LOST! finale SPOILERS ARE INCLUDED, BE WARNED!
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) Anyone else watch this show??? The finale was incredible and finally started to give more backround info on the last two seasons along with lots of the side characters. I can't wait until the next season, I am so addicted to this show. I stopped studying for finals to watch the seaon finale. It once again showed why it is hands down the best show on TV. The past few episodes had been amazing and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the season finale appeared and WOW is all I can say. I never saw the first few episodes of Lost, but I'm glad I got in after watching one of those recap shows during the 1st season. Its an awesome show (Way better than Soprano's).

Rest of Season Sold out?
If the Cubs stay as bad as I think they will be this year, I would not be shocked if the Sox ended up being very close to outdrawing the Cubs. In the end I don't think we'd out draw them (until we add in the post-season games). However, another piss poor season by the Cubs mixed in with a strong season by the Sox (and the Sox have to do this if they want to compete for the market) and you will see a major influx and a really frustrated Cubs base with the Sox outdrawing the Cubs the following year (potentially).

Orlando Hernandez to the Mets
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 24, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) That's why I don't like this trade for Arizona. They're in first right now, and have a great chance to contend in that NLW. I don't know if Julio will prove to be more valuable than Duque. Ask about that in a month when Julio is not on the disabled list and Hernandez is out for the year.

Corey Patterson
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 24, 2006 -> 05:01 AM) I disagree with this. Corey Patterson has amazing makeup speed which allows him to correct fielding mistakes he is making as he is making them. He rarely gets good jumps on balls, and when they are hit straight at him he freezes a lot. Brian Anderson is much better defensively right now(as far as I have seen) then Patterson has ever been in his career. THat isnt to say that Patterson can become a better player, because the guy has all the tools(as reported extensively by the Cubs), but right now I think BA is the superior fielder. Offensively, hands down Patterson is better. That is a very good assessment of Patterson's defense. Patterson is a below avg defensive cf. He has insane range and a strong arm for a CF, but he gets horrid jumps and has trouble making good catches on the run. I'm not saying he doesn't have the talent to be a very good CF, but he hasn't exactly made strides defensively since reaching the majors. BA is head and shoulders one of the premier defensive centerfielders in just his rookie season. If he could hit .250 (and I think in time, with patience he'll turn into a .270ish hitter a year or two down the road) he will be very very important. His upside is TORRI HUNTER (mediocre offense with some pop and good speed, exceptional defense).

That Short Outage and Error
A while back we upgraded the site to the latest version of invision and we told you we had one final step left to do. That was done over the past 15 minutes and we should be able to get the search feature back online in the next week (if all goes well) by implementing an indexing feature (no down time for this). The site is now running on a very up to date server, using up to date versions of MYSQL, PHP, and Invision.

New Banner Format
We are going to be implementing a new banner format. Deploder is the man that came up with the idea and he's putting in all the hard work, but a new banner will be up for each day's matchup with the opposing pitchers. Hopefully you all like this and it will be a real easy reminder for you guys on whose pitching So 3 cheers for Deploder

Thome Tweaks Groin
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) I put in the winner thread, and I said he needs to sit tomorrow. We won the series, put Gload or Mack at DH, give Jimbo the day off. No need to screw around with him. Put Mack at DH and let Anderson roam CF.

Hot Or Not: May 24th
Hot Or Not: May 24th By Tyler James Tyler James is back after a week layoff, ready to deliver the Sox hot or not list. After struggling two weeks ago, the Sox managed to recover from a rough series against the Devil Rays, by taking 2 of 3 from the lowly Cubs. Despite a mediocre record (by Sox standards) the pitching staff and team made great strides from 2 weeks ago's losing week. HITTER OF THE WEEK- A.J. PIERZYNSKI After layin’ the smack down on not only Michael Barrett but opposing pitchers last week, A.J. earns the honors. Now providing as much power as Dye and Konerko, A.J. hit for a high average and as always was in the middle of more controversy. Stats for Week- .412 AVG/ .500 OBP/ 7 H/ 2 2B/ 5 R/ 1 HR/ 3 BB/ 1 TKO PITCHER OF THE WEEK- FREDDY GARCIA Freddy Garcia pitched brilliantly in both of his games this week. It seems that whenever a pitcher pitches twice in a week, they step up and raise their game. Freddy shut down the both the Cubs and Twins. Freddy hasn’t thrown with his old velocity, but his movement still is tricky and baffles hitters. PITCHING PERFORMANCE- MARK BUEHRLE Mark Buehrle shut the mouths of all Cubs fans in his complete game on Friday. Buehrle was nearly unhittable and only allowed two hits. Buehrle returned to his form after the horrible 1st inning against the Twins last Sunday. SUB OF THE WEEK- ROB MACKOWIAK Rob got a full week of play in this week and stepped up big time. In Monday’s game he hit the game tying pinch-hit homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning off of A’s closer Huston Street. Known as a Cub-killer with the Pirates, he again hit the Cubs well. He is a good fill in while Anderson continues to struggle. NOT HE GONE- BOONE LOGAN Finally!!! I have been awaiting this moment for quite some time now. As most of you know, or should know, Logan was sent down for Agustin Montero and now Jeff Nelson. Logan pitched very inconsistently. He would sometimes look untouchable and then next thing and then he would start walking people and getting hit all over the ballpark. He showed some potential and is a very raw pitcher. Some time in Triple A will serve him well. GRAB SOME BENCH??-JUAN URIBE Uribe had another cold week hitting under the Mendoza line. Uribe is one of those players, who when he is off, he is off terribly. He looks terrible at the plate and reverts back to the wild swinger he was in Colorado. Look for Cintron to step in, as he has proved himself as a viable option at shortstop. HITLESS WONDER- BRIAN ANDERSON Although he did not play the full slate of games, Anderson was held hitless. I love the kid’s enthusiasm, but he just can’t hit. Hopefully he can turn it around by the All-Star Break. If not, a call-up for Sweeney could be in the future. Maybe the brawl and putting Mabry in the hospital will in someway improve his approach at the plate.

