I have had enough with Chris Widger
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) I'm well aware of the scary past connection players have had to the player rep label (Shoenweiss we hardly new ye). I'm trying to think positively here guys. Chris Stewart is a decent option, but he is unfamiliar with our starters so it would be odd to call him up. Plus you don't exactly expect a rookie to come up and call a tremendous game, although is very good defensively and I think he'll be our new backup catcher at the end of the season. Also, Sandy Alomar may be waived by the Dodgers in the coming days. Thats another option and I always felt he called a decent game, but he's not much of a hitter anymore and can't throw out a runner to save his life.

Garcia/Garland to the mets?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) Because how many times has it happened, and will these teams like the Mets give up a Mike Pelfrey for a Freddy Garcia, after they've already been burned once from a similar sort of deal before? Pelfrey and a reliever (Heilman or Sanchez) and I wouldn't take anything less. Pelfrey could help us out in the pen now if we wanted him to while being our potential 6th starter if anyone goes down while he develops into a guy that could replace another starter next year or in the following years if necessary.

Vazquez
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) Folks, Javy is going nowhere this season. Only contenders take on $12 million/yr contracts, and there ain't no contender that is trading us what we want/need. Forget about trading Javier Vazquez. We won't deal with a legit contender, but the Sox may deal with a team looking to retool for next year (kind of like the Sox were doing when we swung deals for Jose and Freddy just before the break; obviously Kenny thought the team could make the playoffs, but he also had his eye on the future). The Mets aren't that team, but I'm sure there are a few teams that may have some money to spend and would be willing to give up a player or two that aren't in there long term plans for a pitcher that could turn into a front of the rotation guy (especially with them only being on the hook for like 6.5 mill or so next year). QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:00 AM) If something like that happens, Kenny stole my idea. Trading for top notch relief help and putting McCarthy into the rotation. See, this gm stuff ain't that hard. I'd want both and that would seriously upgrade the pen, but I don't think the Mets would take that much away from there pen.

Tom Gordon on the block?
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) I might give up two in the top 15. Depends which two... Not a chance in hell, though, are they even touching Fields or Sweeney. Honestly, if we don't give up those guys the Phils aren't giving us Gordon. Thats just a part of doing business and it may very well be the reason we don't get Gordon. I could see us moving Javy or Freddy but I think we'd be getting more than just Gordon back and yes, that could even mean the return of Aaron Rowand. Just me speculating, but a straight up deal would make no sense and Kenny probably wouldn't deal Sweeney for Gordon and I have my doubts he'd give up Fields for him, but another team will give up that type of prospect for Gordon.

Computer Help Needed
Ya, just have both computers set up on the wireless network. Plug the ethernet from your modem to the network plug of the wireless router and than set up the wireless network so that both your computers connect (obviously you need a wireless card in each computer). That should do the trick with the router and modem staying in the pool room.

Jason Schmidt
QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) do you think the giants would accually want that? its pretty good return but a lot of salary commitment for javy. That I have no idea, I was speaking from the Sox perspective. They could be interested if they got the right prospects back, but I am unclear as to why they would deal Schmidt when they are in the raise.

Fox close to new MLB TV Deal
QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) from the updated story http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/base...l.ap/index.html does this mean ESPN is out or are there going to be double headers Sunday night? or is it going to be a Sunday afternoon game? ESPN will still have Sunday night games but apparently they may lose out on having any playoff games????

Reds/Nationals trade
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) I have a question. I've heard a lot on this board about Ryan Wagner and how great he is. Why, exactly, was he not in the Reds' bullpen? Is he still just a prospect with a high ceiling? Or was he already in the majors and fell out of favor with the management? He's lazy and will never do anything in Cinncy, a change of scenery may get him to solve his problems but he's horse s*** as of now.

