  2. Considering the ASG is in an NL park I can't pick Thome so its going to be Dye. Konerko is pretty deserving as well and I could really make a case for Crede.
  3. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) According to the official release, it's shoulder, not elbow. Cliff to DL CHICAGO -- Prior to tonight's game vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox placed reliever Cliff Politte on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 5) with right shoulder inflammation and recalled right-hander Sean Tracey from Class AAA Charlotte. Politte, 32, has gone 1-1 with a 7.40 ERA (17 ER/20.2 IP) in 23 relief appearances with the Sox this season. Over his last seven games, Politte has given up eight runs on 15 hits over 6.1 IP (11.37 ERA). Tracey, 25, went 5-3 with a 3.18 ERA (22 ER/62.1 IP) and 49 strikeouts in 15 games (nine starts) with the Knights this season. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder issued 35 walks but held opponents to a .210 (47-224) average. His first six appearances of the season came in relief but he made nine straight starts prior to the recall. Tracey is 43-31 with a 3.84 ERA (245 ER/574.1 IP) and 437 strikeouts in 113 games (97 starts) over five minor-league seasons. He originally was selected by the White Sox in the eighth round of the June 2002 First-Year Player Draft. Tracey, who has no major-league experience, will wear uniform No. 50. Ya, I had shoulder but I pasted my unedited version of the story and than I caught the error when I was editing the piece real quickly. Its fixed everywhere now.
  4. Sean Tracey Promoted to Chicago; Cliff Politte to the DL By Jason Gage Soxtalk.com The Chicago White Sox placed reliever Cliff Politte on the 15 day disabled list prior to Wednesday’s game due to soreness in his shoulder. Politte, a key cog to last year’s strong bullpen, has struggled mightily in 06; posting a 7.40 ERA in 16 appearances. The White Sox will replace Politte with AAA starter Sean Tracey, who will move into the bullpen in Chicago...Click Here for More On Politte and Tracey

  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Sean Tracey still has a 95 mph fastball and he's not afraid to pitch inside, right Jas? Yer gosh darn right. Odd thing is his FB velocity was low most of the spring, but his move back to the rotation led to his stuff coming back (I think he just wasn't quite ready during the spring). Really excited for Sean...one of my favorite prospects and part of that has to deal with how cool of an interview he was.

  9. 31. Maurice Gartrell, RF, University of San Francisco His collegiate coach on Gartrell: "We are really fortunate to have him back and he will be a wonderful professional prospect. He's come back to guide USF this season. He possesses everything necessary to have a career in baseball, great size, great speed, great strength and a great understanding of how to play the game." This is an excellent value pick.
  10. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Very nice job on all the draft coverage Jas! I can't wait till I take a break and play some golf in a couple hr's. I'm sick of starring at the computer for two days.
  11. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) No joke on Garret Johnson, but if you go to his mlb.com draft video, you can see through him. And I thought McCarthy was thin. Ya, 205 is insanely thin for being 6'10. This is the type of guy that could really pay off if he can add some strength in JC and than we can maybe give him a nice offer a week before the draft next year. Has pretty damn good control and how couldn't his velocity go up if he added some muscle.

Jedon Matthews, 3b, Horizon Christian HS (CA) Taking a break from doing the writeups now that its getting later on I'm just going to do them if something sticks out to me. Here's something from BA on our 19th round pick: Plenty Of Upside 12:25 p.m.: Another 19th-rounder with upside went to the White Sox at the end of the round, with UC Riverside catcher Jeff Dunbar, a draft-eligible sophomore, coming off the board. He's one of the best defensive catchers in the nation, but his bat backed up in the season's final month. Dunbar has excellent arm strength, so much so that his tall (6-foot-4) frame and offensive struggles have some suggesting a move to the mound might be in order. It may take top-five rounds money to buy him out of his junior and senior seasons at Riverside. -- John Manuel 29. Garret Johnson, LHP, Orme High School (AZ)
  14. Oh sweet...when the draft ends and the rosters are announced I'll give ya some names.
  15. 26. David Wasylak, RHP, Lubbock Christian (TX)
  16. Sean Tracey come on down (or so I hope) but it could be Farnsworth or Javier Lopez.
  17. 24. Michael Rocco, rhp, Cal State Bernardino 25. Joseph Hunter, CF, Missisippi State University
  18. 22nd Round • Kanekoa Texeira, RHP - Drafted in the 22nd round out of Saddleback Community College, Texeria displayed some potential out of high school, but slipped in the draft (Selected by the Brewers in the 31st round) due to a loss of velocity late in his senior season. When at his best, Texeira could rare back and throw 92-93 MPH. 23. Brandon Villalobos, lhp, Chaffey College (CA)
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:16 AM) Is that 3 catchers in the first 20 rounds? This guy is good, but is a very tough sign as he's a draft eligible sophmore: 20. Wade Kapteyn, RHP, Illiana Christian High School (IL) This guy was a top 2 or 3 round pick so our first picks of day two are tough signing, potentially high impact guys. 21. Matthew Inouye, C, University of Hawaii
  20. Day 2 has begun and the 19th round is underway 19. Jeffrey Dunbar - C - University of Riverside
  21. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Jason, you sure it was an offensive league? Tampa's pitchers have alot of low era's. I didn't check other teams stats though. IIRC DII was pretty offensive, althoug he plays in the top DII league as well (Sunshine league or something like that). Andrew Urena in RD 11 (RHP out of Mercer). I am heading off, so I'll update a lot of stuff later on tonight/early tomorrow AM prior to the draft. Alex and Dan will probably be updating stuff on FS as well.
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) Watching the MLB.com video, yeah I would say a young Ortiz is a good comparison. I have no insight into his plate approach, but he appeared patient, waiting to hit his pitch as hard as possible. He smashed one foul in the video that made me say WOah! A butcher in the field...but the kid can RAKE. FS Stuff on last two picks: Lee Cruz...OF...Univ of Tampa Bay
  23. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) How does this guy compare to Lance Broadway? Broadway had an awesome spike curve....McCulloch has an awesome changeup as well as a good curve, solid fastball, and a solid slider and he can throw all of them for strikes.
