  2. Sean Tracey come on down (or so I hope) but it could be Farnsworth or Javier Lopez.

  4. 22nd Round • Kanekoa Texeira, RHP - Drafted in the 22nd round out of Saddleback Community College, Texeria displayed some potential out of high school, but slipped in the draft (Selected by the Brewers in the 31st round) due to a loss of velocity late in his senior season. When at his best, Texeira could rare back and throw 92-93 MPH. 23. Brandon Villalobos, lhp, Chaffey College (CA)
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) Is that 3 catchers in the first 20 rounds? This guy is good, but is a very tough sign as he's a draft eligible sophmore: 20. Wade Kapteyn, RHP, Illiana Christian High School (IL) This guy was a top 2 or 3 round pick so our first picks of day two are tough signing, potentially high impact guys. 21. Matthew Inouye, C, University of Hawaii
  6. Day 2 has begun and the 19th round is underway 19. Jeffrey Dunbar - C - University of Riverside
  7. Sweet stuff.
  8. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Jason, you sure it was an offensive league? Tampa's pitchers have alot of low era's. I didn't check other teams stats though. IIRC DII was pretty offensive, althoug he plays in the top DII league as well (Sunshine league or something like that). Andrew Urena in RD 11 (RHP out of Mercer). I am heading off, so I'll update a lot of stuff later on tonight/early tomorrow AM prior to the draft. Alex and Dan will probably be updating stuff on FS as well.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) Watching the MLB.com video, yeah I would say a young Ortiz is a good comparison. I have no insight into his plate approach, but he appeared patient, waiting to hit his pitch as hard as possible. He smashed one foul in the video that made me say WOah! A butcher in the field...but the kid can RAKE. FS Stuff on last two picks: Lee Cruz...OF...Univ of Tampa Bay
  10. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) How does this guy compare to Lance Broadway? Broadway had an awesome spike curve....McCulloch has an awesome changeup as well as a good curve, solid fastball, and a solid slider and he can throw all of them for strikes.
  11. From FutureSox (slowly catching back up)
  12. Justin Cassell...a kid out of UC IRVINE (where I live). Sean Tracey went to UCI as well.
  13. missed 05 w/injury
  14. He's a total sidearm pitcher.
  15. Sox drafted Brian Omogrosso, RHP from Indiana State University (6'4" 230 pounds) Eating lunch so I'll get a writeup a little slower this go round.
  16. I really really like this pick. FutureSox QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) Getz is the "safer" pick in that he's a plus defender at second, with the possibilty to fill in at short, and has extremely good strike zone control. Shelby has a higher upside with his power and speed, but has obvious holes in his swing which could prevent him from ever reaching the bigs. He reminds me a lot of Todd Walker or Adam Kennedy.
  17. A 2nd baseman out of Kentucky with some speed and pop.
  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) 1)Arm was overrated. He called a ton of pitchouts to get the basestealer out. 2)I haven't heard much about Reeves' speed, is he slow? 3)13 HR's is good for a catcher. How many catchers currently hit 20HR's in the league? I will venture to say it's less than half. 4)Top ten catching prospect, meh it's debatable. Just cause he hit 13 Hr's doesn't mean he'll hit 20 in the majors. Olivo had an absolute cannon (nothing was over-rated about his arm).
  19. Cubs take Smardtza
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) I don't think Tyler Reeves is bad. Give me a guy who could hit .300 with 13 hr's anyday. He sounds like an AJ Pierzynski clone. Anyone know how good of a game he calls? From what I've gathered, very raw behind the plate, but possesses a terrific arm and is considered a good athlete for a catcher.
  21. QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) My first response is eww. Stats are nothing special. Bill Long pops into my mind for some reason. His splits are a lot better (once he worked out his kinks). Last year had an ERA under 3 and really really has impressive secondardy pitches.
  22. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) Tyler Reeves was not one of the top 100 prospects in the entire state of Texas. Definately a reach, but someone on the Sox must have loved him. 13 HR's and a .300 AVG
  23. Cards take Degerman out of Rice right behind us. Really good pick by the Cards.