Reds/Nationals trade
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) ESPN is reporting that the Reds trade A. Kearns, F. Lopez, and R. Wagner to the Nationals for 5 players, including Royce Clayton, Majewski, and a few others. What in the hell are the Reds thinking? Lopez is one of the more productive SS in the National League. Giving up Lopez for all that is sheer garbage. They need relievers and Majewski will help them but it makes no sense to give up Lopez. I think you could have worked a Kearns and a spect for Majewksi (if not straight up).

Rowand coming back???
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) No. It actually was the other way around. Gload went to tag up and saw Dye barreling down on him and then got off the base because other wise there was a shot that Dye would have passed him up. After the ball got caught, Dye had to hussle back to 2nd other wise he would have been doubled up and should have been doubled up because he didn't re-tag 3rd as he went back to 2nd. This is what I get for barely watching the game (family reunion so I was in and out but happened to see the replay of the play just after it happened and just assumed it was on Gload since the camera didn't show Dye come into the picture till late).

If the Giants wanted Javy and prospects I could see this move making sense because it gives us a stud pitcher for a few months while opening up a spot in the rotation for Bmac after this year.

Rowand coming back???
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 08:56 AM) How exactly did Gload's baserunning blunder lead to it going 19 innings? If he had tagged up properly, he'd have scored 1 batter earlier, and then Cintron's ground ball would have happened with no one at third. Unless Dye was of course able to fix his baserunning blunders on the same play, which came even closer to costing us the game. Wouldn't DYe have tagged up? I thought Dye had tagged up and than saw Gload at 3rd base and had to go backwards. So Dye would have been on 3rd with less than 2 outs for Cintron.

Vazquez
QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) I was just thinking that the mets look to be huge buyers this deadline with their bad pitching. With Pedro injured for now this team cannot rely on jose lima for long. Sure they will make it to the postseason but you need pitching to win, and im sure they would take vazquez if they took el duque. The only problem is the Sox would have to eat some of his contract. Does anyone else think this situation is plausible? Also what prospects do you think we could get in return? If we want to deal Javy and someone else for a CF and a reliever or two while inserting Bmac into the rotation I really have no problem, but if we are getting prospects in return (unless we plan on moving those spects elsewhere for a CF or RP) its a major mistake, especially when you consider the fact that we would be giving a potential world series foe an asset that fills a major weakness (there rotation).

Soxtalk's no tolerance policy
I'm back in town and I want to further add a rule or two. I realize we haven't been the tightest run site over the years and I"m not about to say we are going to be harping on every little thing, but respect is something that we've been having a problem with. If you can't treat a poster with respect than you won't be here for long. Whether you've been here 1 day or 4 years, there aren't going to be favors for any posters when it comes to the personal attack policy so its best to not say anything at all if you think its questionable. Its real simple, talk down to someone and get suspended, I don't care who you are so it would be wise to not go off on someone for making a bad post or anything along those lines. If you want to test us, fine, but you probably won't be around very long. In addition to the personal attack policy (which will be held to the highest standard because personal attacks ruin threads and discussion and in general make the experience worse for the vast majority of posters) we will also have a new policy on vulgarity. No swear words will be tolerated in any post title . A greater amount of age groups read this site and to make this site friendly and tolerable for all, we feel it would be best suited if people don't come to the site and see a ton of curse words in thread titles. We realize the ocassional curse is going to happen (especially in game threads) but make sure its not in a title thread or worded in any way that would be deemed as innapropriate or as a personal attack. I have opened this thread up for discussion in case people have questions, but one thing I'm going to advice is for people to not come in here and ask dumb questions or try and cause a rucuss. We are doing this for the greater good of Soxtalk and to try to make the Soxtalk Experience as good as it can be for the vast majority of posters. This is a site that is provided free of charge and will always be free of charge, but at the same time we want everyone to be able to come here and feel comfortable to share points of views and idea's (whether they have 1 post or 30,000 posts) so we feel this will make as welcome and stimulating an enviroment as possible.

