  1. I will say one thing, if Aaron is really on the block, I have absolutely no doubt that Kenny would go out and try to get him. Kenny knows CF is a potential hole and he knows that Aaron would not only fit in the clubhouse, but he'd immediately fit in the field (his defense would work) and he would give a little offense as opposed to BA. However, I don't think Aaron is on the block just yet. But it seems like Philly papers think the Phils are already out of the race, so maybe the Phils are stupid and ready to make a knee jerk move.
  2. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 06:51 AM) I have been saying all along that the Indians bother me more than Detroit. My friends out here in NY think I'm insane...but here are a few reasons why: 1. Look at our record vs. Cleveland comapred with detroit 2. Cleveland hasn't gotten hot like last year, whereas Detroit already has had a hot run (doesn't mean they can't have more). 3. This is the big one for me... Det vs. AL's elite... 1-3 vs. NYY (This would've been 0-4 in all likelihood if Mo Rivera wasn't hurt (Farns blew a game). 1-2 vs. Bos 0-5 vs. White Sox (to date). Thoughts? Cleveland was the most over-rated team in baseball entering the year (I said it than and I'll say it again now) while the Tigers were one of the most under-rated teams. Are the Tigers this good, NO, are the Indians as bad as there record indicates (Which isn't horrid by all means) probably not, but they really aren't much more than a .500. But no one is going to tell me the Indians are a good team. They have a mediocre rotation and a mediocre bullpen with an over-rated offense. The offense is good, but I have yet to see that offense play consistent over a full season (although they are ranked #2 right now). So lets see, the offense is playing great, the pitching is basically what it should be (considering how much they downgraded there pen and rotation last off-season with the losses of Elarton and Millwood as well as Howry and the guy they gave up for Michaels). Oh and did I mention they are a pathetic ass defensive team and are a horrid team on the base paths (every game I watch of the Tribe all I hear the announcers do is whine about how often they get thrown out making stupid baserunning plays. This tribe team isn't much more than an 85 win team (which isn't bad, nor is it good enough to win the division or the wild card). As far as the Tigers are concerned, they have a solid offense (there offense is as good as the Tribes) while there pitching staff is better (however they are counting on younger pitchers as well as guys like Maroth and Robertson who are pitching a bit over there heads; obviously Maroth is on the DL). The Tigers pen is also mediocre, but has managed to do its job up until last night.

    QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) And a freakishly large pic of Manos
  4. I backed Garland....now Jon, go make me and TRU and Murcie proud and start kicking ass again (1 game at a time).
  5. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) Or you let Javier Vazquez, who owned him last night, face him, instead of playing by the matchup. Oh, forgive me, I'm second guessing! I can't second guess, but if we lose one game by protecting Vazquez from throwing a ridiculous amount of pitches it doesn't bother me. However, in general Vazquez is a freaking machine against LHP for some reason.

QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Link please. I can see Iguchi near the top of the league in productive outs, but not Uribe. The argument that the Sox are a defensive team first is poor. If Cintron's offense helps the team more than Uribe's defense, Cintron should be the starter. Of course that's hard to compare, but became quite easy to evaluate over the past week. You say Uribe shouldn't be unseated because of Cintron's few points in batting average but do not mention Cintron's two game-winning hits in the past week. My opinion of Uribe is not just based on numbers. His batting approach is frustrating as s***. He doesn't work a count, draw walks or have a plan at the plate. He's still trying to "get off the island." Last season Uribe was very good at getting the sac fly and making productive outs. Obviously this year that hasn't been the case as he's been flailing so far out in front of every stinking pitch thrown to him. His approach at the plate is worse than Anderson's and that says something. At least Anderson has the excuse of being a rookie. Uribe really needs to get that leg tap/kick back because it was the timing mechanism that helped him stay back on the ball. We need Juan to get things figured out because even when he's a mediocre hitter (which he's not donig right now), he's one of the premier defensive ss's in the league (although lately it seems his mind has been on his funk). We don't have anything else that can be an everyday starting SS (Cintron isn't good enough defensively to play everyday, imo, at least not on a world series caliber team).
