QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) lol, never! I would vote for Newt though. Ive seen him speak on multiple occasions. Very engaging guy, great speaker, and honestly, I like his way of thinking about issues. You don't hear him sugarcoat things and say the obvious political statements, which admittedly could be because there were no cameras, but still. It was refreshing to hear a politician talk about current events and policy debates without resorting to the typical answers. Newt would make an outstanding president. The guy is a political genius and I don't think there is a politician out there that I agree with more than Newt. Newt is also a guy that knows his history and has a great understanding of the past so that we will learn from mistakes and successes we made in that past. He'd never get elected but he'd make a tremendous president.

This is crap. I deserve to be a primadonna that is mentioned on Forbes. God damn it, thats it, I'm closing the site. Maybe with the site gone, they'll realize just how well known I was.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) I hate you for remembering that. And that's basketball, give me a break, please!!! I had em in the elite the 8. How was I supposed to know we can't beat any team with Northwestern in it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) It's happened to all of them. Brandon just doesn't know how to handle that stuff yet. You should see what happens to them when they are out at bars without any "security". Agreed and whether right or wrong it is the nature of being in the spotlight and being who they are.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) Asante Samuel is asking for big money, he might be worth it. I will admit to not seeing New England play on a weekly basis, but damn, he seems to be one of the best corners in all of football. Just the way he jumps routes (seemingly) all the time, his quickness and speed... I'm fine with Grossman backed up by Griese as our QB situation. We don't need a great QB in here, just an average one, and I think Rex can be that. We're looking pretty good in the immediate future, really. Maybe if you can get a little younger on the O-line, that'd be nice, but other than that... I wouldn't be shocked if we signed one of the bigger named guards (if we do lose Briggs) in addition to going after a lb'er via free agency to replace him (again if we lose him). And yes, we have money but we also have numerous guys that are due to get extensions (Vasher and I think Tillman may be due for another extension...plus Tommie Harris, Bernard Berrian and Rex Grossman). We also have Ian Scott as a FA and considering we aren't sure how Harris will come back from his injury there could be some benefit to bringing Scott back as an insurance plan. So basically, yes we are in a great position cap wise but at the same time JA is going to have some tough decisions upon him when it comes to who to extend, who not to extend, etc. Oh and we could also look at safety via FA (since thats typically a position where the good FA's don't end up breaking the bank).

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) A few thoughts: It's hard to have a fair opinion unless you've seen every film. Huh? I thought the critics hated 'Babel'?? Why is everyone so in love with 'The Departed'? Don't snooze on Forest Whitaker in 'The Last King of Scotland'. For those that saw Babel, is it worth seeing? What about the Last King of Scottland (is that like an action drama)? Both sound like they could be interesting but I don't remember any previews on them and since I'm out of town on business I'll probably hit up the theatres to kill time at least one night during the next 2 weeks.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 08:24 AM) Kind of wierd that they're reducing the number. Aren't the ESPN games always in Florida? No, espn does games on the west coast as well. I remember a couple years ago the Sox had a few games on ESPN (one of which was a McCarthy start against the Angels). And personally speaking, I don't see why people compare the Cubs and Sox. Sure they are in the same city but both teams are ran independently and the Sox are equal owners with Comcast so they could negotiate out as many games as both sides were willing to go. And if WGN wanted to show only Cubs games than that is there freaking right (they don't have to put the Sox games on or negotiate with the Sox to get a deal that natoinally televises about a game per week). QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Bulls interested in Pau Gasol. It makes too much sense. He's almost the perfect fit and compliment to Wallace. Now the only thing left is getting Memphis to accept a fair offer. -
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 07:09 AM) According to Scot Merkin, the 25 man roster is set: How do you guys feel about our 25 man roster on paper right now? Not as sexy as last year, but we should still be in the running to compete for the AL Central title. Starting Rotation Mark Buerhle Jose Contreras Jon Garland Javy Vazquez Gavin Floyd *he must win the job at spring training, will compete with guys like Gio, Danks, Haegar, Logan, Broadway. Bullpen Jenks CL Thorton L SU Macdougal R SU Aardsma MR Sisco MR/LR Massett * he must win the job at spring training Starting lineup Podsednick LF Iguchi 2B Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Crede 3B Pierzynski C Anderson CF Uribe SS Bench Hall C (AJ relief) Ozuna SS, 3b, 2b , LF (Mr. Pinch runner) Mackowiack 3b, LF, RF (Mr. Pinch hitter) Erstad CF, 1B (Defense replacement) Cintron SS, 2B ( can spell Uribe during the long season) I think its a darn solid squad and if it stays healthy and some of our youngsters develop I think it could be a contender when all is said and done. At the same time, if things go wrong we could find oursleves out of things (but you could say that about a lot of teams).

