  1. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) Back in the 80's most of the fans wanted Larussa gone he had one great season as the manager Thats what I'm saying. There was a time when LaRussa couldn't step out of the dougout without being showered by the boobirds.
  2. Yah, and we essentially ran LaRussa out of town. I try not to think about what the fans think about the manager. I look at the results. While I wouldn't say Ozzie is the best we've had, I think he's done a fine job...regardless of what some say around here.
  3. Balancing out the line-up with a good bat near the bottom. Nothing wrong with that.
  4. Speaking of Black Jack, this is kind of changing the subject, but I hope the Sox bring him back to broadcast a few games. He was fabulous in that game in Anaheim. Back to the topic though, my vote was for McDowell. 20 game winner, won in the playoffs, and had sustained success. Give Buehrle a year or two and he should easily be at the top of the list.
  5. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) Widger was behind the plate for Buehrle in the 1:39 game against Seattle. Perhaps another one? I was at that Seattle game. Unbelievable game by Buehrle, but to be honest, there was a part of me that was kinda pissed about how short the game was. I missed about 3 innings in the beer line.
  6. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jun 22, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) ITS TIMO TIME. Nope. Didn't hear Timo's name. Unless I missed something.
  7. Just heard on the Score that Pods and AJ have the day off. Uribe is back in the line-up today.
  8. Nothing wrong with being underdogs. If we make the playoffs, people can call us whatever they want. As long as we win.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) I've heard a ton of people around here giving up on him - saying we should trade him immediately because he'll never amount to anything or that ST was a fluke. I think those sorts of comments started immediately after the Texas game. My thought is that he needs to work on throwing his changeup as a strike, to take more pressure off of his fastball and curveball. If he does that i think he'll be what we saw in ST again. But I've heard quite a few people who've already given up on him. I've heard people give up on the whole team in the game threads. I don't take it too seriously. If people were quick enough to give up on BMac after a couple poor outings, then I don't think they were that high on him to begin with.
  10. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) Garland would only be getting 4 days rest(Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday). I don't like that at all. If you're not going to pitch BMac, send him down and bring up another pitcher. Our pitchers throw enough as it is. Um...pitchers get 4 days rest in 5 man rotations. All we are doing is passing up the 5th spot on an off day.
  11. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) A lot of people are writing off Bmac already, theres a reason why this organization is so high on him even though he hasn't been performing well. I actually think Bmac can put it together, ST wasn't a fluke. He just needs to locate his pitches and relax. I haven't heard a lot of people giving up on him. I, for one, think no less of him. I think the consensus around here is that he simply looks like he isn't ready. He needs to get a better commond on his offspeed stuff and needs to keep the ball down. This can be seen in the alarming rate at which he's given up homers down in Charlotte. He'll be a good one. He just needs more time.
  12. Definitely a good move. Splits up the Cubans (bullpen relief). Plus, although I wouldn't worry so much about making sure our best are pitching against the Cubs, I would be a tad afraid of putting McCarthy in a big situation like that. He's been pretty shaky lately, and I don't want to see his confidence crushed.
  13. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) I just posted this in the McCarthy thread. I hope the short rest won't affect Jon's effectiveness. Jon will have the same amount of rest as always. We have an off day on Thursday, hence why they decided to skip McCarthy.
  14. Just said in their update that the Sox will skip McCarthy's start Sunday. Haven't seen this posted here yet. If so, disregard my post.
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) What was really pathetic about the interview was the fact that Jason doesn't think that Ozzie's mouth will be a negative this year but potentially a year or 2 down the line. Lets not talk about what a dominating team the Sox are this year. Lets talk about what MIGHT happen a couple years later with the loud-mouth manager. Well, I'd say that every manager in the bigs have the potential to be fired within the next few years. All it takes is losing. There has even been questions as to how much longer Joe Torre will be around with the Yanks. Point is, every manager is vulnerable to getting canned. The only solution is winning.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) Their status as "experts" couldn't be more clear. Yah, ya think picking the Cubs to win the World Series every year would have already taken care of that.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) He could have counted the teams on one hand who would have been interested in Joe Torre when the Yankees hired him and only needed his thumb. I don't understand the almost across the board White Sox bashing from ESPN related guys especially. They are making themselves look very petty and dumb so far this season. Can you blame ESPN? I mean, across the board, they all thought the Sox would suck this year. The Sox being the best team in baseball is kind of a threat to their status as "experts".
  18. This would actually be a decent article if it hadn't already been written about 5,726,624 times before over the past few years. We know we play second fiddle in this town. I'm glad that writers across the nation feel that we shouldn't forget this. Sheesh!
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) Carlos is having a huge season and is a far superior offensive baseball player than Pods. Defensively, Pods is better, but he's not exactly a Gold Glove left fielder either. I personally think the most positive thing about that trade was the money it freed up to acquire other players. If the money was no object, call me crazy call me dumb, but I would take CLee over Pods and Vizcaino as well. I won't call you dumb, but you might be crazy. While I agree with you that CLee is the superior offensive player, he didn't fit the team concept that we have today. Carlos is a helluva player, but its hard to imagine where this team would be without Scott Podsednik and everything that he adds to this team that we didn't have in the years we had Carlos. With a different team, I might say that it wasnt the smartest of trades. But I just think that Podsednik was exactly what this team needed. And I don't really think you're crazy. I just said that for effect.
  20. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:19 AM) I don't understand all of this Ozzie loves Viz stuff. He has hardly pitched at all since he has started sucking in important situations. But in the fith freaking inning, you have to dig down deep in your bullpen. I wish it would have been Shingo tho. His confidence has to be gone by now. Most rational statement made all night.
  21. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) Jinx I was hoping people missed that. Amazingly, this place seems to have calmed down since they tied it up.
  22. To think that we are actually winning this game. Thank god I have the TV on, or I would have thought that we were getting smoked.
