  1. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Brooks has really disappointed me this year. I still believe he's gonna be a good one, but he's got to get his head out of his ass... sort of speak... Kanny had quite a few guys that could have really made some noise as prospects and thus far none of them have.
  2. Nice...I remember a lot of great things from Maggs in CHicago but I also remember him hitting into a whole lot of those. And thats a White Sox Winner
  3. Jenks looks good, but it doesn't mean he can't be beat tonight. Lets get Maggs to induce into a game ender.
  4. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) Thats whats inexcusable. Having to put Montero in a 1 run game against the Tigers, and he is your best option... I realize he got the outs, but did he look good doing it? I wish I got home just a bit earlier so I could have watched. Was he locating his off-speed stuff or was it just the FB?
  5. We winning or losing I can't tell by the past couple posts?
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) Yes this is one his sons and I am quite certain KW wants him to go to college. I assume his oldest son is still pretty highly touted at Arizona (I think it was the Uni that he went to). Haven't kept track of his other son since we drafted him. His kids are really good athletes though and makes sense on the whole college thing, especially since he wouldn't get much money signing now (even if the Sox paid him top 15 round money). Plus its not like he's dying for money since his dad is well off.
  7. I just want to point out that it is highly unlikely that Tracey will pitch tonight. He went 7 strong innings on July 5th where he gave up just 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits (he walked 2 and k'd 4)
  8. This is the complete list of the 2006 Chicago White Sox draft picks.
  9. 44 (1335). Andrew Fernandez, RHP, Hialeah Senior High School (FL) 45 (1365). Raul Duran, OF, Saddleback High School (CA) 46 (1395). Michael Cerda, 3B, Fred C. Beyer High School (CA) 47 (1425). Kyle Williams, 2B, Chaparral High School (AZ) I am pretty sure this is Ken Williams kid (yet another one of his son's we've drafted and yes his kids are pretty talented). 48 (1455). Rafael Reyes, C, Palmer Trinity School (FL) 49 (1485). Rafael Vera, 2B, Manatee JC (FL) 50 (1515). Brendon O'Donnel, CF, University Texas Permian Basin (CA)
  10. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) i hope he succeeds. I do. We need him. I just caution about expecting instant success. seen too many guys come up and get in trouble because big-league hitters (other than BA) know how to contol the strike zone, take their walks and make a young guy prove he can get multiple pitches over the plate. Seen too many guys like Ginter and Rauch and DAnny Wright who struggled with good arms because of command. Maybe Tracey will be the exception. But I don't think we should expect him to fix our problems immediately. I agree with that and there is a good chance he won't succeed right out of the gate, but I think he's one of the few in house candidates we have that could actually turn into a quality reliever for us (and if things go well he could help the pen out a lot THIS year). Everything is there with him, with exception to the bouts with his command. The nice part is he is willing to throw inside and he's one of those guys that I Think can be "effectively" wild.
  11. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) 35 walks in 62 innings for Tracey. don't get too excited. Walked 76 in 154 innings last year and 69 in 148 the year before. big league hitters will make him throw it over the plate. I don't have the exact splits in front of me, but I think about 15 of those walks came in like his first 15 innings (when he was relieving). His control has been much better as of late, although it is definately the one thing that could hinder his success at the major league level (the stuff is there though, which is definately nice).
  12. 43. Jordan Cheatham, OF, Pike High School (IN)
  13. Considering the ASG is in an NL park I can't pick Thome so its going to be Dye. Konerko is pretty deserving as well and I could really make a case for Crede.