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) I didn't read the article, but I assume this wouldn't take effect until the 2008 season, right? It's too close to the start of the season to get a deal like this worked out, right? Nope, apparently 07.

QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) What if he's hitting .340 when he DH's? We did win the world series with Timo Perez at DH . By the way, good seeing ya stop on by Steve. Hope all is well

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 06:43 PM) In OOTP leagues I've always loved acquiring Erstad from people with the same mindset that you have, wite. That he sucks, that he's this, that he's that, and because of his salary he'll be moved for chump change and if he stays healthy he performs like an all-star. Point I'm making, so what if his career is over and he turns out to be Timo Perez. If the guy can remain healthy, something I'd set at about a 33% chance, he could be a real valuable chip for the 07 White Sox. Low risk, High reward. Exactly.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) I'm new this season to 24. I had never watched it before because I always missed the beginning of the season and felt it would be too difficult to catch up. Friends told me this year I could watch and be okay not having seen the first two seasons. They were absolutely right. I am loving it so far, even though it took me a week to watch the first two episodes. Now, I am looking forward to catching up with seasons past while staying on top of this season each week. So far so good. Considering your a fan of Jericho, I'd imagine you'll really really dig this as well. Only a couple more weeks till Jericho finally comes back (hopefully enough people watch cause I really dig that show and don't want to see it get cancelled).

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) Lovie certainly shouldn't settle for less than what the new Falcons head coach got, after what he's done over the past couple of seasons. Norv Turner scares me (after what he did in Oakland), but he's popular in Dallas, either way I could see the Cowboys making a run for him as their new HC or even the OC. Phillips is still the guy though I think. But if the Boys had permission to speak with Jeff Fisher, I think he would certainly be their 1st choice. Petrino's contract was terrible considering he has proven nothing at the NFL level.

Witesoxfan...the dollar amt hasn't been released yet (unless I am missing something).

I think Faulk is a great comparison. And I agree, I think he does enough things well that he will add value to some team (and no I don't think he'll ever be a star, but a darn good 3rd down type back, yep).

I'm glad Pods is having surgery. It could bring some truth to the rumors that he was really slowed last year with lingering problems. I also tihnk he had a hernia or something (I remember a few of our players having off-season surgery). Any timetable on Pods return? The nice thing about Erstad is that he'd look great in the 9 spot (because he's a slap hitter who knows how to handle the bat and run) and can even fit in the 2 spot (albeit his OBP wouldn't be what you'd want, he still again knows how to handle the bat...and I say that in case we have to use Guchi as the leadoff hitter with Pods hurt). I'm excited to have Ersty on the team.