I need a new jersey
I love AJ, but you can almost never go wrong with a classic like Ventura. Of course I'm a huge AJ fan and that would be a pretty sweet jersey too.

Rest of Season Sold out?
I'm in the process of heading in during early July and looking up tickets there are pretty much no lowers for some of the games in the Bmore series and obviously Boston is sold out.

Soxtalk Question
Ya, we are going to work on getting a few more people involved in our updating process. Boz has been awesome as of late and Greasy is now being taught the ways from Boz. We also have had some great commentaries from Alex and Mike as well as scooped a story or two. In the future we will start having some short series previews as a way for people to keep up with things and we will also start linking people to yahoo recaps. That way Soxtalk can really be a place you can come and find all the news (a recap to see what happened...written by the AP, a preview by us talking about the other team...updated standings on the front page...plus original commentaries and the ocassional breaking news story).

SportsNation Biggest Blunders from Neyer
QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) 13) What is the biggest blunder in White Sox franchise history? 1917: Sox replace first baseman Jacques Fournier with Chick Gandil. Gandil was the lesser player and the Black Sox ringleader. 1959-1960: Bill Veeck trades prospects for veterans. Off went Norm Cash, Johnny Callison, and others, and away went three or four pennants. 1981: Letting broadcaster Harry Caray get away. Cubs win! Sox lose! 1985: Hiring broadcaster Hawk Harrelson as general manager. In just one season, Harrelson managed to turn Carlton Fisk into a left fielder AND fire Tony La Russa. 1992: Trading Sammy Sosa to Cubs for George Bell. Must anything else be said? Got some more to add?..... The only one that pops into my head at the moment is Kip Wells, Josh Fogg and Lowe for Todd Ritchie :puke Technically speaking, Wells had about 2 solid seasons and none of the other guys in that deal ever did anything (fogg had about 1-2 solid seasons as well).

Raines...
The original reason gave here was because Baines wanted more face time since this was going to be his final year with the Sox (either he was going to retire or try and find a better coaching gig). However, he just signed an extension so I honestly have no idea why Baines is out there now. Raines was a better baserunner and is far more knowledgable when it comes to that aspect of the game, so I figure he'd be the better base coach.

Dodgers Surging in the West
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) I could be completely wrong about this but it seems like Kotchman has had quite a few chances and hasn't been able to hit at the major league level. Once again, I'm really not sure if that's completely right but it just seems like he's had a lot of chances. Help me out here jas. Thats the case. Koctchman has been given numerous opportunities and has failed. He isn't bad defensively nor is he great. However, I'm comparing him to Erstad who is the best defensive 1st baseman in the game. Haven't seen near enough of Morales (only saw him in Spring) so I couldn't tell you about Morales defense, but his bat is impressive and that is what the Angels need. I was expecting Kochman to turn things around this year, but I think he needs a change of scenery.

Dodgers Surging in the West
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Ya, the move that killed that team was Bengie. You don't let a catcher like him walk. Not only is he a great clutch hitter and hell he was just one of their best hitters period last year, but he calls one of the best games in the al and is just a great defensive catcher. The Angels f***ed up badly this offseason and they're paying for it. I don't know if he calls a good game, but as far as the rest of it, I completely agree. Bill Stoneman doesn't have the balls to be a GM. He would make a hell of a player development guy (minor league guru). He is trying to build the org like Schurholtz (spelling???) of Atlanta. He feels the reason why the Braves have had success all these years is because they haven't been afraid to develop players while in the midst of contending. The key is to develop a few players at once though. That and make sure when you are developing players you have a good core around them (the Angels have jack s*** at pretty much all of there positions). And this is a major peeve of mine since I was about the only person ripping Stoneman the past few years all while defending Kenny for a long time. This is because I don't think a GM can succeed when he's afraid of his own shadow (SEE DAN EVANS). You need balls to win this job. You need to be able to make a move and not worry what the fans think (just be confident in your own and your baseball people's decision). Kenny got bit often, but the logic behind his moves was always there. Eventually he got things right and learned from some of his mistakes (ie not focusing enough on character...see Royce the Choice and b focusing too much on power, although I think some people overhype the fact that we are a speed team; we have speed and a way to create, but more importantly we are a far less selfish team and one that is much more willing to execute and do the little things than the Jerry Manuel teams). That and one hell of a pitching staff (which he was able to get by sacrificing a bit of offense and freeing up some payroll).
