  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) That makes me hungry. McCarthy gets the K, 1 down.
  2. Bmac in for a 2nd inning. Hopefully he does well, my guess is if anything happens Thornton will be up. Maybe even Jenksy
  3. BA grounds out to Kinsler so thats the inning. We strand the bases loaded. That could turn into a bad thing, but if our pen can take care of business it won't matter.
  4. Now its up to Anderson. Uribe really jammed himself. What a f***ing terrible pitch to swing at. Either way I'm not pinch hitting here cause I want the defense out there. Plus I got faith in BA. Salami time.
  5. I think for the most part they are doing what they can to keep him from coming to us. My guess is a lot of teams try this. I wish we could get him back, but it looks like the Rangers will keep him. you know what, its a freaking joke...he's pitched in 5 games (4 starts) in AA and has made a start in AAA. He's been pitching since May 20th and its now June 12th. I'd have to think he needs to be activated pretty darn quickly.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Is it channel 27 or are the PSA's getting inserted... into the mlb.tv broadcasts? Can you tell? Its channel 27, its on tv so MLB doesn't put in commercials.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) I personally think he could've given up nothing. I believe Pods should definitely have caught that ball, but I may be wrong because I was doing a lot of work while I was watching it. And then the Dye play seemed catchable, too. Exactly, but Garland did give up the hard hit balls and thats on him. Your right though and I think an Avg LF makes that play on Wilkerson's triple while Dye usually would make that catch (but he was a bit turned around).
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) The one weakness I've seen from him is his control. He hasn't walked a lot of people, but he gets behind in the count. His changeup also seems to be consistently higher in the zone than it was during his great stretch last year. His control has been erratic all season and thats been his career strength. I truly believe this is because he's had to sit and not pitch a lot this year and once we start using him 2-3 times a week we should be in a lot better shape cause it will give him enough time to get into a rhythm.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) If McCarthy could become consistant in the bullpen, maybe if he consistantly pitched, it would be huge for this team. I said it at the start of the season and I think the same way now, but for us to make serious noise, we are going to have to develop McCarthy into being that 8th inning righty out of the pen. He may not be able to go everyday, but if its in the post-seaosn that won't be a problem since you'll have the extra days off for the purpose of TV. Him and Cotts are going to be very key and I got a lot of faith in Cotts and its just a matter of Ozzie using McCarthy more which should get him in a groove and help him out (although I doubt we'll use him in back to back games much at all and I don't blame Ozzie for that). Than if one of Tracey/Montero can develop into that back of the pen guy (and I think Tracey is definately capable of that and if Montero keeps coming out and throwing strikes he's also capable of that) with of course Jenks in the closers spot. That basically leaves Thornton as the LOOGY with us needing 1 more vet who can be a swingman type guy in the 7th inning. Hernandez or Hawkins could be that guy.
  10. The Rangers station has a whole lot of public announcements for commercials (between the one with the hockey player telling his daughter he loves her, the one with the young girl talking about older boys, and then this past one).
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) From what I can gather, he's going to start on Sunday against the Reds and Arroyo. Makes sense. Might as well play him against a RHP.
  12. Hopefully Brandon can give us a full inning here.
  13. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) we need to get thome going. hes been getting hits here and there but hes been struggling a bit. hasnt hr'ed in 10 days. As far as I'm concerned, aside from today, these should be his last two starts (in Texas) for a bit, because I would have Konerko in at 1b throughout interleague play (when we are the visiting team). However, my guess is Thome will get 1 start and I'm sure he'll PH in every game.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) I've been at most of Garland's home starts this year, and saw him in person in Tucson at the end of spring training. Its one of the few times there wasn't rocket after rocket hit off him. I think it was the best he's pitched by far this season. I really liked the fact that he wasn't trying to strike guys out, rather he was throwing in the upper 80's, which enables his ball to get a lot more sink to it. If he does that while mixing in the ocassional 2seamer in on the hands of batters (which Jon usually throws a little harder) mixed with his change and breaking ball and I think we'll see him turn things around. He didn't pitch inside at all to Texiera (I assume we have him scouted that way though) but he was throwing the ball in at least a decent number of times to the guys). And like you said, not many hard hit balls today and thats against a very good Texas team in the heat.
  15. Neal Cotts kept the damage to two runs, but a triple on a play off of Scotty's glove (personally speaking I think its a ball that a lot of LF'ers catch, but I'm not going to call it an easy play) was about the only hard hit ball (until Mike Young knocked him out of the game with an RBI double). Here's my thoughts on Garland's performance (curious to hear what others thought of him): Jon threw a good game. He had a shaky 6th inning and obviously you'd like to see him go deeper in the game, but he got a ton of ground ball outs and seemed to be throwing a little easier. Stunk he couldn't go deeper, but the Rangers really had some good AB's on him and eventually he made a mistake to Young (after Young fouled off some tough pitches; its also a play Dye makes some of the time, but Garland gave up the hard hit ball and thats on him). Kinsler also had a really good AB (to draw the 1 out walk that started things). Overall I thought Jon threw the ball pretty good. NOTE: I posted this in the game thread, but when I thought about it, I figured this is an easier place for those who may not have been able to see the game to find info on Garland's start.

