QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) You want me to comment on that as well? You know who is dominating. The best pitching prospect in baseball. -

QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) Naw, Uribe only hits when everyone else in the lineup hits. Those are the times Juan "carries the team." :rolly He sure hit when none of our others guys were coming up with the clutch hit. The hit tied up the game against the Reds. -

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) Yes sir. I love these type of games. GOod pitching on both ends and it magnifies the little things that really make baseball such a great game to watch (bunting, defense, moving guys over) -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) Garcia's stuff is getting much better as the game goes on. Time for Mackowiak to start the inning off right. Thats Garcia's MO. He gets sweaty and he gets nasty. -

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) Tyler, is that you? I'm bias, he was one of the picks I really loved in that draft (Whisler, uggh). I feel the same way about Tracey (big fan of what his arm could do in our pen; simply because the stuff is there for him to be sucessful). -

Hell, they took a guy like that in Wes Whisler and it was a freaking terrible pick. Sox liked his arm and thought of him as a project even though he was horrid in college. He's had injury problems since entering the system, but has put together a few good starts as of late. When it comes to gas, Its more important out of the pen and we drafted a few really hard throwing relievers this year in Long and Omogrosso. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:19 PM) Yes on second part, no on second. Our scouting philosophy overall limits pitchers with high potential. Recent first round draft picks have suggested so. Lumsden, a relatively hard thrower, wasn't throwing 93-94 when he was originally drafted as a sandwich pick. Mentioning Reyes is more of a joke; although I'm honestly not a fan of Broadway. I continually mention prospects who succeed and compare those to ours, who RARELY exceed immediately upon promotion. About Liriano, and finding one for our own, I'm honest when I say our process of Latin scouting is atrocious. It hasn't produced even a 4th OF in nearly 8 years. Even those who were traded haven't gone on to be successful. Hate to break it to you, but Lumsden was one of the best arms of that draft and he throws about as hard now as he did than. BA is full of crap on a lot of the gun readings they go off of. A guy hits a certain speed once and all of a sudden thats how hard they throw the FB. Lummy pitched in the low 90's and will ocassionally rare up and fire one into the mid 90's. For the most part he's 90-91 with more movement and will also throw a FB in the 92-94 range and than ocassionally rare back and fire one a bit higher. He has a good cutter though thats in the lower range while he will throw the 4 seamer a bit harder. Lummy is also a freaking stud on the mound (his composure is most excellent). -

Yaddier makes a really great grab in foul territory to end the inning. Crede popped out and we really failed to take the lead. -

AJ doesn't get the job done, softly hit ball to Eckstein who caught it. A little harder and its gets over the head of the drawn in infield. -

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) I want him to throw a nono, but still have the sox win. We were no hit by the Yanks in the 90s (I think it was the 90's) and won 4-0 IIRC. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) They'd be nuts to throw AJP a fastball here. They did and he hit it foul. -

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) I didn't see the play, but from your description, it sounds like it would have been a HELL of a play, and might not be an error. He jumped when he didn't need to jump and the ball landed square in the middle of his glove. Would Mack make the play, probably not, but Taguchi got there and should have made the grab. Hawk and DJ are such a joy to listen to. Between DJ trying to jinx the no no and there analysis of what Larussa is doing on the field (moving the fielders up to distract the hitter; something we can't see from the normal camera angle). They are homers, but they both know there s*** for the most part. Although Hawk does ocassionally upset me with some of his rants. -

JD creams it to center and Taguchi jumps up at the wall and drops a ball that should have been caught. It should be an error and I hope it is called that. Lets legitimately bust up the no no with an RBI single right here. -

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) Flash: what exactly are you trying to say? We don't scout the latin countries well? I think that's fair. But if you're saying that guys like Liriano and Reyes are a dime a dozen, and we should have a few, you're kidding yourself. Flash, the guy who made his debut for Bristol yesterday throws into the mid 90's and I think he came from our dominican camp. QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) Yes, and it's because of his offensive value why I don't want him to get hurt on bad reads on fly balls. Unbelievable. -

Throwing a no no for the Cards is like a curse. Bud Smith, remember how touted he was. Than Jimenez who was supposed to be pretty good, but really had a mediocre career sans a year or two where he was semi solid as the closer for the Rockies. Glad to see Eckstein is okay on that colission. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) He's really only been fastball/change-up so far. It's been all about his location. His change doesn't look near as good as it did in the 1st inning. Hawk isn't the only one to notice he's giving away the change. Everytime I see him throw the change I know its coming. He's slowing down his arm as opposed to his FB. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) So........... Where's the Anthony Reyes in our minor league system? An injury prone righty with great stuff. Maybe Honel was that guy a few years back, but Bmac is way more of a prospect. Wow, Jermaine makes an amazing catch, but he's really slow to get up, I hope he's alright. -

Freddy is gonna get hammered if he keeps pitching like this. He is leaving a ton of breaking balls up. 1 down though, Mack makes the catch in center. -
QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) "Everybody is going to be focused on Roger Clemens, with it being his first start of the season," Hunter said. "But while they are all focusing on him, they are going to see something totally different, which is Liriano. He's going to shock the world." that was on the MLB.com preview thingy today I just read your sig and it was hillarious. By the way, what would you say to being a mod on this forum and I am serious. Your a damn good poster and very active over here. You may be a Twins fan but you know baseball and are always respectful and thats exactly what Soxtalk stands for.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) That's more retarded than racist. Funny how he was throwing mid 90's in Seattle. By slow, I think he was referring to how Freddy takes his time on the mound as opposed to his velocity. -

Hawk starts to laugh at how Mack almost fell over catchin a routine fly to center. Luckily he caught it. I almost thought that was going to be an insdie the parker (had Rob fallen over) that thing would have rolled all the way to the wall. For those that don't have the game on TV, it wasn't a hard hit ball at all. Went off the end of the bat (so in Mack's defense that makes it a bit harder to get a read on, but right there was one of the reasons I don't want him in CF when we have Anderson available) -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) I've noticed that Hawk is most vocal about the gun when Garcia is on the mound. To be honest, after all of the questioning about Garcia's velocity this season, I'm happy that he makes sure he tells the viewing audience what's going on. It took DJ 19 minutes to comment on Garcia's finesse style of pitching. Him and DJ have even said 87 is the hardest he's thrown now while 91 is about the hardest they've seen all year and I usually think stadium guns are relatively accurate. Plus they talk to scouts who I'm sure are checking the guns of Garcia. You can tell they have been frustrated with Freddy's lack of using the FB. He has great breaking stuff, but he still has to throw his FB from time to time.