I don't recognize the posters name. I was looking to see if it was specifically one person (and if so I would have said you could take this signing to the bank) but that wasn't the case. That said like I said before I think the Sox are front-runners and I wouldn't be surprised if this guy was right.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 11:09 AM) I recently switched from Cox Cable to DirecTV when I moved. I can't stand DirecTV...their customer service is horrible, they're expensive, and their tv guide maneuverability is ridiculously slow. Not to mention losing signal from even a weak storm system overhead. They lock you into contracts too. I signed up and I'm stuck with it for 2 years, plus any changes you make to your system (ie, upgrade from dvr to HD tivo receiver) extends your contract another year. Of course, being the baseball fan I am, I'd switch if I didn't already have it. I hate these deals, although it is good from a business perspective it s***s on the fans. The football package is something like $280 so it'll be interesting to see how much they jack the price up on the MLB package. I don't expect a price raise to the baseball package, but the football package has really shot up over the past few years (a lot of it having to do with them now offering all the games in HD for an additional fee, plus the new exclusive rights deal they had cost Direct TV a lot of money). I have Cox and absolutely love it. If I move to my own place I'd probably consider the dish but where I am now we have about 5 tv's (now we only use 3 of them regularly) but the other two are just hooked up to basic (which is free via cable) but if we had direct tv we'd have to have 2 extra boxes (more money) plus you have to buy equipment (we get our HD DVR's for no additional charge, just a 7.95 fee and even after owning for DirectTV you have to pay like 4.99 for each additional tv). Bottom line this is f***ing horrible. Unless Direct TV wants to give me 3 free HD DVR boxes and cut me a deal on my internet as well (since I get that and phone service through my cable company). Please MLB...don't sign the dotted line. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) What is a slingbox, for the technoogically inept? I have DirecTV. Have had the package for 10 years. It's basically fine -- and not really that expensive. I think it was only $159 last season -- and they take it in four payments. The only annoyances have been that you have to watch the home team announcers (mute button essential for the Twins' games), they only carry the Comcast and WGN games (excluding WCIU or whatever that other channel is) and the picture does disappear during bad weather, which if very annoying if the weather gets bad in the seventh, eighth or ninth inning. But, I'm thinking about the mlbtv.com package this season. Can anybody speak to the pros and cons of Mlbtv.com vs directv? Does that also force you to listen to the feeds from Twinkie Land, the Red Sox and other annoying play by play chumps? The pro's are that you tend to get a couple additional sox games with mlb.tv (that aren't picked up by Xtra innings). But the picture quality on mlb.tv is not that good (its good for being on a computer, but bad when compared to the beauty of watching it on a tv) and ocassionally you'll get connection lags (on MLB's side) that will have the feed stop or skip or do something else funny. I think mlb.tv is a good thing for people that want to watch the games from a computer or who travel a lot (and won't regularly be at home where they can watch on the package). And it is definitely better than the alternative of not being able to see anything. As far as a slingbox, I think its a box that you plug into a tv that somehow connects to the internet and allows you to watch the feed (coming from your TV) through a computer.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) They should be ecstatic that Walker left. Instead of Walker in 2007, you get to see Prince and Armando Allen, plus now they get Hughes, which never would have happened had Walker stayed, and they finally beat the mighty Illini for a recruit, so congrats there too. I'll take Walker. The guy is one of the more underheralded backs in Notre Dame history. He was a very patient runner, a good receiver and a steady horse in the backfield. I expect him to go on and be a first day pick (2nd to 3rd round...probably more like 3rd round) and end up having a pretty darn solid career (he did nothing exceptionally, but everything well).

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) I think Rivera has added something to Lovie's d. I also like the fact he coached with the Eagles and learned from Johnson there. Lovie is a nice coach, I just dont think he is one of those irreplaceable coaches like Bill Walsh. I like Lovie but if the Cowboys start talking crazy money ($5mil +) I have no problem with seeing Lovie leave for a first rounder or 2. And its not like Lovie created thet Tampa 2, I believe Kiffin did. I got news for you, the Bears are going to have to offer Lovie 5 million a year. He flat out deserves exactly that. I figure he'll be one of the 5-7 highest paid head coaches in the league once his deal gets announced. Basically put, 5 mill + is not what I'd consider a ridiculous offer (considering he's proven to be one of the top 7 coaches in the league). IIRC, Lovie was on the original staff that created the Tampa 2 though (Him, Edwards, Dungy, Kiffin, there old dline coach who Lovie always wanted as our DC).

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) I'm with Felix. I just really like the Orange jerseys. If Benson becomes the runner we think he will be, that'll be my next jersey, and that one will be in Navy blue. As one of Benson's biggest backers, that could very well be my next (I'm finally going to buy a white one). Albeit all of my football jerseys are reebok replicas (well the Conway is technically a Nike replica and maybe McNown was when Addidas was doing the Bears jerseys).