  14. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) According to the official release, it's shoulder, not elbow. Cliff to DL CHICAGO -- Prior to tonight's game vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox placed reliever Cliff Politte on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 5) with right shoulder inflammation and recalled right-hander Sean Tracey from Class AAA Charlotte. Politte, 32, has gone 1-1 with a 7.40 ERA (17 ER/20.2 IP) in 23 relief appearances with the Sox this season. Over his last seven games, Politte has given up eight runs on 15 hits over 6.1 IP (11.37 ERA). Tracey, 25, went 5-3 with a 3.18 ERA (22 ER/62.1 IP) and 49 strikeouts in 15 games (nine starts) with the Knights this season. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder issued 35 walks but held opponents to a .210 (47-224) average. His first six appearances of the season came in relief but he made nine straight starts prior to the recall. Tracey is 43-31 with a 3.84 ERA (245 ER/574.1 IP) and 437 strikeouts in 113 games (97 starts) over five minor-league seasons. He originally was selected by the White Sox in the eighth round of the June 2002 First-Year Player Draft. Tracey, who has no major-league experience, will wear uniform No. 50. Ya, I had shoulder but I pasted my unedited version of the story and than I caught the error when I was editing the piece real quickly. Its fixed everywhere now.
  15. Sean Tracey Promoted to Chicago; Cliff Politte to the DL By Jason Gage Soxtalk.com The Chicago White Sox placed reliever Cliff Politte on the 15 day disabled list prior to Wednesday’s game due to soreness in his shoulder. Politte, a key cog to last year’s strong bullpen, has struggled mightily in 06; posting a 7.40 ERA in 16 appearances. The White Sox will replace Politte with AAA starter Sean Tracey, who will move into the bullpen in Chicago...Click Here for More On Politte and Tracey

  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Sean Tracey still has a 95 mph fastball and he's not afraid to pitch inside, right Jas? Yer gosh darn right. Odd thing is his FB velocity was low most of the spring, but his move back to the rotation led to his stuff coming back (I think he just wasn't quite ready during the spring). Really excited for Sean...one of my favorite prospects and part of that has to deal with how cool of an interview he was.
  18. 35. Adam Heisler, CF, Baker HS (AL) 36. Matthew Enuco, 2B, Rowan Univ (NJ) 37. Adam Severino, OF, Broward CC 38. Jacob Petricka, RHP, Fairbault HS (MN) 39. Clint "Cody" Cisper, RHP, Northeastern State (OK) 40. Andrew Mead, OF, State University College of New York 41. Mike Bolsenbroek, RHP, Santa Ana CC 42. Jose Jackson, 2B, South Florida CC
  19. 32. Brett "Alex" Curry, rhp, Canyon HS (CA) 33. Chris Ulrey, CF, New Palestine HS (IN) 34. Tyler Wright, cf, South Florida CC
  20. 31. Maurice Gartrell, RF, University of San Francisco His collegiate coach on Gartrell: "We are really fortunate to have him back and he will be a wonderful professional prospect. He's come back to guide USF this season. He possesses everything necessary to have a career in baseball, great size, great speed, great strength and a great understanding of how to play the game." This is an excellent value pick.
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Very nice job on all the draft coverage Jas! I can't wait till I take a break and play some golf in a couple hr's. I'm sick of starring at the computer for two days.
  22. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) No joke on Garret Johnson, but if you go to his mlb.com draft video, you can see through him. And I thought McCarthy was thin. Ya, 205 is insanely thin for being 6'10. This is the type of guy that could really pay off if he can add some strength in JC and than we can maybe give him a nice offer a week before the draft next year. Has pretty damn good control and how couldn't his velocity go up if he added some muscle.
  23. 30. Hector Santiago, lhp, Bloomfield Voc Technical (NJ)
  24. 27. Tyler Herriage, lhp, Marcus HS (TX) 28. Jedon Matthews, 3b, Horizon Christian HS (CA) Taking a break from doing the writeups now that its getting later on I'm just going to do them if something sticks out to me. Here's something from BA on our 19th round pick: Plenty Of Upside 12:25 p.m.: Another 19th-rounder with upside went to the White Sox at the end of the round, with UC Riverside catcher Jeff Dunbar, a draft-eligible sophomore, coming off the board. He's one of the best defensive catchers in the nation, but his bat backed up in the season's final month. Dunbar has excellent arm strength, so much so that his tall (6-foot-4) frame and offensive struggles have some suggesting a move to the mound might be in order. It may take top-five rounds money to buy him out of his junior and senior seasons at Riverside. -- John Manuel 29. Garret Johnson, LHP, Orme High School (AZ)
  25. Oh sweet...when the draft ends and the rosters are announced I'll give ya some names.