  7. QUOTE(henry wiggins @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 07:30 AM) I agree with you. I just read the morning papers, the news that Anderson is the regular center fielder was mentioned but not as prominently as I would have liked, given that Ozzie's little "he's our guy, now shut up" speech opened his post-game press conference last night. Freaking news media -- they roast BA on a spit for weeks on end, to fill up the space they can't fill with intelligent analysis, and then when the club says "Okay, nothing to see here, move along" they just shrug. When I heard Ozzie say it last night, I thought that this is huge for Anderson. This takes a LOT of the pressure off him -- not the pressure of the batting slump, which of course he does have still, but the pressure of "is he a minor-leaguer playing above his level." For Ozzie and KW to say "he's a major leaguer and he's the starting CF'er on our world championship club" seems enormous. I am also struck by Anderson's class when dealing with the media. He is still making jokes about stuff that has to have gotten beyond annoying for him. Good style for the kid. One of the most impressive things about BA is how he's been able to ignore his offensive struggles and still go out and play amazing defense. I don't think you'd find 1 in 100 youngsters that would be able to go out and play the type of defense he has (with consistency too) considering all of his offensive struggles. He's managed to be a complete veteran (hell a lot of vets couldn't do that) when it comes to forgetting about the bat once he's on defense. Also, I do think having Ozzie go out and say he's my guy will alleviate the pressure. BA had to have been feeling more pressure when he was getting thrown out there every once in a while with Mack there and obviously he was hearing it from everyone (not that he should listen). With Ozzie giving his endorsement, he'll be able to ignore the naysayers (knowing that his mgr still has full confidence in him) and keep doing the same defensively and hopefully make some strides at the plate. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 07:31 AM) I will say this again and again with one of the worst leftfielders in baseball Brian Anderson needs to be in centerfield every day. His hitting does not cost us, that is why the other guys in the lineup are making about 4 times more than he is. Seriously, Podsednik is freaking terrible. If he can't hit and steal bases, he is absolutely worthless and its leading me to believe we may just see Josh Fields out there in a year or two with us picking up a new shortstop somewhere in between that can become our leadoff hitter (if Juan continues to stink this year).
  8. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 07:26 AM) I went to the game last night and I usually don't pay all that much attention to Anderson. But last night, I just saw a sign of Rowand and that Anderson (contrary to my previous belief) actually gives a s***. I think that if he can keep battling and working with Walker then all the kinks would be worked out and he shouldn't go to AAA. Question; what pitch does he keep trying to hit that he can't? What does he have trouble with location wise? Just curious so I can watch for it. Down and away.
  9. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) That was typical Mizzou baseball before the last few weeks of the season. Offense blows and can't execute RISP. Jamieson left his starter in too long and the bullpen blows. Yeah, that's about right. f***ing hell. There is no way Mizzou should have lost that game. It should have been 4-0 early on without Mizzou adding any hits. Scherzer leaves during the 7th before the 2nd run scores and Wendte comes in (Mizzou's best reliever, Parker is garbage) and locks it down maybe letting in the 2nd run at most. Your manager is freaking terrible or at least was tonight. Leaving in Scherzer when he was openly pissed off about being out there (it looked like they had to pretty much convince him to throw more pitches) to face a lefty (when you guys had a left in the pen) and than Scherzer gives up another hit, they pull him (he quickly walks off the mound) and they bring in the lefty to face a righty and the flood gates were opened. We could have scored a few more runs. In all defense to one of your guys innings (where you stranded a bunch of runners) Roemer gave up two dink hits and than we had an error, of course most of your guys hits were frozen ropes and I have no idea how he was able to pitch around them (early on in the game). Your relievers looked like garbage (that said you may not have had your best guys in and I think you alluded to that) and Scherzer right now appears to be a 5-6 inning pitcher (although he's dominate during that time). That said you guys have Culp going tomorrow and he should give you at least a shot at sending this game to Sunday . We'll have Gagnier on the bump.
