Angled Seats .......... How does everyone feel about them?
There is no way they can change the angle of the seats without completely overhauling the concrete aisle set ups (like someone else said). Considering its a baseball only stadium I'd have assumed the seats would already be angled (I think they are in some places in the stadium, correct?). So my guess is there is a reason they couldn't do so in this certain section. On a sidenote, one major flaw of Petco is the fact that from the UD (most of the seats don't get a full line of vision).

Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) I have said this a bunch of times before. To play a powerful offense like the Czechs you need to attack them. You need to make them run and play defense. But when I saw that our defense included someone who cant play D, a geriatric player who was getting shown up by Crap in qualifying. Why is EJ who scored a lot of our goals in qualifying on the bench. Why is Bocanegra who plays back for Fulham FC sitting on the bench. And its nice to see the primadona Donovan getting shown up on international level again. I am glad he needed to come back and play in the MLS so he could be a big fish in a small pond instead of playing against world class players. In 2010. Pick only international players, not this MLS crap that cant compete. And it looks like we are playing a 4-5-1. We should be playing a 3-5-2 like we did in the last world cup. Donovan hasn't been bad in this game, problem is we just aren't pushing it. ANd I agree, against a team like the Czechs we should be attacking them like crazy and force the issue for them to play defense. One problem is they are now pretty much keeping an extra man back, making it tougher, but the US speed should still be able to get some opportunities. As far as our D goes, they have made some fundementally stupid mistakes, resulting in that 2nd goal (although you also have to tip your hat cause that was an awesome shot). I question why Beasley is playing on the right side, he's so much better on the left.

Ozzie Lambasted Over Weekend. Do you Agree??
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) LOL..I'm intentionally avoiding the World Cup thread because I'm going to watch the game when I get home from work. So I'm hanging around in the palehose side of the board and Jas manages to post something about the game. NICE LOL, I thought I was in that thread...I'll shut up. At least I didn't tell ya the score.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) What defense. Eddie Lewis is not a defender. He is a defensive midfielder. He is too slow to play D. Eddie Pope is too old and slow to keep with any world class players. He was getting owned by anyone during qualifying, but he played for DC United and for Bruce Arena before so he plays. There is a reason that Keller is not in the premiership anymore. Macus or Howard should of started, they at least have the atheticism that is needed for this. A bigger issue is our team, which is a lot faster, is playing a slow tempo right now. They are letting the Czechs set the tone of this game (and the Czechs helped that out by scoring early) but the US is now letting it happen. Koller goes down, looks like he pulled his hammy. This could help give US more of an opening. The problem is they look sluggish out on the field and they are doing a terrible job of passing. They've made quite a few mistakes and the Czechs have turned at least one of those mistakes into a goal. Wasn't paying much attention when the 1st goal scored (was just finishing up some work stuff).

2-0 now. Our defense looks like piss. However, that was a hell of a goal. Perfect shot. On a sidenote, damn do the Czechs have some size on us.

I could see going off for Ozzie if he was defending Grimsley in any way shape or form or sitting there telling Grimsley not to out other players. However, if he thinks Grimsley is just throwing out random names, well that could be another thing.

f***, US went down 5 minutes into the game on a nice cross that resulted in a header . 14:26 into the game now, still 1-0. Czechs are 2nd ranked in the world apparently.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) I officially hate Fullerton. f*** Fullerton. They should be called the dirtbags, not LBSU, with the way they play. We don't have the best talent, but we win and just beat down our opponents On a sidenote, Gagnier was a freaking steal in the 10th round, imo (Tigers drafted him). We open up play against Miller though so thats gonna be one hell of a test.

What round were our current Sox drafted in?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) Konerko's minor league accomplishments include: 1997 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year 1997 Player of the Year (Triple-A - Baseball America) 1997 Triple-A All-Star Team (Baseball America) 1997 Most Valuable Player (Pacific Coast League - AAA) 1997 Pacific Coast All-Star Team (AAA) (Third baseman) 1996 Double-A All-Star Team (Baseball America) 1996 Texas League All-Star Team (AA) 1994 Northwest League All-Star Team (A) (Designated hitter) So yes you were correct, he was absolutely sick in '97. And in 98 he came up early for the Dodgers when Karro's was injured, mashed the ball in spring training but than struggled out of the gate and Tommy Lasorda (Than GM) gave up on him way too quickly in the horrible Jeff Shaw deal (made like a day before the all star game as Shaw was supposed to pitch for the Reds in the ASG, but instead went with the Dodgers). We than got him for Mike Cameron and my favorite player (I was a huge fan when he was with the Dodgers) made it over to the Sox. I also think he played some 3B in the minors and who could forget the few games he saw at 3rd when Manuel was our manager.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) Argentina looking really REALLY good. Should be 3-0 but 2-0 ARG at the half. Drogba scores in the 82nd minute to make it 2-1 but CIV just couldnt put it together. Boy, a draw in this match would have been awesome for SCG. Ivory Coast should have had a penalty kick around the 70 minute mark.

Carl Crawford
Just throwing something out there, but if we dealt for Carl Crawford I really think it could mean the end for Scott Podsednik (at least after this year). We could use Crawford at the top of the order and get rid of our hideous defensive left fielder and replace him with someone like Josh Fields, Ryan Sweeney or move Crawford back to left (if we still held onto Anderson).

What round were our current Sox drafted in?
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Konerko and Pierzynski were HS catchers drafted in '94 in the 1st and 3rd rounds, respectively. Plus I think Konerko was a minor league player of the year (not 100% on that, but I think he was).

Sean Tracey
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) The Sox now have had 6 of their draft picks from the '02 draft make the major leagues. That's 50% more than any other team in baseball. We've been very sucessful in the draft as of late despite the lack of success of our 1st round picks (hopefully Fields and Anderson can change that, as well as Broadway and McCulloch). Plus when our guys haven't produced we've still been able to deal our picks for major league help and that is what it appears our organization prefers (keeping a few select guys while moving the rest of them for current help). Its also why I think we tend to favor collegiate players (especially early on) because they are more likely to have some early success and thus have solid trade value.

What round were our current Sox drafted in?
One thing I'd like to point out on Buehrle. He was a DFE we took and we gave him top 5 round money. Had he re-entered the draft (and not signed with the Sox) he probably goes in the 1st 5 rounds.

White Sox 10th Round Pick Lee Cruz playing on TV
The guy is a hitting machine. We are working on setting up an interview with him once his season ends. I should add, I think that game is recorded, but not 100% on that cause I thought the Championships were overwith.

Draft Pick Signings
Goign to start updating this thread on draft picks that have signed: I know we've came to terms with our 26th round pick David Wasylak who was a closer at Lubbock Christian. I'm sure we've came to terms with more guys and I'll work on getting that updated quickly.

Intentionally walking Hafner
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) Vazquez stuff is filthy, but I think he's odd in that he seems to pitch best with hitters in position, and he seems as if he likes to live on the edge and pitch with the attitude of a brinksman. I hear what you're saying, re: pitch count, but he was only slightly over a hundred, and I think it would've been within reason to keep him in against Hafner. Wasn't he at 111? And considering he had a few jams, he seems to throw a lot of "high stress" pitches. I say better safe than sorry, plus Cotts is very good against both LHP and RHP...Haffner just beat him.

CWS: Playoffs will be starting soon
South Carolina is absolutely lighting up Georgia 12-1 in the 7th. Georgia had a few golden opportunities to get back in the game but got 1 run after having the bases juiced with 1 out in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. South Carolina hit 5 consecutive HR's off Georgia in the 2nd inning (all of them were major bombs). This would be an upset.
