  1. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 29, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) Mizzou got in as the 4 seed in the Pepperdine region. They'll be headed to Cali for the 2nd straight year. Apparently the committee views Missouri as a western state because last year Mizzou was sent to Fullerton. This year Mizzou is sent to Malibu and St. Louis is sent to Fullerton. Go figure. Either way, it's time to f*** up some west coast baseball. Pepperdine has to face Scherzer in the regional opener, good luck with that lol. Pepperdine can hit, but I'd hate facing a heatlhy Scherzer. That alone gives Mizzu a shot.
  2. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 29, 2006 -> 10:21 AM) Go Iowa State. They got in? On a sidenote, I am UCLA in MVP (just brought out the Xbox during finals week for the first time in a while) and they are horrid. I have so much trouble and my only good players just got hurt.
  3. When does he leave the Hogs?
  4. QUOTE(SnB @ May 29, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) I've always been confused about the selection rules. I assume if you win your conference tourney, you're automatically in, right? And then the rest is just a selection comitee like basketball? Ya, I think thats how it happens. And there are also certain requirements to be a host (IIRC). Especially when it comes to Super Regionals. Jeff Smardzta (who will be a guy the Sox could look at) will be on ESPN after the break. Here are a list of the host cities: REGIONAL HOST CONFERENCE Alabama Southeastern Arkansas Southeastern Cal State Fullerton Big West Clemson Atlantic Coast Georgia Southeastern Georgia Tech Atlantic Coast Kentucky Southeastern Mississippi Southeastern Nebraska Big 12 North Carolina Atlantic Coast Oklahoma Big 12 Oregon State Pacific-10 Pepperdine West Coast Rice Conference USA Texas Big 12 Virginia Atlantic Coast
  5. Selection show on right now. Clemson was the top seed with Rice and Texas following them. Alabama at 4 and Fullerton as a 5th top seed. Also for those that don't know the format: Regionals - 4 teams play here and you can lose once (double elim) Super Regional - Best of 3 College World Series - Again you have a few teams here and its double elim College World Series Championship - Best of 3 Good news for Dan. If LBSU was going ot make it, I figured they would have been in the Fullerton or Pepperdine Regional. Sucks cause LBSU has a lot of talent, they just waited a while to turn it on.
  6. Just got back from seeing it and all I can say was dissapointing. Sure it was decent, but not near as good as the 2nd one and definately worse than the 1st (2nd was the best, imo). Now I guess the questions is if they have another one in store cause they left a lot of openings for a potential sequel. But bring back Bryan Singer.
  7. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 28, 2006 -> 09:01 PM) The conference tourneys ended today. The brackets come out tomorrow. Mizzou is right on the bubble. They lost to Kansas by giving up a run in the bottom of the 8th on an infield hit and 2 errors on groundballs. They probably needed that win to get in the tournament, but we'll see. I was looking forward to Scherzer mowing some team down in a regional opener to pull an upset. Either way I'm still excited for the playoffs. College baseball is a lot of fun when played well. Yep, tomorrow at 9:30 on ESPN (or ESPN 2) they will have the selection show. Fullerton just finished off a double header sweep of arch nemesis Long Beach State and our coach moved in as the 2nd winningest coach in conference history (our prior head coach is kicking ass at Texas). Also, I would love to see them move to wood bats but people always cite cost. I've long said MLB should just step up to the plate and pay for the costs of the bats because these guys playing with wood bats for 3-4 years will make them more prepared for the adjustments to the professional level and scouts will be able to better evaluate guys since they won't have to make assumptions of how they will handle wood bats. I will be hitting up one of the games this weekend, now its just a matter of seeing who Fullerton will be hosting.
  8. Damn, Garland had been doing so well too.
  9. Fullerton, ranked #2 in the country, clinched the league title on Friday. Saturday's game was cancelled because of a light tower catching fire just before the game (odd eh). This week and weekend will be a great time for people to catch out the conference tourneys and see some of the collegiate level's best. I know I remember Josh Fields standing up for OSU a couple years back in the Big 12 tourney.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 27, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) Does Heath project in the majors? You really dont hear much about Phillips, yet he is having a great season.... I could definately see him in the majors. He is still working on improving his command. Like Buehrle he has no amazing pitches, but quite a few good ones, but he doesn't have the command Buehrle has and to be successful he will need exactly that. One other thing thats battled Heath is he did have some trouble being prepared for the start of the seasons. It seems this year that has been corrected. I know the Sox had to have him in extended spring (I think it was last year) so he could work his way into shape.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 28, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) McCarthy grew up a Sox fan? Frank Thomas was his favorite player growing up. He completely idolized him. As far as Bmac goes, I really wish the team had another reliever or two (that was legit) so we could send Brandon to Charlotte and get him in a groove. Right now he's off just a bit and he has been really for the whole year (aside from his hot start, which really came out of nowhere judging by the way he pitched during spring). Get him to Charlotte, let him start for a month to a month and a half there (build up his stamina) and than he should be able to get his kinks fixed and be effective for us for the latter half of the season out of the pen. RIght now I think he's totally lost and he's not able to get any consistent work to correct himself. I really would have no problem with Mac and Anderson going back for 4-6 weeks. In Mac's case we would need to trade for 2 quality relievers.
  12. Anderson wasn't ready as a hitter. Anyone that saw him up late last year and for a large part of spring new that. His mental set at the plate isn't condusive to a good AB. However, I think he will be able to learn and improve his mental approach at the major league level. At this point I have no problem keeping him up because I think the best way to learn that mental part would be at the major league level. Unless of course Walker can give him a few tips and send him down so he can relax and work on them (I'd like Walker to be on the phone with him trying to help out and give pointers even when he's in Charlotte). Than after those adjustments are made and he gets comfortable in AAA bring him back up. His defense is too good not to have, especially since with Mack as our starting CF, we will need a defensive replacement. However, if Ozzie doesn't plan on playing Brian (just like we fail to use Brandon) they both should be in AAA getting in a groove.
  13. Going to go see it tomorrow afternoon, so I won't read this thread till than (just in case).
  14. We got robbed. Hill never tagged Dye with the ball. This was like Escobar tagging AJ with the glove (no ball in it). Too bad no one saw it and argued.
  15. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 26, 2006 -> 12:59 AM) Where's the BMac comparison? His strikeout numbers are way lower and walk numbers way higher. I think Russell is a solid pitcher, but he needs to start going deeper into games before I will consider him a solid prospect. Don't have my notes in front of me, but Russel has a pretty good FB right?
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 26, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) Sierra finally had a damn good outing tonight. 2IP, 1H and 6K's. ERA is at 5.40 now from 8.1IP for the Barons. Maybe he's finally turned the corner. We know he has the "stuff"