  10. QUOTE(Wolverine31 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:51 PM) Well the Tigers were leading the Jays 5-2 with 1 out in the 8th and then Fernando Rodney and Todd Jones allowed 8 consecutive batters to reach for a final score of Jays 10, Tigers 5. This had to be the worst loss of the season; a complete bullpen implosion. I wonder if Leyland will finally take Todd Jones out of the closers role now. I don't know how much more it will take; he's cost us 4 games this season, his ERA is 7.29, batters are hitting almost .400 off of him, he can't strike anyone out. He's not even a major league pitcher let alone a closer. What a joke. This could be a really rough loss. I've long said the thing that seperates the Tigers from the Sox (besides a more veteran filled rotation) is the back of the pen where the Sox throw out Jenks and the Tigers throw out old man Jones. QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:01 PM) That whole inning was a joke. One question too for you Wolverine. You want Rodney as a closer now? I sure don't. Why not Zumaya? Does Leyland not have faith in putting the youngster out as a closer. All he's got to do is look at what the defending world champs did with a rookie closer. Zumaya has the stuff and potential, so why not run him out there (unless he is thinking about moving Zumaya into the rotation in place of Maroth; assuming Colon or whoever replaces him continues to struggle).
  11. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) I watched pretty much that whole game, and he was throwing in the mid-90's the first inning or two. He had some control problems, and it looked like his velocity dropped after that. Mid 90's, maybe your gun was different but it got as high as 92 all game. However, it should be noted that Bama's pitcher was as high as 85 and he throws in the upper 80's to low 90's so my guess is the gun was off a bit. His offspeed stuff was great though. Fullerton defeats Scherzer and Mizzu in game 1. Scherzer was absolutely amazing for the 1st 5 innings (took a perfect game into there). Was up 0-2 1-2 all game, but eventually he wore down and at one point he was looking to his coach after every pitch to get out. The Titans jumped on him, got some runs and than really teed off on the Tigers pen. Sad thing was Scherzer could have ran away with this game as the Tigers had about 9 hits in the first 3-4 innings off Roemer (who was really bad early on and than like most great pitchers do when a team fails to take advantage, he shut em down the rest of the way). But boy oh boy was I impressed with Max. Problem is I think he's going to have some injury issues in his career. You can tell he's still hurt and right now he isn't in the shape to go deep into games (or so it would appear).
  12. Can't we all just get along I love that line
  13. QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) Ozzie said in the post game interview that BA is going no where and he will be the regulr center fielder. I hope BA can get on track and we can put this behind us for the rest of the season. He must have read Soxtalk QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) Reifert says holla: http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/inside_th.../mr_clutch.html Hey Greasy...do you think it was me or you that said that? QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) I wish he would just get a couple of hits a week. Man, he is so bad offensively. You'd think he'd just run into one every once in a while. I am definitely glad for his defense, though. But, remember when a lot of us thought he could hit 15-20 homers this year? Ha, were we ever off. Just stick with me, I was the one laughing at some of the predictions you all had. Its been known a long time that Anderson had some flaws in his swing that were going to lead to some trouble eventually (personally speaking for a long time he was proving me wrong and I wish he kept doing so; I'm referring to how quickly he'd respond to a promotion) but in teh end it caught up with him and now he's going to have to work hard offensively to get those holes fixed and have a better approach. I do think he's capable, but he's the type of player who will take a little time to come through offensively. However, we could see him have a hot streak at some point this season where we can see a glimpse of the future offensively solid BA.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) I still don't get that damn WCIU HD channel though I did get ESPN2HD today which was awesome for World Cup action. Oh snap, maybe my cable provider picked up ESPN2HD as well. Gonna have to check that out.
  15. I hadn't looked at the thread yet today and was looking at the box scores and Nanita caught my eye. I know he had some funks after his initial season (where he killed the ball) but he seems to be doing pretty well and was a solid athlete.
