It is pretty damn smart of them to totally underprice the market. The system's specs are purely pedestrian but I think they will get a lot of sales based on the price, plus you may see a lot of people pick it up as a secondary system because Nintendo tends to have some great multi-player games. Hell, I still play the old school, super nintendo Mario Kart (that game freaking rocks). That said I'll be grabbing an Xbox 360 or PS3 (regardless I'll be buying a PS3 to flip on ebay) when the College Baseball game comes out. If the PS3 is 500 bucks, well than it will make my decision of picking up a 360 really easy.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) The Herd on ESPN Radio, although for you Chicagoans, he is not on up there due to the talentless Silvy and Carmen. Chicago would be much better suited getting the Herd. The Herd is outstanding. Probably my favorite radio show. I still like the Dan Patrick Show 2nd, but its nowhere near where it once was (back when Dibs was the cohost).

s***ty s***ty story Mike. Makes the cold I'm suffering for during crunch time seem minimal. Good to hear your alright and hopefully that presentation went well (if you could even think). I do think you got a viable excuse (teach my ears are ringing from having my car totaled).

Baseball America's Rule V Draft Preview
Chisoxfn replied to southsideirish71's topic in FutureSox Board
Umm, maybe I'm crazy, but its not like the Reds are oozing with good players. If this guy was any good I'd think they'd have him on their 40 man roster. Call me skeptical although he had a monster AFL. -
The game isn't till tomorrow right?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) For his overated offense you mean. Here's the thing with his offense. When he is absolutely on fire you don't see the Bulls really pull out or extend leads. I think there is something to be said for that and I really don't think he's near the player some make him out to be (I am pretty sure you tend to feel similar as I do qwerty).

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) How about this one: "Juan Uribe will make $4.15 million in 2007 and a team option for $5 million in 2008 if he is still with the White Sox." For the record, Valido would make $330k or so if he was ready to play in the majors. For equal defense, if he hits anywhere near what Uribe hits, .260 with occassional power, it would be stupid to pay Uribe 4-5 million in lieu of Valido... Uribe contract status: Juan Uribe: signed 3-year deal worth 9.75M thru the 2007 season on 12/16/04- he will make 2.15M in 2005, 3.15M in 2006 and 4.15M in 2007- + the deal includes a 5M Team Option for 2008 or a 300K buyout Agent: Scot Boras?/Martin Arburua? Service Time: 3.089 I don't think it would be equal defense. Every one of Uribe's tools (except speed) is better than Valido's. If Uribe continues to develop there is no reason he won't be the starting shortstop on the southside for a long time.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) Those would be two excellent moves in my opinion. 1.) Sign Mike Myers. 2.) Trade Damaso Marte to the Padres for Sean Burroughs. The trade actually makes sense for both teams. The Padres don't have any established lefty relievers on their 25-man roster. Burroughs supposedly plays gold glove defense at third base and also can play some second base. After a trade like this, our offseason would be complete. And the Score is reporting that Kenny is looking for a utility infielder and looking to sign a lefty so he can possibly trade Marte. You guys know how stupid it would be for the Sox to trade a left handed arm like Marte for Burroughs. It would be assinine. Get your heads out of your butts and realize that despite a down season, he's still one of the better lefty relievers in the game. He still has great stuff and got himself into a funk, but there is no reason to do something stupid like trading him for Sean Burroughs only to sign a guy thats not as good as him (Mike Myers). Marte isn't about to get traded and it doesn't sound like Kenny has much any more moves on tap.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 07:36 AM) Vazquez is a head case. No thank you. Keep Garland for '06. TB would want a few players that are garunteed for 3 to 4 years down the road. Vazquez is average.
-
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 05:54 AM) The main thing on this is the Garland situation. The Trib sounded like there are still negotiations. If he is locked up long term I could see McCarthy being moved. I would want more than Crawford though, that is for sure. If Garland is not going to sign long term I think he could be moved especially in a three way deal. Another issue is that it sounded like the Sox have thought of using a 6 man rotation due to the WBC. They won't move McCarthy cause he's the lone starter that will be cheap for the next couple years (and will be a total bargain if he continues to develop). Considering what they will be paying the other 4, its kind of necessary and helpful for them to have that youngster in the 5th spot that can pitch.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:04 AM) He isnt even rumored to get that much from other teams how would that be a discount? Aren't the Indians offering 3yrs 24 million (ie 8 million a year).

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) Verducci gives nothing more than anecdotal evidence from one year. Oh yeah, it's clear. Oh wait, it's ONE YEAR! and only pitchers who changed leagues. Talk about a limitted set. What did guys whose last name starts with P bat in the first road game of a series in 2004, compared to their season average. would you draw conclusions from that? Give me some real data... All pitchers who changed leagues, corrected for park and year, since the advent of the DH. I'd wager that the difference is about .3 in ERA when swithing leagues, significantly lower than the .95 that Verducci cites. Ya, a full run is ridiculous. Plus when it comes to relievers, they aren't going to suffer from the lack of a pitcher because how often does a closer face the opposing teams pitcher (they don't). Now they won't be facing a DH, but they will likely be facing the opposing teams best pinch hitter (if the pitchers spot is up or another weak spot in the lineup). I'd reckon to say there isn't much any of a difference in terms of a closer between the AL and NL. Thanks cheat for pointing this out. I'm sorry, I just laugh at people who throw out really weird stats from time to time. No one is going to convince me its a full run of a difference. I will agree with about .3, that seems very reasonable. However, I think there is some variance. When it comes to a really mediocre pitcher, I think they will see a bit more of a jump when they switch leagues and when it comes to an ace like pitcher, I think they will have a minimal jump in ERA.

