  1. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) If Burnett is truly on the market, bye-bye BMac, Marte, and whoever else within reason if it's going to bring him in for a few years. I honestly wouldn't mind, because we'd then have 5 quality starters, something few, if any, MLB teams can claim. Hasn't Burnett been pretty injury prone? He's got nasty stuff, but I'm not sure I'd break the bank for the Marlins equivalent of Kerry Wood.
  2. I'm assuming we're only talking about currently running programs, right? Comedy: Family Guy, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Daily Show (Does this count?) Drama: The West Wing (I think I'm one of the few people who still watch this) and The Sopranos
  3. I look at it this way... Would you rather burn to death or freeze to death. Burning sounds a lot more painful. I choose the cold.
  4. I prefer cold. You can add layers if you need to warm up. If its too hot, there is only so much you can take off...at least in public.
  5. Personally, I took it a lot harder when we lost 2 out of 3 to the Devil Rays. Nobody took bragging rights. The Cub fans are gonna talk s*** regardless. For those of you who are about ready to jump off a cliff because we lost 2 out of 3 to the Cubs, take solace in the fact that we are 26 games over .500 and they are still hovering in the land of mediocrity. We seriously didn't need these 3 games to tell us who the better team is. And while Cub fans won't admit it, any mildly intelligent Cub fan (I know, oxymoron) knows who the better team is.
  6. Well, I haven't checked this site in a few days, but I expected to see a thread like this today. I refuse to get upset about these past two games. They were more important to the Cubs. I'll be more upset if we play like this against the Twins. Of course, I'd like to mop the floor with the Cubs, but this year is different. As the saying goes, we've got bigger fish to fry. The worst thing that came out of the past two games is that we lost a measly game in the standings. We are still a damn good team. And even damn good teams have stretches where they don't look so good. As long as the players put these losses behind them (which should be easy considering that these games mean a lot more to the fans than the players), we should be fine. I'm sure some may think I'm being too optimistic, but hell, we are 50-24 and leading the division by 9.5 games. There is a lot to be optimistic about.
  7. QUOTE(shakes @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) Why, Does he strike out a lot? Yah, but its ok. He's one of those slow big bopper types... ..oh wait.
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) Patterson k's to end the inning, 1-1. No need to post that. It was just assumed.
  9. Shingo Takatsu. Its always the guy you'd least suspect.
  10. I think you might have a lot of Cub fans voting for Ozzie. I don't know a lot of Cub fans who like Dusty these days.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) It was still pretty dumb....sarcasm or not. No arguement there.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) I completely lost respect for Cub fans with this one: Being that the post was submitted by a guy named "Hypocritical Cub Fan", I think it was meant to be sarcasm. In other words, it was a Sox fan in disguise.
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) Mariotti, Padilla and another columnist from Chicago have said the same. Not sure about Mariotti (although I seriously doubt he would protect Ozzie) but I've heard Padilla call Phillips' claims rediculous.
  14. I say you should call this guy. He'll take care of 'em for ya.
  15. Nothing bad to say about Carlos. He left with class. Can't say that about the other guy in Detroit.
  16. Anybody notice that Korey Patterson has a chance to strike out 5 times today? He leads off next inning.
  17. Don't look now, but Luis Viscaino is leading all relievers.
  18. They are singing a different tune these days, and they don't sound very confident that they'll catch us. Twins battling odds in Central Sid Hartman Star Tribune Published June 23, 2005 The Twins' chances of catching the first-place Chicago White Sox in the American League Central are not very good, even though it is only June 23. The White Sox are 49-22 and 10 games ahead of the Twins. If the White Sox play .500 the rest of the season, they would finish with 95 victories. The Twins, 38-31 after losing 8-1 to Detroit on Wednesday at the Metrodome, would have to go 58-35 to finish with 96 victories. "The White Sox have done just about everything right, and I don't see them coming back to the pack," Twins General Manager Terry Ryan said. "Obviously, they're hot. But they're there for the long haul. They are that talented." The Cleveland Indians, in addition, are only 1½ games behind the second-place Twins. "Cleveland is a good team. They're starting to hit, and I think their pitching staff has been solid, their bullpen has been good, "Ryan said. "And it was a matter of time, I think, before they started hitting. They're hitting now, and they're making a charge." The Twins have lost four consecutive series at home. They have lost nine of their past 11 and are hitting .167 in the first two games of the Tigers series. Detroit entered the series with one complete game this season; it now has three. "We'll get on a roll," Ryan said. " We'll get everybody back, and I suspect, in time, we'll get going here, but obviously, the White Sox are going to have to cool off for us to catch them." Ryan doesn't dispute that the Twins might have to make a trade if they are to win a fourth consecutive division title. "There's always a chance of doing that," he said. "It's just a matter of the fit, what you're willing to give up. As you approach June and late July, certainly, you're going to have a lot of exchange with various clubs throughout both leagues, who's available and who's not." Ryan is confident that owner Carl Pohlad will agree to add a little money to the payroll if the Twins can acquire the right player that will help the team. But Ryan won't make a trade unless it is for the right player. "It depends on how long you'd be able to have the player. If it's just a rental player, you're less apt to do something like that, but if it's a guy that is going to stay with you, you give it more consideration," Ryan said.
  19. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) Would love to trade Dye and have the Sox pick up Pierre I really like Pierre, but we have other more important needs.
  20. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Very well, post your phone number. Thanks.
  21. This whole debate is pretty silly. Call me when we lose due to Frank hitting 3rd.
  22. I really don't see why its so bad having Frank bat third. He gets on base. He hits the longball. Whats the big f***ing deal?
  23. Sleepy or not, Lamont was blah. Hence why he is yet to find another managing job since getting canned by the Pirates 5 years ago.
