  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) Those that look at things from outside the proverbial box have historically been labeled as nut-cases, yet from time to time these nut-cases are proven to be correct. I essentially agree with you, but if you ask me, not believing in dinosaurs and only believing what the bible tells you would classify as not looking outside the proverbial box. But I guess that can be interpereted in many ways. I do believe that everybody is entitled to their opinions. My problem with these comments, or at least one specifically, is that it could be considered hurtful or offensive. No matter what you think about the "gay issue", there will probably be a ton of people who find the "Gays being gay is wrong" statement to be insensitive. And while I don't want to compare his comments to those of John Rocker, in my mind, this particular comment isn't far off. Like I said, he has the right to believe these things. But, I'm sure the White Sox organization and many others prefer that he didn't make them. By the way, has this thread earned "Sex, Lies & Politics" status yet? Its starting to look a little out of place in the Palehose talk section.
  2. Well, his comments are now getting national play. Opinionated or ignorant, it would probably be best if he kept his trap shut.
  3. You know what this means... ...we have to do a thread like this everytime we are playing like s***.
  4. Is there a reference to the moon in the bible? If not, I'm pretty sure Carl doesn't believe the moon exists either.
  5. I think humans by nature are ignorant. But what do I know; I'm just ignorant.
  6. QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) He's entitled to his opinion, but it also makes him sound ignorant. It's like saying "being left handed is just wrong". I have had gay friends, and it's obvious to me you're born that way. End of story. Why the author asked him that question out of the blue... probably because he knew what Carl would say.. what else would you expect him to say. Basically what I was thinking, but I didn't want to make this a big political argument. He believes what he believes and he's entitled to think that way. As loony as his social commentary sounds though, he seems to be a decent guy. To be honest, he can believe in the loch ness monster for all I care. As long as he helps us win games, I'm a happy guy.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:30 AM) He's definitely opinionated. Well, at least thats not debatable.
  8. Didn't see this posted. Short article about Crazy Carl, essentially living up to his namesake. His Wrigley slam was amusing, but a few of these comments made me a bit squeemish.
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Who should we have signed instead for $8 million over 2 years? Bingo.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) But it kind of seems like he's getting gradually worse. He gives up about 3 or 4 runs every game. He's always been like this. Believe me, I think he's hard to watch too, but he's a big game pitcher. I think we'll be glad we have him down the stretch. And if he totally flops from now till the end of his contract, its just two years. I just think the money and the years are fairly low risk.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:18 AM) I can't believe KW gave this washed-up senior citizen a 2 year deal. Oh well, it's not my money, so I won't lose sleep over it. Well, the guy is 7-1. I'd say it was a pretty good move. Its not like its he's killing our payroll either.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) Has Duque become our version of Steve Trachsel? Mercy, he takes forever to pitch. ...or the pitching version of Carlton Fisk. Pudge used to drive me f***ing nuts behind the plate and hitting. He's one of my favorites, but the guy made being slow an art form. Ahhh! f***ing Aaron!
  13. I usually try to not go to games when El Duque is pitching. Watching him pitch puts me to sleep. :sleep :sleep :sleep
  14. I actually think that Bernstein is damn good (about the only guy on the Score who is) and is the only thing that makes Boers remotely tolerable. That being said, unless there is a point I'm missing, who gives a s*** whether we are nationally loved or not. If we made it to the World Series, I wouldn't give a flying f*** whether the rest of the world was watching or caring. Let Cub fans worry about s*** like that. All I know is that myself and a ton of other Sox fans in Chicago (and some abroad) would be creaming there pants if we were in the Series. My guess is that Boers said it simply for reaction. And as a radio guy, spouting off nonsense, with reason or not, is part of the job.
  15. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) I agree, but the pitchers did okay at the plate. I wouldn't trade Politte's RBI single for anything. Watching Cliff's slap hit from from the right field seats at Coors was the highlight of the season for me.
  16. QUOTE(peanut33tillman @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) if were ranking managers based on THIS SEASON which is what i thought...u cant possibly see him as numero 3..but ur opinion i wont argue it For this season, yes, I'd say Torre hasn't been up to snuff. Still not sure if the poll is in regards to this year, or overall.
  17. QUOTE(peanut33tillman @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) torre 3?? hell no with that talent its absolutely ridiculous he cant even keep that ballclub at .500 pathetic....truly is otherwise i agree for the most part Joe Torre has won a bunch of championships. Talent or no talent, you have to respect that. Hell, I never thought much of Phil Jackson as a coach, but you can't ignore the 9 rings.
  18. If you wanna get really obscure, I give you these: Billy Jo Robidoux Steve Rosenburg Adam Peterson Esteban Beltre Ramon Garcia ...and basically the entire 1989 White Sox.
  19. I'd say that having Ozzie at #9 is about right. You need a few division titles to be considered a top tier manager, and Ozzie's got a ways to go to get there, but I'd certainly take Ozzie over more than half the managers in the league, without question. Partly cause I think there are a lot of s***ty managers out there, partly because I think Ozzie's gonna be a damn good one.
  20. Nothing beats Jesus Pena in my book. Then again, there's Norberto "Paco" Martin, Jerry Kutzler, Don Wakamatsu, and Shaun "I look like an '80s porn star" Abner.
  21. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) BEVINGTON MANAGED BETTER THAN OZZIE IS MANAGING THIS PAST WEEK. AND HE DID NOT FLAP HIS JAW EVERYTIME SOMEONE HAD AN OPINION ABOUT HOW HE HAS DONE. Yet the media, fans and players appear to like Ozzie more. Go figure.
  22. QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) Exactly how are his numbers better? They are very similar. His bat is left-handed. So that makes his terrible numbers better? He can hit to all fields. Grounding out to short and flying out to right are still outs. He does not clog the bases and can steal? Have you ever watched this guy run? I think he gets about 5 steals a year. Big deal. Also, for all the ranting about all the DPs Konerko hits into, Chavez has into one less than Paulie this year. As for the fielding, he's actually won 3 gold gloves, not 4, from 2001-03. He's made NINE errors this year. In my estimation, this guy is not an upgrade over Crede. Even if he is slightly better, I'd rather not trade future talent for this guy, whose numbers may have been inflated by the Giambi Juice. Difference is, Crede has a history of suckage. Chavez doesn't. I don't think we'd all be so down on Crede if he hadn't been performing like this year in and year out. The answer is as simple as that.
  23. Personally, I think Anna Kournikova is hotter than both of them. Man, this board has gotten weird. :rolly
  24. I actually think we may need bullpen help more than we need offensive help. At the moment, we have two lights out guys (Hermy and Politte), one iffy guy (Marte) and alot of blah. Besides, get two more quality guys in there, the lesser the chance of Ozzie throwing someone out there who sucks.
  25. I know he's on long rest and may be rusty, but his past few outings have been a tad concerning. If I remember correctly, he walked his share of guys against the Cubs and in Anaheim and was able to get out of jams.
