Knicks fire Brown
This helped me get through the world cup game. US was down 1-0 and I saw the breaking news update and fell off the couch laughing.

Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:01 AM) Not to be a whiner or a conspiracist. But doesnt it seem like in the last 2 games especially, the refs have taken a harder line on the US team. Could it be our standing politically in the world? Because we are at war? The thing that pisses me off is that we are one of the cleanest teams (in terms of play) in the entire world cup. We rarely foul and don't at all play a dirty game that would warrant all these bulls*** calls.

Rowand vs. Anderson
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 03:08 AM) You make arguments for either, because they're both fantastic defensive CF's in their own right. For example Anderson would have a better arm, but Rowand probaby has the better range even if occasionally there is a question over his reads of the ball straight off the bat. Gotta disagree here. Anderson has superior range. He gets to some balls that I dont' think anyone in the game gets to (aside from Jones/Hunter who are the two best in the biz).

The Media Watch is Over
Its over, not in 2 weeks, not ever. Blogspot.com and all responses to any type of this crap will result in a suspension (not just Hangar, but anyone else that eggs him on or anything like that).

Official Ozzie/Mariotti Thread
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:47 AM) Wasnt that the kettle calling the pot black? He called out his paper and said they have to treat everyone FAIRLY. Fairly? heh heh. This is the same paper that did a fullpage article on Darren Baker. No, if you read, he is mad that his paper is seemingly taking the SOX side on this and has censored him in the past. Something a paper should NEVER EVER do. Who cares. Take it somewhere else. I said the media stuff is done here, you want it, blogspot.com and be done with it. The same goes for anyone responding to your posts with that stuff (either pro or con). Thats that, the line has been laid, if anyone wants to try me out, you'll be suspended or banned.

Soxtalk Sits Down W/ Brian Omogrosso
I just want to add a tidbit about his velocity. He was clocked as high as 98 THIS YEAR and in a workout a week before the draft (w/the reds) he was clocked at 95. He was hoping to be selected between the 2nd and 4th rounds. I love the idea of a power throwing guy to go along with Long. These guys could make a quick impact for the Sox (in 1-2 years, starting as soon as next year) in an area we really lack (the pen).

Rowand vs. Anderson
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) I disagree but whatever. To be totally honest I was never real high on his as a prospect, as a matter of fact I really didn't see him as much until he actually got here and I got a chance to see him play everyday, he's totally grown on me. I am about as impartial as it comes concerning Sox players and I gotta say the only problem I've had with his defense is his missing cutoff man, other than that he's been pretty remarkable out there. I'm the same way. I had seen him but I had major doubts about him, especially offensively. I also figured there was no way he'd be the type of defensive outfielder he's turned into this quickly. Last I saw him he flashed everything you wanted (defensively) but he wasn't exactly consistent. He would get good jumps one game, than struggle the next game and so on. However, I figured he'd have trouble adjusting to one of the toughest places to play CF in the bigs, but he's been amazing out there. Now if he can figure out how to hit we'd be set for a long time. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) How can you make that claim? Watch the replay of even the face breaker catch he made earlier this year against the Mets, he had a TERRIBLE read on that ball. Same goes for the catches he made in NY that got him on the map last year. Rowand was a very good fielder because he caught it if he got to it, but his terrible reads and not great speed made catches Anderson makes look easy very hard for Crash. Couldn't disagree more on that. If there was any knock it was that Rowand played a deep CF and that caused him to not get to the ocassional shallow hit ball. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) He catches everything he gets to, has decent speed and does well to turn on the jets once he has a read, has a very good arm, and is smart enough to know where and when to throw the ball. Those qualities make you a well above average center fielder in my book, however he has 2 weaknesses, which are the short ball and his initial read on the ball (I don't consider his speed a "weakness", it's just BA has very good speed so he's faster). Rowand is a very good CF on defense, however Brian is a great one with a lot more God given talent, that's all. (And I'll drop the "bad reads" part of this, since that argument is impossible for either of us to win). Rowands arm was s*** last year. He used to have a pretty good arm, but it went away (maybe from his shoulder injury). It should be noted that accuracy is well more important than arm strength (unless you have a total noodle). I also think Vladdy is s*** out in the field and his arm is s*** too (misses cutoff men left and right and throws 1 in 100 on target; sure its a cannon, but it don't mean jack if you can't hit your target). QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) I believe when he was drafted, he was listed as a potential 5 tool player (Anderson). I might be wrong Jas, maybe you can elaborate or if you could remember. I assume you mean drafted, but yes, he would be your 5 tool guy. Of course I have long had major doubts as to whether he'd hit for enough of an avg. But the power, arm and speed are all there and damn can he play some defense. I still think the best case scenario is Torri Hunter. I can't see BA being any better of a hitter than that (maybe he could consistently hit in the .270 to low .280 range, but I would be shocked if it was ever any higher than that). At least without him making drastic changes to his swing and approach.

Rowand vs. Anderson
Not a tough choice BA is the better defensive outfielder, but I'd rather have Aaron Rowand if we are talking about "this year". Long term I'll take my chances with BA, especially since he's cheap and we'll have his rights for a while (unless we trade him).