  17. FutureSox.com is going to be interviewing Omogrosso in about a day and I have some questions that I'm going to ask him, but I also want to give you guys/gals an opportunity to get some questions you may have about him answered. He is a sidewinding reliever out of Indiana State University that the White Sox selected in the 6th round of the 2006 MLB draft.

    Comedians

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) Have you heard Pablo Francisco's acts about Las Vegas? And his pieces about movies and Ahhhnold are great too. Ya, my only problem with him is that the 2nd time I saw him live (and it was quite a bit after the 1st time) was that a lot of his material was very similar (I like to see new stuff).
  19. The Sox could see enough out of Tracey or Montero that they could just get a guy like Hawkins/Hernandez and than go with a plan where Lumsden or another youngster comes up late in the year and pitches in as well. Its not like we don't have some arms down in AA that could potentially contribute and Lummy is exactly the type of guy that could make a pretty immediate impact in a pen. Of course thats risky, but if we go into the playoffs with a pen with Lummy, an improved Tracey (we will need to see if that will pan out) and than a guy like Hawkins/Hernandez to go with Cotts and Jenks we should be in decent shape (especially when you consider the rest the relievers should get due to the days off during the playoffs; plus one of our starters will move to the pen as well).

    Films

QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) finally saw shaun of the dead. So brilliant. Even being much of a comedy, the fact that they had character development and you cared about the characters made it 10x better than most honest scary movies out there. Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite funny scary movies (I consider it a comedy myself). Really whitty and just an all around enjoyable flick.

    Comedians

QUOTE(palesox38 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 01:04 AM) I absolutley love stand-up comedy and I have a difficult time deciding exaclty who my number #1 favorite is. I can't decide between Jim Gaffigan, Lewis Black, and Dane Cook. Dane and Lewis bring alot of energy, but Jim's delivery is great (and Beyond The Pale is hilarious) and I haven't watched Dane Cook's Tourgasm yet but I can't wait to see it. They all have their strong points and I had a difficult time finding one thing they all have in common but I managed to- alot of their lines are completly random. Post your favorites as well, I'de like to know what comedians people like. By the way, for the Gaffigan fans, does anyone else think its about time this guy got an HBO special? P.S.- I'm not a big Mitch Hedburg fan, is there anyone else who agrees? My favorites would be Pablo Francisco and Dane Cook. Both are very good live with Dane Cook being the better of the two. Oh and Dave Attel.
  22. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) Yep. I got a much better job offer in March. Nice...you liking Austin? I have a few buddies that go to school right by there and they say its an awesome place. How far is it from Dallas?
  23. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Might be there on Thursday. Did you end up moving to Texas instead of San Diego?
  24. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) That's a pretty awful group to pick that can compete against Brazil. France has major questions after the scoreless draw with the Swiss. Portugal has a history of underachieving so I'm not going to even consider them. The Czechs looked good but they were playing us. I'm thinking England, Italy, and maybe Argentina or Holland among a few others could hang with/beat Brazil. I'd be stunned if any of the teams you mentioned made it to the semis. Argentina and the Dutch are possibilities and I don't know how you can count out the Germans. Can't see England doing it nor the Italy team of yesterday, but Italy has the talent and if they can build upon things as the cup goes on it could be a possibility.
  25. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) LOL.. This is so wrong.. but so funny... i spit toothepaste all over myself
