2008 College Baseball Thread
Fullerton just isn't as good as usual. They are going to have a tough time making the regionals, especially in there conference. The key is the rotation isn't as strong as it usually is. They were rocked by USC on Tuesday.

Comcast Is Up To No Good
Sweet....I just read where Cox in San Diego is going to be doing MLB in HD. Usually Orange County is right behind San Diego in getting that type of stuff. They claim it will only be 10 games a week, but its a start. I saw where Comcast and Time Warner have indicated they will do the same (but it depends on what region and I don't think any regions are currently offering it). In terms of ESPNNews HD, DirectTV and Dish Network have said they will carry it (don't know if it got added or not) and the cable companies have all indicated they will as well but no timetable for when the various cable companies will go live with such channel.

Comcast Is Up To No Good
I can't speak of Comcast, but DirectTV HD quality can't hold my cable companies jockstrap. Direct does have a few more channels but I really have most channels i'd ever want in HD. Now all I need is for my cable company to find a way to give me xtra innings in HD (I know you can get it if you had Direct TV, but it isn't worth the extra cost I'd have to pay with Direct).

Soxtalk's Biggest Loser Club
I stayed in at the same weight, but that included a heavy drinking Thursday night. I feel tremendous though and have been playing lots of bball consistently. I'm thinking I'm two good weeks away from being in the 165 range.

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!
These comparisons of Jon Garland and Gavin Floyd are just not accurate. Floyd and Garland were both top picks but thats where it ends. Garland lit up the minors quickly and came up to the majors and was a serviceable big league starter (ie while early on he didn't live up to the hype he was at least a league average starter for the vast majority of his career) all at a very young age. Hell, Garland is just a couple years older than Floyd and he's already had 6 straight 190+ inning seasons and won 93 games (more than he's lost) and posted an ERA+ of 105 (ie, just above league average).

Negative Catch All ~ House of Blues
QUOTE (BobDylan @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 06:47 AM) Rockies? Sox acquired Uribe from the Rockies in 04 (I think it was 04, may have even been 03) for Aaron Miles.

Positive Catch All
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 12, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) He should be. Its a nice improvement to have a 270-280 avg and a .350+ OBP in LF. Add in some power and plus fielding and there is no way this kid shouldnt play everyday. Between that hole and the absolute disaster at 3B last year (I know Fields hit some hr's late but Crede was horrid prior to being shut down and there was a lot of Andy Gonzalez). Now this lineup has a guy capable of doing something solid at every spot (and that allows the Sox to have a guy like Uribe or eventually Richar have little pressure on them to hit as long as they play great defensively).

Positive Catch All
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) And I'll stand by that statement to this day It is a wrong statement. A healthy Joe Crede is above league average at 3rd. He won't have a great OPS but he'll knock in close to 100, hit 30 HR's, play gold glove defense (people really underestimate this factor as he saves a ton of hits), and swing somewhere between .270 and .285 (which is a completely acceptable average). Basically the only massive flaw in his inability to draw a lot of walks and have more complete ab's (but every season in the majors he has gotten better at that and that is why his numbers when healthy have gotten better). I'm not saying Josh can't end up to be better than Joe but right now Joe is a much better baseball player (and to a point he should be since he has a lot more experience under his belt).

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (CWSGuy406 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) Wow... I just got a call from the head of this program at MU saying that I've been granted a job interview tonight for one of the Accounting internship positions. I thought nothing was going to come of the 'workshop' that was held this weekend, and just like that... an interview. Anyone have any general tips, anything I can do to prepare? Obviously I'm going to want to research the company more. As far as what to bring (besides my winning personality -- BOO YAH!)... it's fair for me, the interviewee, to bring a pen and something to write on, yes? Boy am I nervous. EDIT: My main question is what I should bring... Resume? Cover letter? Writing utensils and (obviously) something to write on? References? If I bring the references, can I just have those at the bottom of my resume? And -- I wasn't really expecting this, so this has jumped up on me and it's why I'm not terribly prepared -- do I need specifics with those references? Keith, let me know the accounting company. Depending on the firm (hell it could be the firm I work for) I may know some people (accounting profession is a small world) and can throw out a kind word or something. In terms of the interview, google interview questions and read through the list and develop answers. Mainly just have a couple of things that you plan on discuss when they ask for strenghts or weaknesses and an example of times where you worked in teams. That way you at least know where you are going to go. This is obviously a little late of course (since you've already interviewed), otherwise I'd hop onto my computer and shoot you over a few resume templates that I have.