The Media Watch is Over
Thank YAS too, he came up with the good idea about whoevers interested starting up a blog and that we could just link it to Soxtalk. I simply posted this idea (since I got the access to do the whole front page linking thingy). Oh, but the blogspot.com shoutout was all me

The Media Watch is Over
Anyone wanting to talk about the media watch can create a seperate blog (over on blogspot) and I'll throw up a link on the front page of Soxtalk for anyone wanting to check it out. I have stayed far away from it, but I'm absolutely sick of it taking up half of the g*d damn baseball discussion around these parts. So consider that my warning...all media watch threads closed and will be closed if they are made. www.blogspot.com Create the blog, PM me the link, and I'll put it up on Soxtalk so anyone interested can go there (and post comments to the daily blog talking about the media watch).

Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
Two of my horses are playing tomorrow and Italy (one of my horses) could really help my main horse out (US) by picking up a win. Of course US still needs to take care of things themselves. My 3rd horse (the Doitch, ie Dutch) will be moving on and ready and willing to beat up on the Portugese.

QUOTE(fullcollapse @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) the worst part is i find myself using these more and more in my daily life. at least a half dozen of those i've probably said today, and it is even worse when watching a game. I do the same thing.

CWS: Playoffs will be starting soon
Well the Titans put up a good fight but were eliminated. They sure sucked with runners on 3rd and less than 2 outs against North Carolina. Between a few failed opportunities and some uncharacteristic errors the Titans run came to an end.

AL Central Central
QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) There is one, and I do frequent there. I come here cause I like to read reactions. That's all it is. Don't worry about it, your more than welcome here. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 05:35 PM) Makes you wonder how this can guy can have the Sox number, but the Cubs see him and score 9 nines off of him. And the Angels clobber him too.

Future Games Rosters Announced
Gomes is a pretty good athlete, but you'd think we'd have someone else to offer (we don't though). Still it should be cool to see him and Fields.

White Sox agree to terms with McCulloch
Little late to the party, but here's FutureSox's story: White Sox Agree to Terms With Top Choice McCulloch By Jason Gage FutureSox.com On Tuesday, the White Sox came to terms with 1st round draft choice Kyle McCulloch. The Sox and McCulloch reach an agreement on a $1.05 million signing bonus. McCulloch, a junior, was the Friday starter for the Texas Longhorns. After signing the deal, McCulloch went on to say, "I'm very excited to have that part out of the way, and now it's time to get back to baseball,". The Sox will send McCulloch to advanced rookie Great Falls. FutureSox.com is working on an interview with McCulloch and as always we will do our very best to keep you updated on his (and the fellow draft picks) success in the minors. The 6-3 righty went 8-5 with a 3.61 ERA in his final season with the Horns. It was a slight downgrade from his sophomore season, where won 10 games while posting a 2.92 ERA for the 05 National Champions. McCulloch was considered a “safe” pick by many scouts. He lacks the upper end velocity scouts drool over, but has good command of all four of his pitches (FB, Changeup, Curve, and Slider). When on, McCulloch uses his 88-91 MPH fastball (which has been clocked into the mid 90’s) to get ahead of the hitters. He’ll than mix in his plus changeup, a big overhand curve, and a developing slider. The changeup and curve ball are what you’d call his “out” pitches. Great Falls began its season yesterday (June 20th) and McCulloch is expected to make his first start sometime in the next 10 days.

Smoltz
QUOTE(heirdog @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) I wouldn't call that payback. I would call that history repeating itself. Doyle Alexander was the established vet and Smoltz was the young pitcher who had promise. If Detroit dealt Zumaya for Smoltz, they would cry again as Zumaya goes on to be a star for the next 15 or so years. Again, the caveat is that if Smoltz leads them to a WS ring (unlikely in my mind with the White Sox and Yanks amongst others standing in their way), then the trade-off might be worth it but he would have to be one of the main reasons they won. Yep, that would be such a bad trade its not even funny.

White Sox agree to terms with McCulloch
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 05:22 AM) I have a feeling either the Sox are concerned about the drop in velocity so they want to take it easy on him this year, or this will be a short stop in Great Falls. If they were concerned about his drop in velocity they wouldn't have drafted him in the 1st round.

6/20 Games
Nice, I'm really happy to see Tracey have a strong start after coming back. He's a confident kid and I know he's got a strong character and a positive attitude so I have really been hoping that Ozzie didn't just ruin his career.

Mark Teixeira
If I were on HGH, I don't thikn I"d be that concerned. They can't test for it so as long as you protected those close to you and were very quiet about it you'd probably be alright.

Cubs sign Samardzija
QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) Or he can Cool Breeze it for a couple years and get his full 7.25 Million, which is what I think has Selig rightfully up in arms. The Cubs seem to be reinventing the draft process. This ND guy isnt going to leave 7.25 Million sitting on the table. Some of your are correct, this only arms Boras to continue to inflate contracts disguised as "bonuses" Umm...5 years is not cool breezing it. Considering he gets pretty much nothing more than the typical 5th round pick unless he stays all 5 years.

Smoltz
Smoltz? As a reliever or something? Don't think the Sox would spend the money, nor do I think they would give up the prospects. Jones would be interesting, yet again, I don't think they'd spend the dough. We'd be better off just picking up another good reliever.

Tiger Rumors
If some good team ever fell out of contention (say Houston) they could probably make a run at an upper echelon closer. Hell, couldn't they potentially get Smoltzy back and throw him in the rotation (in the end they'll need another starter cause i think they'll have some growing pains at one spot or another). If this team makes a big acquisition (in terms of another reliever or a stud closer and than on top of that a starter) than they really become close competition to the Sox as the team to beat in the AL. The Tigers aren't going to just go away and I'm sick of hearing the argument that they only won so many games last year and didn't really make any changes.

hey hey im back.
Welcome back. Can't comment on boxing though, I know nothing of the sport and have only watched a few fights.
