side tomorrow, very slight chance he'll miss a start, will probably throw against us on the weekend. Fat boy. Unless it was truly serious he'd never miss a chance to pitch against us. Despite his motivation to beat us I think the fact that he isin't 100% and the fact that Pods and Timo are gonna totally mess with his head will do him in,

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) EAT s*** RUMP RANGERS!!!!!! LOL! Priceless!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) Out of those leads I think 16 of them were gotten in the first inning, which means that we are up 1-0 a lot of times most likely. It isn't like we have blown 10 leads in the 9th inning... there is a big difference. I think blown saves is a better indicator of whether we're costing ourselves games rather than looking at it in terms of number of leads blown overall. Thusfar I think we have 4 blown saves so actually JIMB408 wasn't far off in his statement that we should have 32 wins.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Goin down tonight. El Duque's gotta stop the minor skid just like in Tampa. And we got rough up Ho. GET IT DONE EL DUQUE HAHA GITERDONE!!!!! Duque will be fine. He's had a couple of rocky outings giving up the walk but he's been fairly steady thusfar.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Agreed, but bringing up Fonda on treason charges may have swayed a lot of moderates to the other side. She's damn lucky, as her actions were clearly treasonous. If it was a questionable case then I could see people being upset with it but what she did was so blatant that I'm surprised there wasn't a greater outcry to charge her outside of the military community.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) Let's hit the ball out of the Ho Park tonight. He's been decent this year but not good lately so we better swing the damn bats tonight LOL! Id like to see Oz adjust the lineup to keep at least 2 batters between Kong and Dead. If he does that we'll have a better chance to keep an inning going.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) A good start was batting Rowand 3rd. I would keep Rowand third and drop Everett to fifth in an effort to split Dye and Konerko up and in an effort to get both of them better pitches. I might also consider putting Uribe before Dye in the order. Perhaps even 4th if you're feeling saucy enough. Right now the best hitters in our line-up are obvious, and they aren't the players they should be. Mix the line-up. Konerko doesn't really deserve to be fourth, Dye doesn't deserve to be fifth. I could also try out Rowand 3rd, Uribe 4th/5th, Everett 4th/5th and see if Dye and Konerko can get anything going at the bottom of the order. I don't know about making Uribe cleanup hitter but I could see the following happening......... 3: AROW 4: Carl 5: Kong 6: Uribe 7: AJ 8: Dead ........at least until Thomas comes back then change that up based on how much rust he has coming back off his injury.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) Especially after what happened to Dan Rather. Unfortunately, the media is about creating news these days, rather than reporting what actually happened. Not only creating news but more to the point, creating news which is detrimental to the Bush Administration.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) If the popularity of the anti-war movement wasn't so strong as to protentially cost Nixon a ton of votes, he most likely would've impeached her. One of the things about politicians that really burns me up is that when given the choice to do something that's popular as opposed to whats right the politician will always go with popular. I also don't believe the hippies had the muscle to oust Nixon anyway. 4 years after promising to end the war Nixon was still in Vietnam and he won 49 states in his re-election.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Nope, Kip's right. If the story was flawed then why did Newsweek run it. You would think that an experienced news editor would have the common sense to ensure his story was accurate before running it, especially something as inflammatory as that.

If what is written there is an accurate quote by Col Carrigan and the others mentioned then I'll concede that that story is an "urban legend". However, that article had more than enough juicy stuff on that traitor to convict her of treason several times over. Its really a shame that she wasn't thrown in jail for what she did. She clearly crossed the line between free speech and treason.

QUOTE(The Critic @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) I don't want The Pitcher Killer to keep his job because he'll wreck their arms. I want him around because he's a DISMAL in-game manager. He makes ALL the wrong moves ALL the time. The most important f***up I can remember from his Cub stint so far is when he left Zambrano and Clement rotting on the bench in Game 7 of the NLCS because he "would need them for the Series". Well, Dave Veres and Mark Guthrie made sure the World Series would not happen for them. NICE STRATEGY, DUST!!! He's gotta be the only manager in the history of sports to look past a game 7 and ahead to the next series. What a dumbass.

Peter Gammons - Cubs biggest disappointment
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to Jabroni's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ May 16, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) I didn't either, I was so confused all offseason how Cubs fans and media people thought that even after losing Sosa, Alou, and Clement the Cubs were the best team around. I mean, Gammons picked them to go to the world series, right? It's easy to say now, but I didn't ever really think they would be able to replace Sosa's and Alou's bats in the middle of their lineup or Clement's quality innings. Oh well, I don't mind watching the Cubs suffer!! Its not confusing to me that Flubbs fans thought they were going all the way. They are delusional people who don't pay any attention to facts they just spout off "We're the greatest!!!". That's fine with me though cause their despair at their current situation is really funny to watch. -
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ May 16, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) That is very scary thinking of Carl in the OF again...people will be shooting shots towards him all game... Yeah. His one outing in the outfield was downright scary and he nearly put himself on the DL to boot.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) The problem is that we have no first basemen on this roster. Pauly is our 1B until Gload gets back. When G-Load does get back he needs to play the 1st day. Kong clearly needs a day or 2 on the bench.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 16, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) How is he the last guy in our bullpen. He is up most of the time. And he came into two games over the weekend to stop the bleeding and he cant throw strikes. Its one thing to walk a guy, its another thing to plunk a guy and then throw a pitch almost over the head of a batter. His wildness is almost funny if we werent a good team. This guy coming out of the bullpen in a close game is terrible. My problem is with Cotts being brought in after he had a train wreck of an outing when Politte hasn't pitched in forever. If Politte was hurt then I could see but why is he not getting some work if he's healthy?