Best White Sox Brawl?
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) 6. White Sox vs. Tigers (April 22, 2000) Sixteen players, coaches and managers suspended. Nine others fined. It was, MLB said, "the biggest mass suspension ever." That was the end result of two brawls that erupted at Comiskey Park, one in the seventh inning, the other in the ninth. In the sixth, the Tigers Jeff Weaver hit Carlos Lee with a pitch. In retaliation, Chicago's starter, Jim Parque, plunked Detroit's Dean Palmer in the top of the seventh. Palmer charged the mound, throwing his helmet at Parque before the real action started. "This wasn't just a shoving match," wrote Tom Gage in the Detroit News. "This was a nasty fight in which heavy punches were thrown and players were bloodied. White Sox reliever Keith Foulke had a facial cut that required five stitches." In the ninth, a couple more hit batsmen inspired another round of wrasslin', kicking and fisticuffs. When it was all over, the umps had ejected 11. Chris Osgood of the Red Wings was impressed. "It was a pretty vicious fight for a baseball game," he said. "But they stood up for themselves pretty good. It's a good way to build camaraderie." May Bday!!!

The Start of a Season, Why Are You Here?
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) But the argument being made is "why can't we have a bunch of individual threads instead of large ones". Even if we did do it that way, that wouldn't change the amount of posts, but they would now be spread out instead of all being in one place, which seems like more work for the reader. There just isn't a good way around it when you have a board with thousands of members. Personally speaking though, I actually prefer things that way because I can quickly see whether its a topic I'm interested or not interested and skim by it or not. In the case of the massive threads I tend to really scan or ignore pages cause I'm so behind on the new posts and since I really have nothing to filter what the news is I could end up missing stuff that i would usually read. I really understand both sides to it. On one hand, it definitely can keep things more organized, especially cause there are some posts that maybe don't need there own thread but on the other hand I personally can't stand massive threads.

Hydrogen Peroxide...aka Bleaching your goatee. You can also get the dye from a hairsalon (its basically peroxide in a sense). I know I used to have bleached hair back in the day.

#42 ~ Should the whole team wear it Tuesday?
QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 02:01 PM) the more people that wear it, the more likely some kid will ask his dad why everyone is wearing 42, and he will learn and hopefully read about it, not that he probably doesnt know about it anyways...but i think the more people that wear it, the greater the awareness, the better... if only 1 or two people wear it, it can go unnoticed real easily to those not paying attention to it Tremendous point. Plus, I honestly think is there really such thing as too many good gestures? This is being done out of honor and respect for a person who not only had an impact on the face of baseball but an impact on our entire country.

4/7 Games
Rob Bell is a former Reds starter, IIRC. I think he also had some time with the Drays as well. Probably has at least a couple seasons over major league experience and I had no idea the Knights had him on there roster.

The Start of a Season, Why Are You Here?
I have made an adjustment to the ad structure on the site with the ads solely appearing on the index page (as opposed to every page on the site). This may change in the future, but I wanted to just give a heads up in case people wonder what looks different.

I'm running an upgrade script on one of the other TCS's sites so it could cause a crash or two. Hopefully not. I plan on upgrading Soxtalk tonight if my other upgrades go smoothly. I use them as my test upgrades.

Chat Crew 2008
I'm going to be setting up a new chatroom for the Bears site and will post a link in it for the ST members (to check it out) and let me know if they are fans of it. If so, I will set it up here as well. It will integrate directly with the forum so when you log onto the site and click ot the chat your username will carry over and you can even click on a members name in the chat and access the profile from the forums.
