  1. I think its more that Grossman hasn't gotten many reps yet this year so they are going to try and work him a little more than the usual backup so he is prepared if something happens to Orton. I still say if you go to Grossman and he doesn't take off, than you have a full blown QB controversy on your hands and that is probably the worse thing (aside from a serious injury to a star player) that could happen to this team. Because of that I still say its Ortons job until he really stinks it up and him stinking totally costs them a game.
  2. Extra prayers go out right now. Really sorry to hear about that steff. Hopefully he finds a way to pull through.
  3. I also want to say there is only one argument that I think is truly viable from the left side. I would want to know why the Iraqi army (which has now had a relatively long time to traing) is still being babied around. I would like to see us be able to slowly start pulling out troops and putting more of the responsibility on the Iraqi army. Afterall, they have been trained 2 to 3 times as long as the normal troop that joins the army and than is shipped to Iraq after 6 months of training. If the Iraqi army isn't capable of that (and I assume they aren't since we haven't really given them an increased amount of responsibility) than I want to know what people are doing to improve there training methods so the Iraqi soldiers can figure things out.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Until we stop doing it. Thats right, I forgot, president Bush is the one over there toturing people. Oh wait, no he's not and yet people seem to generalize that the whole freaking army is toturing individuals. Thats like saying every Sox fan is William Lique. Don't let the extremely vast minority allow you to make a false opinion on the majority of soldiers.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Man, I can never figure out why some of you Republicans just assume that everything which happens in the Democratic party has to do directly with the influence of Hillary Clinton. The "Clinton" faction, including a lot of Clinton's old people, were quite strongly opposed to Dean during the primaries, and many of them opposed Dean when he was running for the DNC. I think it's pretty doubtful based on policy positions that Dr. Dean would have Hillary as his first choice for the DNC nomination in 2008. I see no reason at all why we should give any credence at all to the theory that this is somehow related to Hillary's grand master plan. For cripes sakes it was the Clinton people that pulled the plug on the Dean campaign. Its no secret either, the Clinton people were very behind the attack on Dean (especially following his marvelous speach).
  6. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) I expect nothing less. Those polls are meaningless. Its like putting up a poll on Soxtalk asking if the White Sox are good.
  7. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/06/dean.iraq/index.html Typical drivel from this blowhard idiot. Guys like this would have quit on WW2 because it was too hard, would have quit the Civil War because there were too many casualties and would never have fought the Revolutionary War because it was too difficult. You also have Senator Kerry making this accusations about how crappy our troops are and how they are treating the Iraqi's horribly and invading their rights. Comments like that sicken me.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Yeah, out here it starts raining and people wind up dead just because they're going too fast for the conditions. If it ever snows out here again (and we as a nation are doing our best to make sure it wont) there will be a lot of dead people out here. Seriously, It will be pouring rain and you'll see idiots flying by you at 75-85 on the freeway. They have no idea that when it rains you need to slow down.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) So you're going to try to drive around Los Angeles? I don't know how you guys live in the LA basin. I'd be dangerous after a few weeks of having to drive in that crap. The few times a year I drive down there I usually end up going insane and swearing off ever going back to LA. And its not like there isn't traffic in OC, its just there is traffic everywhere in LA, and I mean EVERYWHERE.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) He's not a good defensive cf that is for sure, so that's a fair point. I'd love him offensively though but obviously me and you have different opinions on this so no biggy. You and I are on one side, Keith and a few others are on another side of this argument.
  11. QUOTE(Ricky3353 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) I heard Phil Rodgers on the score today and he said he wasnt too thrilled with this deal. The two pitching prospects (not Mitre) are suppossed to be big time, right behind rich hill and angel guzman in the organization. Pierre sucks anyway. He might swipe 50 bags but his on base percentage in atrocious and he has a weaker arm than my grandma. I'd rate them both ahead of Guzman. Guzman has had his fair share of arm troubles and while he is more talented than the two names, I prefer two guys that haven't had a history of injury problems (plus they both have pretty good stuff too).
  12. Last I heard on the radio (this was a while ago) was that it would be either Lowe or Penny. Let me be the 1st to say if the Dodgers can move one of those guys (and there larger contracts) for Abreu than I think it would be a good move. At the same time, they both are good pitchers (I wouldn't call either great) who would help Philly (since they are looking for pitching). Coletti has been a very agressive GM and he has a very strong system to use (whether he wants to develop a few guys this year or to use some of those guys to get him quality major leaguer players). The problem is he has JD Drew and Odalis Perez on the books and both of them should be long gone (too bad Drew has zero trade value).
  13. The score reported that Rex Grossman was upgraded to the backup spot (behind Kyle Orton) which moves Jeff Blake to the 3rd string role. Grossman also took 25% of the snaps with the 1st team in practice today. Lovie had issued a warning (in a sense) to Orton following the Packers game (to improve the offense) and if the team struggles early on or falls behind against Pitt you may see Rex. We'll see how Orton handles the competition and if he elevates his game a bit.
  14. Trust me, teams like Boston, New York and maybe even St. Louis will at least give him a call and offer up 16-20 million for 1 year.
  15. The Astro's won't be able to negotiate with him until May.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) I don't get this trade at all. Lorreta is a damn good hitter. Ya, this makes zero sense to me. I figured they'd get Boomer, but without him I'm left puzzled.
  17. Good move by the Dbacks. I'm not a big fan of either of those pitchers and when Estrada is healthy he's a pretty good hitting catcher.
  18. Not a bad move by either team. Its basically a swap of talented guys that haven't lived up to there hype. Brazelton has a really live arm and the change of scenery could do him well. I don't quite get this move from the Drays perspective, but I guess they want some 3rd base depth (especially after they move Huff).
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Jas, Horner is day-to-day. Cool, thanks for the update.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Grampa just called.. Joey IS strong enough for surgery and they are preping him immediately. Should take about 3 hours. This is GREAT news as just 8 hours ago he was NOT strong enough. Thats tremendous news. It looks like things are definately improving and my thoughts are with the entire family Hopefully you'll all be able to celebrate in a few hours and know that the worst is behind.
  21. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 08:56 AM) Where'd you see this? That's badass if true. Seriously, that would be awesome.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) I'll take Willis, and realize that not only do you have a lefty with great stuff, but you also have a charismatic superstar who will sell tickets. McCarthy is way too much of an unknown right now. Ya, this is a no brainer move for me and I am a huge Bmac fan. Fish wouldn't do it though.
  23. Cubs got there guy but the Marlins got some good arms.
  24. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) I don't think Davis played with Woolridge at all because Davis and Dean Oliver were both freshmen at Iowa in 98. I know that since Oliver also went to the high school I went to like Jeff Horner did. Woolridge's last year was right before that in 97. Thanks for cleraing that up. It all kind of blends in for me. I knew it was either the same year or one year apart.
  25. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) haha Jess Settles, he was there for a better part of the 90's. Kinda of like the Van Wilder of Iowa, there about 7 years, no clue about the parties. I've liked Gonzaga for a long time because my favorite NBA was John Stockton. Ya, Settles was really good when he was 1st there and than injured his back. If I recall he had a redshirt season and than something like two medical red shirts. I always remember Kent McCausland lighting it up from beyond the arc (I think at least one of his years he was right around the countries best 3 point shooter), with Bowen, Settles and it must have been Woolridge at the time. Those were some pretty solid Hawk teams. I remember I got to see Tom Davis last game with the Hawkeyes (maybe I've gone crazy though, but I think he lost in the tourney and it was his final game...I'm thinking it was when Uconn knocked us out the year they won it all).