B-MAC on the Score right now
Was anything interesting said in the interview? I'm looking forward to seeing how Brandon's arm is doing and whether the team has at all talked to him about rejoining the rotatoin. I really wouldn't be shocked if we made a semi blockbuster deal involving Vazuqez and someone else that would get the team a reliever or two and a centerfielder.

<FutureSox.com>Liotta Sent Down; Russell To Birmingham
Harrel has pretty damn good sinking action and just needs to continuously work on improving his command. If he can do that he can turn into a solid pitching prospect with a chance of becoming a decent MLB starter. I don't think he'll ever emerge as a top flight prospect but should have some value down the road. Liotta is in a major funk after starting out pretty good. I'm not sure whats going on with him, but it seems as if the league has gotten to him. Hopefully he can get some confidence after making some adjustments down in A ball.

Is this the year that the Sox have a 50 homerun hitter?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 08:34 AM) You don't think he can hit 20 HRs in the second half? I think it'll be hard for him not to get there. If he stays healthy it will be hard for him not to make it there.

Rowand coming back???
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) A guy like that is a possibility, he was DFA'd by Baltimore. The question comes down to this, would any addition to the team add more than Gload does? That's what Guillen and KW have to answer. Another factor, although people like to dismiss this, is Gload is extremely popular in the clubhouse. So to me, it'd have to be a clear upgrade if they're thinking about bumping Gload off the roster. Gload doesn't play much but he's earned his stripes this year, he has done well in limited opportunities and he definitely has value. It's a catch 22. They have to decide whether to stand pat or not. Neither scenario is perfect because you'd like to have better late inning OF defense but they also like what Gload adds to the team. Difficult decision. Plus, aside from his baserunning blunder that led to the game going 19 innings, he's been doing pretty darn good since getting more playing time. He's probably our best pinch hitter off the bench (although Cintron is pretty damn good and Ozuna has his spots as well) but Gload is a damn fine hitter. Although I would be the first to say he's in a tough spot considering we have thome and Konerko ahead of him.

Minor League All-Star Game
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Anyone know if this is really in the organization's plans, or if it is simply speculation and conventional wisdom? If they really were serious about moving him to left, why has he not yet played there? Because he has far more value at 3rd base so you got to keep him there as long as possible. And what I mean when I say that is teams usually give higher value for a top notch 3rd base prospect than a top notch LF prospect.

Tiger Woods/Ozzie Guillen bet?
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) Tiger would easily get 1 hit before Ozzie shot par unless Ozzie is pretty close to scratch as a golfer right now. A lot of my friends are pretty good and play a ton, and they NEVER shoot par. Thats after playing 15-20 years. Tiger would get a broken bat hit, or some sort of cheapie in 15 years. I was assuming they meant par on a hole, not par over 18 cause you got to be very very good to get par on a typical 18 hole course. I like to play golf and play it quite often (well just picked it up again) but unless I'm playing an executive (shorter/easier course) I wouldn't even come close and I've never ever shot par over that many. But shooting par over 18 holes would be like having a .250 average for a complete MINOR league season.

Jon Garland
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) True. I'm not saying he's all the way back yet. I just think the guy deserves some props. He's takin' a beating on this board. If he can get his changeup just a bit better (in terms of location) and we'll see the guy that was really good and one of our aces for most of last year.

7/5 Games
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) Cortes is really holding his own. He was probably a little out of his league to start the season, but he weathered the terrible defense that plagued Kanny early in the year, with his peripherals and hit rate have been improving ever since. He's just 19, so he's well ahead of the age curve in the Sally league. Holding his own should be considered a victory. He'll be one to watch in the second half and next season. He's got a pretty darn good arm and is considered a pretty good prospect (or at least was when we drafted him).

Jeff Weaver traded to Cardinals
If the Angels aren't sending them cash, than the Cards would be picking up everything. Of course I think the Angels are picking up a good deal of salary and this is a no brainer for the Cards who are desperate for pitching and when Weaver is on he's pretty damn solid.
