  1. Sweeney was also the International League player of the week.
  2. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 1, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) I'd give him a similar deal to AJ, but more like 3 years and 18 mil, but nothing more at this point. I think a deal like that could happen after the season, IF he is serious about not letting his agent (Scotty Bor-ass) get in the way of a deal. I believe we do control his rights through the 2007 season. I'm thinking more along the lines of 3 yr 12 mill with some potential incentives.
  3. If Crede can stay healthy and hit relatively consistently, I think we'll be signing him to a long term deal. Josh Fields is not the answer at 3rd base, however, he may replace Pods in LF in time.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 1, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Their pitching isnt really that good. They have played pretty crappy teams other than us, and we swept their asses. Their bullpen sucks, their closer is horrid, and their offense is like us in 2001-2004. I'm not saying the pitching will hold up. But I'd be just as worried about them than a team like the Indians who have a WORSE pitching staff. Bonderman is better than anyone the Tribe throws out (CC is never healthy so I don't really count him) and Verlander is developing far quicker than expected. Rogers is a very solid pitcher as is Maroth and Roberson isn't horrid. That pen is far from good, but its performed well thus far and they have one of the better managers in baseball. The offense is very good. The media may all hype the Indians, but as I've said from day one the Tigers got a pretty damn good ball club (so far they have been making me look good too). Do I think they'll be better than the Sox, NO, but thats if the Sox stay healthy. In the end I think the Tigers will eventually fall a bit because that pen will have its difficulties and the rotation may hit a rough couple weeks, but for all these people that say the Tribe are bar none the best team in our division (aside from us), well those people are wrong, imo.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) If the ASG were today, He'd take JD, Konerko, Thome, Buehrle, and Contreras All 5 of them could be there in July, but they have to continue to perform for him to justify taking them... Vazquez is the one I'm expecting to make the team as Ozzie sees more and more of what he can do. I betcha by the time things roll around, Cotts/Politte/Jenks (at least 2 of them will also be representing).
  6. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) Somehow I don't see them finishing 2nd in the Central like many have predicted on this site. The Twins pitching has been horrid, but they do have hte arms. Right now I'm the most scared of the Tigers. There young pitching is developing faster than expected and the bullpen has held up thus far (especially Rodney). They may just have the best offense in the AL.
  7. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) my all time worst Sox game in Anaheim? Danny Wright's 19-0 loss. my best? Sitting behind homeplate and watching Bo Jackson launch a monster shot to dead center. (okay, watching the Sox win the pennant was probably better, but Bo was AWESOME). Ya, that was a horrid game in Anaheim. I do remember a game where we won like 16-2 (may have even been the same series as that 19-0 loss). My best memory, game 5 of the ALCS as the Sox win the AL penant. Worse memory was definately that 19-0 loss.
  8. QUOTE(hi8is @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) being that ive been rooting for the sox in the angels stadium since i was about 5 years old..... its nice to FINALLY be on the winning side of things... i remmeber my dad and i going to 3 or 4 game series and being happy to see just one win... thats how bad our sox used to do out here.... now its nice to be the winners, the champs... its nice to have bitter fans jelious and angry at you... its nice to have 70 year old discruntled old people throwing beer and peanuts at you because of your hat its nice to have talented players and hear every excuse in the book from their fans when we just straight up beat them! MUAHAHAHAHAH bring it on angels YES! Seriously trev. I think this has to be the first sweep in the regular season here I've ever witnessed. Its all that much sweeter that its coming after my first ever sweep that we witnessed (ALCS).
  9. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 1, 2006 -> 06:54 AM) My favorite was the dumb f*** who was running up and down the aisles with the "Sox Cheat' sign at Friday night's game. I have to admit, I'd be pretty frustrated if I was an Angel's fan too. Sure we always seem to beat them, but I wouldn't say we dominate. It always seems to be a close game and we win on a fluke play. Kind of how the Twins used to beat us from 2000-2004. That guy was a total tool. He was yelling Sox Cheat so loud and the ushers kept yelling at him and he just kept doing it and eventually he was escorted out of the park. It was totally ridiculous. We also cheated when we stole Bobby Jenks from them to close out 2 of the games.
  10. They are closing down a lot of the downtown area out here or at least thats what htey were saying on the news yesterday. Bunch of BS if you ask me. I think we all know mexican american workers are important to our society, however, at the same time you have to draw the line somewhere since our tax payers are brunting the costs of a lot of illegals. I like the idea of a new amnesty program since in a few years time it should get the whole border situation a little more cleaned up. However, once the amnesty program goes into effect, we should tighten up the borders otherwise so many people will be coming over to take advantage of the program.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) People think he's a good defender because of his arm, I swear. The guy is absolutely horrendous out there. He may have an amazing arm, but the Sox tend to run on him all day long and its the right thing to do. He misses cut off man and rarely throws strikes. If he beats you on a perfect throw so be it, cause its so damn rare for him to really make a good throw. And the guy is horrid, he'll drop 3-4 routine balls a year and that doesn't speak of the balls he lets drop because he is one of the few worse defensive right fielders in the game. Garret Anderson is probably one of the worse defensive left fielders in the game too. The Angels need Erstad to regain his gold glove days in the OF ASAP cuase they got 2 AWFUL outfielders around him.
  12. If someone is implying Maggs was a poor defensive outfielder they are wrong. He wasn't a GGer, but he was a little above average out there, imo. Now if your referring to having Everett out there after Maggs got hurt, well in that case you'd be correct...Dye is lightyears better.
