I must add, Iowa won yesterday and we have a shot at going above .500 in big ten play when we play the Hoosiers on Saturday.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) We'll agree to disagree then. Gottlieb saying it was the most atrocious thing he's seen in college basketball in five years is a complete joke. You guys just had a huge win, I see no problem with rushing the court.

Soxtalk Softball Info
QUOTE(TornLabrum @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) I received an email from Stephanie Furlan today indicating that there were those who were upset that this thing is being called WSI-Fest. I have no idea which site's users were complaining, but if anyone here did so, please don't take it out on her. There's a reason we're going to stick to the title "WSI-Fest, and it has nothing to do with any kind of inter-site rivalry. (I personally couldn't care about stuff like that, as those of you who attended the COTC parites can attest.) I was asked by the Sox if WSI wanted to have a patio party. I surveyed our users who replied in the affirmative. I gave Stephanie the dates selected by WSI about New Year's Day. It was after this was in the works that Mike contacted me about combining a patio party with softball. As it stands now, I'm at my busiest time of the year for my job; my son, who has linked the flyer is starting a new job, and the flyer covers both dates WSI selected. Neither my son nor I really have the time to make changes at this late date. You are all invited as our guests, and as the organizer, I can tell you that you are all just as welcome as any WSI member. I hope it wasn't one of our sites members and I look forward to the event, should be a real blast. As always, appreciate the effort you put into setting this bad boy up

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) They have little leaguers in there practicing during the week at 4 and I think their games start at noon on Saturdays. I think there are 8 or 10 teams so getting the field on a Saturday might be tough. I'll just get Mario to put us on one of his little league squads for the day As always thanks for the heads up.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) So, 1 question...you're citing a statistic which says that Luis Terrero would be a better outfield performer than Mackowiak, Podsednik, Owens, or Ozuna. So in other words, why should I trust it? Yep, those stats just look awful. There is no way someone is going to tell me Terrero is better than Mack, Pods and Ozuna (I could buy into Owens). Nor are you going to convince me that Erstad will be worse than all of them.

For all softball activity, please see the thread pinned at the top. That is the plan. Hopefully it will be a great event where we can have fun playing softball, than catch the game that night all while we raise money for a very worth-while trivia. I know I plan on attending this event.

American Idol
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) I always wonder how unrealistic the show is. My wife is a nurse, and she will scoff at it from time to time, but they throw enough twists and turns in it to keep her in love with the show. Plus, they usually will twist it in a way so that just when she wants to scream BS at it, they give you something to go "oh...O.K.". As far as drama (and dark twisted humor) goes, it is bar far the best thing on TV. The only drama I even consider watching. Ya, my best friend and former step bro's mom is a nurse and she will sit there and go why don't they order this and why don't they do that and than literaly 5 minutes later they'll order the test. I think they do a decent job, but at times they play it out. But hell I'm not a doctor or a nurse so I could care less And if I'm in the hospital for something (hopefully i'm not there and if I am it is for something minor) than I'm demanding to see house.

Best Celeb Meltdown 2006
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Huh, never seen that movie associated with "greatness" before. For me, Mel will always get a pass on almost everything due to his real name being "Max". Oh ya another classic. Personally I think the Patriot (think of the tomahawk scene) has some absolutely amazing action segments. Its like a cult movie between me and a couple of my good buddies. Kind of like Transporter 2 (what we call the greatest comedy of all time).

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) Pretty good episode of House. Wilson is cool. Ya, in fact it was a really good episode. House has to be one of the best shows on all of TV. Not only do you have interesting (albeit unrealistic) medical mysteries but you have the mysterious person (its is like two seperate drama's in one, plus dark humor.

Phone Call Etiquette
QUOTE(BMac Attack @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) I think it also makes a difference if you're calling on a land-line phone (which is likely to wake other people in the house up) versus a cell phone. I really don't care when people call my cell phone, but if they wake everyone else in the house up, then that's grounds to be pissed. Agreed

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Yeah I know Oden is awesome. But is he even playing tonight? And how bad does it suck that ESPNHD barely plays HD basketball games. It sucks even worse when you DVR/Tivo it, it wastes all your memory and then is nto even HD. And ESPN2HD has had like one thing in high def since my cable company added it about a month ago.

2nd mortgage vs. home equity loan
QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) Flips aren't happening in Rockford Jas.. Well I'm not familiar with the area, but, I know it is a lot more common out here in SoCal where you have really high turnover in homes and far shorter sales windows (and I'm sure it happens a lot in the city where people pick up an old condo in a good area and try to clean it up and throw it back on the market). I know in a lot of areas where there isn't as much demand (homes typically sit on the market a lot longer...for example where my family is from in Iowa) flipping is very uncommon because no matter what type of deal you'll get its hard not to get killed when you end up holding onto a house for an extended period of time (not only the sell time, but also the time you are holding onto the home while you are making the repairs). I mean lets be honest, you don't really buy a house in Iowa and figure its going to make a ton of money (appreciation is just very rare since land is easy to find and as opposed to paying a high price for an already built house its just as easy for someone to go, buy some land and build there own place (this really limits appreciation). That said I'm always amazed at how old houses can go for so cheap because the option of rebuilding it (even if the land costs near nothing) is real expensive (since biulding costs have climbed over recent years). On a sidenote is that the Rockford where the Rockford Peaches are from (A league of there own??)