f***ing pathetic. Gordon goes and shoots us out of the game in the 2nd half. He could at least take some quality shots. The only reason we were in that game was because Deng was playing agressive offensively and getting some good looks (and earning them too). I hate our offense when Gordon is on the court. The ball movement ends and he either shoots you into the game or out. Hell, has anyone ever noticed that even when Gordon is totally on fire (and this happens often) the team doesn't really see its lead extend much. Its because he's f***ing hideous on defense and will turn the ball over a few times a game on offense (if he was a starter it would be even worse). Hell we even had to deal with him as the PG for a few minutes which made things even worse. Ben Gordon's got to go. I don't know what his upside is. Obviously he could score 30 points a night if he was a starter and shot all day long, but he has no idea how to let an offense run and he's a boob of a passer and terrible defensively. The Bulls have some problems but they would have been better had they drafted both Igu and Deng. Thank goodness we have Deng. The good news is I think Gordon has pretty high trade value, I just wonder whether the Bulls will be agressive and gutsy enough to deal Gordon (I know they'd hate to have them bite em in the ass) but what the hell can Gordon do? Tell me of one player whose won his team an NBA championship with a PG's height but a Sg's mentality who can't play any defense and has no idea how to work an offense (don't say AI because AI can at least play some defense and knows how to get to the line, plus last I looked his team has made one NBA championship and will never ever win a thing with him and that guy has more heart than anyone in the NBA). Fact is this team will go nowhere with Gordon. If you can package him and Tim Thomas for someone good (I don't know if thats possible) or even move Gordon for a bigger young player (whom the Bulls like) in a straight up type swap I'd do it. It would allow Hinrich to go back to point and we could have Duhon coming off the bench with Deng and whoever we got for Ben starting (with Noc coming off the bench). Plus it makes even more sense when you picture Peja over here.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) I didn't intend to suggest anyone on Soxtalk (atleast on this thread-- ) are Beane apologists. Just my sarcastic manner of addressing Beane's Disciples. Nothing posted within this thread influenced my post. Alright just making sure I inferred correctly and I know what your talking about. Hell, I'm one of the few that feels he's over-rated. Now I almost think he makes moves to try and find ways to become even more beloved and more amazing (for what he can do with a small market club). I know he traded away his pitchers and got some good prospects but I don't see how it made sense to deal away Hudson because of salary and than go get an overpaid guy like Kendall (albeit it wasn't exactly a financial wash). Time will tell though and thus far our GM has one more World Series Ring
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) I don't even need to browse Oakland related threads anymore on Soxtalk. I hear any rumor relating to an Oakland player under trade consideration, and I assume Beane will swindle the opposition. He's so gosh darn smart. No playoff series victories will lend you that consideration. Are you implying how Beane seems to be worshiped by most on here?

That seems like a pretty fair trade. Ramos has been around for a while (in the minors, IIRC) and Saaraloos seemed to come into his own. The Dodgers would be getting a solid 4th or 5th starter and a prospect which isn't bad considering they want to unload Bradley badly. It gives the A's a pretty good bat and if he stays healthy and keeps his mouth shut he's one of the better outfielders in baseball (offensively).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) Ya..well I have finals next week. By making this site, I credit you with the down fall of me, academically. This should be better than my prior semester, I had finals going on the same time that the sox were in town for a 4 game series. Somehow i was able to go to 3 of the 4 games and increase my GPA, lol. Of course this year I'm suffering major senioritis and am seriously behind in my studies. I cant wait till next Thursday when my last final is over.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) I'm still not gonna count out the Pads out of the Hoffman race. A few weeks ago, everyone thought Giles was done in San Diego, but it wasn't the case. But then Kevin Towers and Sandy Alderson had to offer him 2 years $10M in this current market didn't they. OOPS. Hoffman will take a hometown discount and 2yr 16 mill would do it (I think he'd take a year less or even do something like a 3yr 18 mill deal).

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) I'm pretty sure it's illegal (Due to licensing restrictions) for them to change the name on the back of your jersey to that of a current player, atleast that's what Triple Threat Sports says. Thats odd, I figured they could do it, especially since you can buy a blank jersey and put whatever name on it to begin with. Really weird, but who knows, maybe it depends on the type of jersey. I think that you can with authentic.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) Did you see the Nambla genre? Has Jason as a background vocal on nearly every track listed. 20 years from now when I run for president: I'm going to be at the press conference to announce my intentions of running when a reporter my age (with the last name Bozich) asks me about the rumors that I was once the president of NAMBLA.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:58 PM) Jason, not sure if this is true, buy Minny has supposedly cooled on Mueller due to the Castillo trade ... it's a $$$ issue. That would make a lot of sense. I figure once the Dodgers entered the picture (plus you have the Cards) that the Twins were going to have no chance. The Twins still need to move Hunter (unless they plan on keeping him). Its too bad he's on the Twins, cause I'd have no problem having him, although he doesn't exactly fit in with Ozzie's plans for a 2 hole hitter, lol.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) If you have Young and Crawford and somehow Owens fits in there. That's a amazing rangy outfield, with 40+ sb potential all the way through. That is exciting. Speed doesn't equate to a good defensive outfield and an Owens/Young/Crawford outfield would be poor, imo. Young has the ability to be above avg, Crawford is an above Avg left fielder but no one could play right and Owens is not a good defensive player (and thats as a left fielder).