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 05:45 AM) His defense isnt underrated to his team, or to us as fans. Name recognition usually goes hand in hand with selecting a Gold Glove, and guys like Guerrero have the sexy stat "outfield assists" to help them along. If there was a "game saving catch" stat or "diving catch" stat, I think Dye would be a regular gold glover. Ummmm, I don't think there is a person in baseball that would tell you Vladdy is a better defensive outfielder than Dye. Vladdy may be the worse right fielder in all of baseball (defensively). The guy is hideous out there and thats coming from someone who goes to 30 or so Angel games a year.
  14. Damn Haeger is rolling.
  15. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) As long as we're on this topic... I love Hawk as much as the next guy, but his incessant slobbering over everything White Sox is becoming overkill. I mean, Jesus Christ, you'd think it's impossible for any major league team to win the World Series without Joey Cora coaching 3rd base. /rant. I guess this is what happens after you win a WS. He adds a lot to the broadcast and has a very good personality. I dont' think Blackjack would do full time broadcasting, but if he did and when we eventually replaced Hawk, I'd try to bring BJ in for a set number of games during hawks final season and put him with DJ and hawk in a 3 man booth to allow him to gel and than eventually turn things to DJ and Black Jack.
  16. QUOTE(Lefty Of Love @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) I thought one of the best broadcast teams was when they brought Robin Ventura up to the booth and it was him DJ and Hawk. Having a 3rd person really deflated any perceived tension between Hawk and DJ. I dont know how common it is in baseball to have a 3-man squad and Robin said he didnt want to be a broadcaster, but that handful of games they all worked together was good stuff. I'm a fan of 3 man booths. I love the Yanks booth.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) You all are making a mountain out a molehill. I could really give less than a damn if Gage was broadcasting a game if we're doing well... I'll take that as a compliment. I may be bad, but I don't think I'd RUIN the broadcast.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) I thought their banter was better when I heard them on some WGN games. I remember like 2 years ago when they sounded ready to fight over a shady homerun call. I don't know if I could listen without DJ in the booth. He's really gotten better. I've long said if I were in a front office position I'd bring DJ in to interview for the managerial position or at least make a recommendation for him as a coach on the managers staff. I'm a HUGE DJ fan. He's one of my favorite TV guys in all of baseball. Behind Vin Scully (Just the Man), Michael Kay, Whimpy and a few others that aren't on my mind right now. I'm not a fan of the NESN booth though.
  19. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) Hawk = Big Ego Wimpy = Laid back, loose/easy attitude + became more popular and Hawk did not like it Add in some general tension and poof, Hawk, the bigger star and kiss ass, won and remained in the booth and Wimpy went bye-bye. Personally, I still like Hawk on the broadcasts, but I loved him and Wimpy together. I feel HAwk and DJ have never developed any good chemistry. I think Whimpy is doing all the games for the Nationals this year. The three Nats games I watched this season had him in the booth. I nkow for a while he was only doing a limited amount of games. Its good hearing him back full time.
  20. Its really nice to see Charlotte doing well for once. Razor is one of those guys that takes no guff and gets the most out of his players. They seem to play fundementally out of him and he wins. I'd think someone would take a long hard look at him over the next couple years when it comes to offering him a major league job.
  21. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) I worked for the Kane County Cougars when he was there, he dominated Single-A ball. I guess other organizations were scouting him, in fact I saw Jerry Krause there one day, and I'm guessing he was scouting for the Yankees. I believe later that summer Sierra was traded from the Cougars to the Yankees for Chris Hammond if I'm not mistaken. Sierra has good stuff, and I'd love to see him make it big for the South Siders. CWSOX45 There is an article on the FutureSox board about this, but he was part of the Chacon deal. Here's a link to a story giving some details on what he throws and all that stuff. http://www.futuresox.com/frontpage/modules...order=0&thold=0
  22. It should be noted that Sierra has pitched a few games in spring training the past couple years.
  23. Sox Claim Eduardo Sierra By Jason Gage FutureSox.com The Chicago White Sox claimed RHP Eduardo Sierra off waivers from the Colorado Rockies. Sierra pitched in 6 games for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (AAA) going 0-0 with a 5.14 ERA in 6 games. In 7 innings of work, he gave up 7 hits and 6 walks, while striking out 7. Sierra was sent to Birmingham (AA) and was added to the Sox 40 man roster, which now stands at 35. Sierra was initially signed by the Oakland Athletics in 1999 as an un-drafted free agent. After spending 6 years in the A’s organization, he moved on to the Yankee’s where he spent the entire 2004 season as the closer for the Yanks High A affiliate (Tampa). Sierra remained in the Yanks organization until the middle of 2005, when he was traded to the Colorado Rockies as part of the Shawn Chacon deal. At the time of the trade, Sierra had made a lot of progress and had developed into one of the Yanks better relief prospects (3-1, 3.28 ERA in 33 games for AA Trenton). Sierra’s fastball was rated among the best in the Yanks farm system and the Rockies recent strategy had been to target fastball pitchers due to the altitude hurting breaking ball pitchers. Sierra’s right arm attracted the Sox as well. The 24 year old righty has averaged 8.06 strikeouts per game during his 6 year minor league career. However, Sierra has struggled with his command throughout the minors, averaging almost 5 walks per game (4.92). His walk numbers have actually regressed over the course of his minor league career which is a definite cause of concern and one of the reasons the Sox were able to claim Sierra. The White Sox staff will now see if they can harness Sierra’s heater, which has been clocked as high as 98 MPH. While Sierra can rare back and reach 98, he consistently throws in the 94-95 MPH range and compliments his fastball with a plus splitter and a solid slider. FS Take: Stuff has never been a problem for Sierra and if the organization can improve his control, they may have found a future set up man at the major league level.
  24. Emailed around...this guy has a million dollar arm and no control. Working on a writeup right now.