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:57 PM) Majerus usually does Saturday Big Ten games; we'll probably get him for IU-Iowa Saturday. Yes...what is great is when him and Alford do a game together (which used to happen ocassionally IIRC).

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:59 PM) This thread loses all credibility without Britney Spears on the list, that was more of an overall meltdown though. Good call, of course her meltdown happened over the course of one day (the day she decided to marry K-Fed). That said her meltdown led to a great moment...K-Fed's career getting launched and him eventually joining the WWE (so pathetic its hillarious).

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:44 PM) I love the CBS Announcers, last years announcer during the Gonzaga/UCLA game was the best. I hate hate hate hate hate hate Mike"Duke"Patrick and Jimmy Dykes is the worst announcer in all of sports. Jimmy Dykes is by far the worse announcer I've ever heard. The fact I had to listen to him do the Iowa/ISU game last year made me want to throw up. He is so gosh darn awful. Luckily ESPN college crews that do big ten bball games typically consist of Aaron Andrews, Lavin & Musberger and ocassionally we'll get some of Majerus (although doesn't seem to be as much lately) and I am a big fan of all of them. Lavin because he absolutely cracks me up (he's a lot like DJ) and Majerus because of the X's and O's...Andrews well, that should be obvious (but she's also good at what she does)...and Musberger is a flat out pro. Jimmy Dykes makes me think Rex Hudler is a great announcer (and I think most on this board know my feelings of the incompotent jackass known as the "wonder dog").

Best Celeb Meltdown 2006
It has to be Mel Gibson because he was never really in anything too controversial aside from being a religious christian and the whole passion of the christ thing. Michael Richards is a comedian and they tend to be controversial regardless, he just happened to cross the line but a comic crossing the line isn't that shocking and well Tom Cruise is and always has been a douche so no big shocker there. Cruise is already a religious nut job whose a member of a cult (good old scientology) and I could go on and on about what a piece of work he is but I'll disgress. That said, while I hate Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson is still one of my favorite actors because of the great movies known as Braveheart and Patriot. Russel Crowe in Gladiator (despite the fact he's an ass) is another personal favorite performance/movie.

Phone Call Etiquette
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) This is part question, part needing to vent. Ok, so last night my wife went to bed around 9:30 and I stayed up and was watching TV. Around 10:30 PM, my sister-in-law calls to tell us she is pregnant. now keep in mind thi sisnt her first child. It's her second. Also, I have a very sick grandfather, so any calls late at night is a little scary. It could be "the call". Who the hell calls at 10:30 at night to tell you they are pregnant? Isnt that more of a 6-9 PM call? To me, 10:30 PM is reserved for emergancys like a death in the family. Thoughts? Given the situation I can understand the call considering she's probably really excited and wants to tell someone (2nd kid or not she's still going to be really excited, assuming they want to have another kid). That said if its my friends they all know they can call at all hours (as long as they don't decide to call me at 7AM on a Saturday or Sunday). I prefer to go with phone etiquette of...too early to call...because I get far more upset when someone wakes me up with a phone call early in the morning as opposed to late at night (unless they call at 2 AM to ask a really stupid question).

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) The madness of ESPN putting crappy games on my television. (shouldnt of put a ?) The worse part is they are freaking pathetic when it comes to broadcasting in High Def. Could they please start taking advantage of ESPN and ESPN2HD and start actually broadcasting all the games in high def (like CBS does). It would be nice, afterall, Iowa/Indiana is on later this week and of course, no high def. In fact very few college bball games on ESPN are on in high def and its a joke (Watching the Iowa/Wisc game on CBS was so freaking awesome compared to the crap the so called leader in sports, ESPN, throws out). If you claim to be the best sports network, not only have the most sporting events on, but also make sure you do everything with high broadcast standards (good announcers, great picture, all that jazz).

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 31, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) That's what Mack is for - LF. If you really need a righty bat here and there, then go with Ozuna as a PH. I think we are really reaching if our concern is "righty backup outfielder". That's way, way down the list of concerns, behind things like starting pitching, starting pitching, starting pitching, Juan Uribe, leadoff hitter, CF situation, defense in general, Ozzie's managing, injuries, young bullpen, and a few dozen other things. Exactly, by acquiring Erstad the plan is that you now have both Erstad and Mack as capable LF backups as well as Ozuna. In addition, you know that Mack will not play CF which means if needed we could easily start him full time in LF (and no one would tell me he would be that horrible out there on a full time basis, not great either, but I could see a .270, 15, 75 or so line).
