  1. Cards took Perez so he's off the board (not that I expected him to slide all the way to our next pick).
  2. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) Anyone got a feel on the signing ability of Kyle McCulloch to a quick deal? I'd assume part of the reason the Sox are extra happy is that Texas was knocked out (big time upset) of the tourney over the weekend so we'll be able to get McCulloch in quickly (hopefully). Of course the team will be careful with him and will probably piggy back him once he comes in.
  3. White Sox Select Kyle McCulloch By Jason Gage FutureSox.com The Chicago White Sox happily waited till the 29th overall pick before selecting RHP Kyle McCulloch in the first round of the 2006 amateur draft. The draft was one short of shockers with the Royals selecting Luke Hochevar (1st overall) and the Tigers selecting Andrew Miller (top rated pitcher)...Click Here for the Rest of his scouting report
  4. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) 6. Kyle McCulloch, rhp (National rank: 16) School: Texas. Class: Jr. Hometown: Houston B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-3. Wt.: 185. Birthdate: 3/20/85. Scouting Report: McCulloch's stuff isn't as sexy as the pitchers ahead of him on this list, though he's a better bet to reach his ceiling as a No. 3 or 4 starter than most. "He's a safe pick," a regional crosschecker said. "You know he's a big leaguer. Maybe you get Brad Radke out of him." The Longhorns initially signed McCulloch as a shortstop out of Houston power Bellaire High, where he played both ways but first emerged as an infielder. He's a good athlete for a pitcher and quite consistent. McCulloch's velocity has been down a little this year, as his fastball has sat at 88-90 mph, compared to 89-92 in 2005, when he won the deciding game of the College World Series. His best pitch is his plus changeup, and both his curveball and solid are effective if not spectacular. Early in the spring, he struggled when he relied too heavily on his secondary stuff, but righted himself when he returned to working off his fastball. Besides winning at premier high school and college programs, McCulloch also has proven himself against top summer competition. He held his own as a reliever in the Cape Cod League in 2004 and tied for the Team USA college team lead with four victories in 2005. iirc....same school as chris young Ya, thats where Young went.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) When do the Sox pick next? Also, where is Wes Hodges supposed to be picked around? I've seen him play a lot at GT, and he's someone I think will become a MLB player. Hodges is a studly player and we hold the 29th pick of every round and I doubt Hodges is there. If he is, I'd put even money that we take him. Working on a nice writeup on McCulloch right now though so I'm gonna dissapear for a bit.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) We seem to have an affinity for this type of pitcher. So much for the power arm. We didn't have a power arm in our rotation last year and did just fine (well I guess contreras has a power arm).
  7. He's a clone of Broadway. A polished collegiate pitcher who throws in the low 90's. BA has compared him a bit to Brad Radke. Has an oustanding changeup and also throws a good curveball and slider. Seems to have pretty good secondary stuff and has only played against top competition.
  8. Kyle McCullough out of the University of Texas Was ranked as the 16th best prospect by BA
  9. Beato would really fit in here.
  10. Sox on the clock.
  11. Bard off the board
  12. One of Beato/Bard will be there when the Sox pick. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) I bet the Sox pick somebody under the radar, watch. Duh and we will all start cursing. Its how the draft works
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) Angels dont take him BoSox could use pitching and the Dodgers take Morris. Beato could go to the BoSox as could Bard and so could both since they are the two picks standing in our way.
  14. Angels nab a catcher: Heng Choi Conger Dodgers could take Bard or they could go with Morris.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) See if the Angels nab Bard here. Money is not an issue with the Angels, so my guess is they take Bard. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) damn. I was hoping Ian Kennedy might still be around for the Sox. We wouldn't have signed him. I like Kennedy more than most, but he has had a lot of issues this year (loss of velocity and a downright mediocre season). Mix that with Boras' demands and its totally a Yankee type pick, but not a wise one for the Sox.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Kennedy goes to the yanks. Before the year they'd have been thrilled if they were told they would nab Kennedy. But this is a bit of a reach.
  17. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Does anybody thing Daniel Bard could slip to the Sox? It would be sweet to let him work as a reliever for us down to stretch to save innings and bring him up in Sept. Lets not get too giddy, someone will snag him before us (think Anaheim). You also have UCLA's lefty who I'm quite high on. If he slides wowza.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) Just talked to my source, and he said Colvin was ranked the 130th best prospect in this draft. He also said Perez has some "make-up" problems also (and not in the cosmetic way). He's a boozer and has had weight issues.
  19. Sinkbeil goes at 19 to the Marlins. Pretty good collegiate pitcher out of Missouri State
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:19 AM) Any scouting report on him? Ya, he's a guy both Dan and I liked as a Sox pick. He's a little less toolsy version of Drew stubbs. Here's this from one of FutureSox's writeups: Tyler Colvin, OF, Clemson Season Stats (259 AB): .359, 22 2B, 12 HR, 65 RBI, 59 R, 27 BB, 39 K, 23 SB Colvin is a late riser in this year’s draft as he has been one of the hottest hitters in the college season down the stretch. He’s 14-35 (.400) in the ACC Tournament and NCAA Regional, both of which his Tigers won, and has a 23 game hitting streak going. He has no glaring weaknesses, but also no standout strengths. He is a solid player who should be a fast riser in the minors. He should be available when the Sox pick, but if the Sox pass on him he will probably fall in the supplemental round or early 2nd round.
  21. 14. Jays - Snider 15. Nats - Christopher Marrero 16. Brewers - Jeremy Jefress
  22. Holy s***, the Cubs took Colvin really early.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:15 AM) Scherzer to the dbacks. Makes a lot of sense. Dbacks are doing a lot of good things.
  24. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:14 AM) yeah Radio usually is just a giant conference call.
  25. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) No, MLB has the same guy doing all of the picks. Thats on the video version right?