  16. Its official Dan: Roemer will face Missouri's Max Schurzer tonight at 7 p.m. in the opening game of the 2006 Super Regional at Goodwin Field. Gonna be a great booth on ESPN: Karros will be there and apparently Robin Ventura may very well be there for Sat and Sunday's games. "For the second year in a row, Cal State Fullerton will also be hosting ESPN as they broadcast the entire Fullerton Super Regional live on ESPN2 and/or ESPNU. Follow all the action from home as Dan Pasch and former Los Angeles Dodger/UCLA Bruin, Eric Karros bring you all the action from Goodwin Field. Another former Dodger and former Oklahoma State standout Robin Ventura may join the booth on Saturday night bringing additional color to the broadcast."
  17. BA cracks me up. Miller looks like he's found his control, but I've yet to see him throw a FB over 91 MPH. His slider is filthy though (got does it have some left to right break to it). Not saying Miller isn't really good, just laughing at how he is "supposed" to throw in the upper 90's. That said I understand velocity is often lower in the CWS because the pitchers are tired and are often worked a little harder than they are used to. The gun could also be a couple ticks off. Miller looks like he's gotten settled in though (had control problems in the 1st).
  18. Congrats CC
  19. Sweet game about to start here with Miller starting for UNC and he'll be going against Lablanc of Bama (another very good pitcher). Bard will pitch tomorrow. UNC has the type of rotation that could flat out dominate the playoffs and lead them to a national championship.
  20. One of the best bunters in the collegiate game (Bradshaw) drops a bunt for a single and now you have runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. A single may tie this game, double will probalby score it and the 3rd and 4th hitters are due up. Wow, Old Roberts shortstop made a tremendous play to keep the ball in the infield, but couldn't get an out (did save the tie for now). However, bases juiced with 1 out now for Clemson. 7-6 ORU The Cubs 1st round pick, Tyler Colvin, is now up at the plate. Very good hitter and he just won the game with a walkoff grandslam. WOWZA, awesome game.
  21. Clemson looked like they were going to Beat Oral Roberts, but in the 9th inning with 2 outs Roberts got a rally going and tied the game and has now taken the lead. Clemson needs a run in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extra's. Been a great game.
  22. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) AZ asked about him not long ago and the package they wanted was something like this, Steven Drew + Micah Owings and Miguel Montero which is to step of a price to pay Ridiculous. I wouldn't deal Steven Drew for many guys and I'm a fan of Owings (They got him for a good value in the draft).

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) Yeah, I think for that trade to be fair, we'd have to take Cameron (without SD picking up any of his salary) and Carillo for Fields. Carillo probably wouldn't do us much good this year. He was recently promoted to AAA, but when he was promoted, his AA stats were worse than Broadway's (and they played in the same league. Actually, come to think of it, I actually think Carillo could be the type of guy that could help out a ML pen relatively quickly. He has a nice FB and IIRC a pretty good slider which is typically a good fit in the pen. Maybe we can flip a guy like Fields for a CF and a prospect who could help out our pen. Sure its a bit more of a risk, but in a years time the Sox always have the option of flipping that prospect like Carillo for someone else. We couldn't do that if we got a mediocre reliever (I would not deal a top prospect for an average reliever). Broadway isn't the type of guy that I could see making a big impact in the pen, but in time we could see the Sox look to a guy like Lummy down the stretch (and obviously in September) as well as Tracey (who we now have up). I'm typically a fan of using more power arms in the pen (even though I could care less if a starter throws really hard, but with starters I look a lot more at there secondary pitches and with relievers all I care is if they have one other pitch that they can throw for a strike to go with the FB).
  25. QUOTE(brewerbacker @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Brad Lidge 2006? Or Brad Lidge 2005? Thanks, that's what I had thought too when I heard others McCarthy that idea. It would have been like you guys trading Ben Sheets for Brady Clark (if he played for another team). And no, McCarthy isn't the type of prospect Ben Sheets was, but he's still a damn good one who has had success at the major league level. McCarthy ranks just below Liriano and Felix Hernandez and even with a few other guys that are currently pitching at the major league level.
