QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) Fair enough. I know people will have different opinions than everyone else. We're all Sox fans here, so I don't want you thinking I was attacking you for not hating Ozzie. No harm done. You're still wrong though.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) i'm one of the most calm levelheaded sox fans on here, and i'm flipping at ozzie tonight, probably the first time this season. There is NO excuse for pitching walker in that situation, none. Never said I wasn't pissed. I'm just reading comments like Ozzie is the worst manager in baseball and he's an idiot, and I just think that ain't true. I realize that its their opinion, as this is mine, so I'll just let the issue die. Rant away fellas.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) Are you serious? You honestly think Ozzie isn't a terrible manager? I can't see how any smart baseball fan wouldn't think he's just god awful. I think he's had a s***ty week. I don't think he's a s***ty manager. I'm upset about the way he's handled the bullpen tonight as well, but sheesh...

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) That's exactly what I was thinking... wow what an overreaction. Pretty much explains most of this thread.

from the Daily Herald... Watergate researcher still proud of UI work

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) How about the Twins GIVE Stewart and Jones to the Braves? Braves can take Santana too. How bout a Stewart, Jones and Santana swap for Julio Franco?

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 04:11 AM) "What impact, if any, has Ozzie's Managerial Performance on the team's record?" This was the question asked. I am assuming Managerial performance is referring to his in-game performance, but maybe when he's taking a leak in the clubhouse he is also performing mangerially by making decisions such as to urinate next to Shingo Takatsu instead of Joe Crede. You can make a strong case that how he manages the clubhouse has at least as much to do with managerial performance as in-game performance. Case in point: the 2005 Chicago White Sox.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:59 AM) I don't have to say a score; this picture says it all. (wearing a grass skirt) DAAAAA Bears, da bears, da bears!

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:55 AM) Since this is a Chicago White Sox board... Mike Ditka, 52-0. Well, that goes without saying.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:38 AM) Name me a manager that's won 3+ games for his team this season. Exactly. Its hard to credit specific wins and/or losses to a manager. Ultimately its the play on the field that wins or loses ballgames. All I look at is the fact that Ozzie is the manager of the team with the best record in baseball. And being that the team likes and respects him (as indicated by almost every interview I've heard), and the fact that we aren't winning because we are the most talented team on earth, I have to believe that Ozzie has something to do with it. As for his managing skills, yes he makes some questionable calls, but what manager doesn't? I've seen LaRussa, Sciocsia, and Torre call some s***ty games in their careers as well. Overall, I've liked how Ozzie's handled the starters and has found a way to keep our reserves fresh (yes, sometimes to a fault - Timo). Ozzie has made some moves that have left me scratching my head, but for the most part, I think he does well with the talent that he is given.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) Isn't wins and losses where it is at? Has Oz cost us any games? Has he won any? No way to say either way, but in my opinion, the teams attitude may be the biggest reason for our success. And that team attitude reflects Ozzie's. In my mind, it is hard to minimize the significance of Ozzie's presence to this team.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) Why the hell is he called Deep Throat??? Just a code name given to him by Woodward and Bernstein. Named after, no joke, the porno of the same name. Not really sure why they chose to do that.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) I am too young so can someone give me an overview??? Deep Throat was the guy who leaked info on the Watergate scandal to Washington Post writers Woodward and Bernstein. Until today, the identity of Deep Throat was only known by Woodward, Bernstein and Post editor Ben Bradlee. It's a pretty involved story. For more info, rent "All the President's Men". Its based on a book that both Woodward and Bernstein wrote. Its an amazing move and basically tells you most of what you need to know about the situation (IMO).

With Woodward confirming it, questions are starting to arise. This was from a CNN.com article.

Ozzie's most dubious managerial call yesterday?
KevHead0881 replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(thomsonmi @ May 31, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) I levy these complaints as one of Ozzie's number one defenders on this board. I think he had a bad day yesterday that's all. Otherwise, I continue to be thrilled with the job Ozzie is doing as our manager. That is essentially my thoughts on yesterdays game, and basically why I haven't made much hay over it. One poorly managed game does not make the manager. And for the most part, I think Ozzie has done an excellent job this year, as our team attitude and our record reflect. -
Confirmed. Felt is Deep Throat: per Bob Woodward

It's best that we keep doing what we always do. Otherwise, the terrorists win.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) Vanity Fair actually is more than a fashion mag--they do a lot of cultural and political stuff. I subscribe and I'm not shocked that it's in there. And I look forward to that article. I've never read it. Only knew it to be a fashion mag. As a subscriber, I'll obviously take your word over mine.

QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) If you didn't have a picture of Tessio (abe vigota) up I'd attack you for that comment. At least you understand the virtues of family. Don't ever disrespect the family.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 31, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) And why would this story be in Vanity Fair? I was wondering the same thing. I guess Vanity Fair is the new standard for investigative journalism. :banghead

QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 31, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) As it is, he is simply a huge asswhole off the bench. Wow. Insightful. :headshake

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) I will agree that Willie seems to be making more quality work of his times in games this year. When he tried stealing second on the foul ball, and when he finally did steal it, he was very decided in his move to second. Last year he seemed tentative and unsure of himself. If we can have that kind of speed and a basestealing threat coming off of the bench, that is awesome for the late innings. Yah, I totally forgot that he tried stealing on the previous pitch. Hawk and DJ made it sound like he had the base easily. If he finally figures out the art of stealing bases, that could make him a huge asset off the bench.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) 1. Willie Harris-uncharacteristically draws a walk and then steals second, who is this new player, and where have you been? Good call. Looking back, he would have scored regardless being that Crede walked right after him, but that was an impressive sequence of events for Willie.

Ozzie's most dubious managerial call yesterday?
KevHead0881 replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As much as I'd like to dwell on one questionably managed game that we won, I'd prefer to concern myself with tonights game. -
Interesting tid bit. Why Did Bob Woodward Lunch With Mark Felt in 1999?