QUOTE(SnB @ May 25, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) Jas is offically old now. Are you watching everybody loves raymond yet? Nah, its on best my bed time and the reruns coincide with my early bird dinner special.
  18. Harrel is incredibly under-rated. I remember a few scouts mentioning he was one of the top sleepers when we nabbed him in the draft.

Gracias fellas....its insanely weird right now. I can not wait to sleep in and than play speed golf on Sunday with some buddies (instead of walking). Than Vegas on Thursday

Just finished up my last final...now I wait for my buddies to go out and to celebrate. It really hasn't sunk in, but its going to be really damn nice getting to sleep in tomorrow. After all this school, I'm sure I'll be in for a shock when I start my career in September.
  21. This list is freaking terrible. Also, Heads, look 1 play ahead of that one..thats right IOWA over LSU
  22. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 25, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) Her father is Charles Widmore of Widmore Construction. He is a mjor investor in the Hanso Corporation and his company built the Darma stations plus other things throught the season. http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Widmore Ahh..it all makes more sense. That was the 2 minute part (when he was talking to Desmond) that I was in the other room printing something out for school. Thats actually an awesome tie in and I bet she knows something about the project and for all we know a rescue team may show up on the island; of course I don't see them getting off anytime soon (I think this goes on for a few more seasons) but they got me hooked.
  23. QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 25, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) So... is it worth it to go rent these? I have (finally) started catching up on 24. I love that show, too. ITS infinitely greater than 24 and I'm a big fan of 24. In fact, for those of you that want, I think all of the 2nd season is currently available to download (for free) on abc.com QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 25, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) The guy in the hatch, who rescued Desmond was the same guy who gave Sayid the box of tools to torture the Iraqi officer so that the US Army could find the pilot who had crashed. Lost is the best show on tv, and if you are interested you can download the episodes from season 2 for free, but the commercials are embedded I believe. As to the episode, finally some one looked at those computer print outs. I have been complaining about that since the time that they went into the Pearl. Prior to that episode Locke wanted to know if Henry Gale had typed the right number in, yet he never went through the print sheets to find out. The last episode had some interesting thoughts: 1) It is clear that the magnetism f***s up compasses. This is reinforced when Henry Gale tells Michael exactly what path to follow. It also makes Desmond's "I went straight (east or west cant remember)" and returning back to the island make sense. Since the compass will be effected it is useless as a navigational tool. 2) The statute and the rock formations. Maybe its just me, but when I saw that statute I thought "Clossus of Rhodes" and then when I saw the rocks I thought "Stonehenge". This led me to start wondering if this island in some way is supposed to represent the lost city of Atlantis. The four toes was interesting, but I think Cyclops in greek myth have the 4 toes. 3) Every time a character dies, the plot reveals something that if they had been alive would have blown the mysteries wide open. Libby dies right before Desmond comes back in her ship. If she was alive, it would have set off a huge domino affect of people starting to see connections. The second is Anna Lucia, who it turns out knew Jacks father and brought Jacks father to the bar where he met Sawyer. Since Anna is dead, she cant have that conversation with Sawyer where they begin to realize that something besides chance is at work here. I definitely thought the finally was satisfying. If they gave all the answers what would be in store for season 3. As of now I think Michael and Walt will turn their backs on freedom, return to the camp and next season will be about trying to get Sawyer, Jack, and Kate back. The whole story line about Walt being special has not at all been fleshed out, which makes me believe that he may be back. I think Jack had a plan that they would be captured (my guess is there is something we don't know) because they all looked at each other as if to signal something and that Michael will take the boat to the other side and more stuff will happen. I was curious as to how the f*** the mangetic station was able to call Desmond's old girlfriend (how did she know to look for magnetism???). Lots of stuff left to be answered, but a lot of new stuff came up as well. Just an oustanding finale and I can't wait for the next season. I do wonder if we will ever know everything (even when the series eventually ends) cause I could see a lot of people saying how stupid it is when its all over (kind of like the matrix).
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 25, 2006 -> 07:49 AM) In 2/3 of an inning he managed to give up 3 runs, make 2 errors, Give up 1 hit, walk one batter and hit another batter. His ERA stands at 27.00. Sadly, I am not making this up Charlotte ended up losing 8-7. Fields went 2/5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI Rogo went 3/5, 2 RBI Redding gave up 4 runs, 10 hits in 5 innings, but had 9 K's. linky At least he's consistent
