I know as a boy scout we always gave the younger scouts hell. We were the oldest patrol in our troop and considered ourselves the senior and greatest patrol Boy Scouts was fun, even though I fell a little short of Eagle.
  2. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) Hyatt says the packages can't be booked until October 15th. This conflicts with what the Soxfest hotline and website says. I emailed Brooks on this and am awaiting response. I was thinking this is too early to book the packages. I was gonna ask if we should just book it now, but you answered that for me
  3. ROFL, I saw you guys make this post when it was just the two of you. I had no idea what the hell you were doing. It all makes sense now...Congrats
  4. Whaaa Whaaa Whaaa....screw that judge. All this political correctness BS.
  5. QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) I use the Mach 3 and though by the end of a week shaving gets to be a long process, I use one blade for a week, sometimes even more. Those things are really expensive, but I like 'em. I do the same thing. Of course now I'm growing out something so I'm shaving a lot less (maybe twice a week just to keep the rest of my face clean). I hate shaving.
  6. I'll be there.
  7. White Sox winner. Sox bailed out Jose who pitched solid and Jenks and the pen did its job. Way to end that slump, now lets turn this into a White Sox winning streak Fun times in the game thread
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) I hated that second year of the deal. Okay with the first year, hated the second year. I hated both years, especially the 2nd one.
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Any doubts that he signs a three year deal this off-season? None, my guess is 3 year 21 mill with a 4th year option at around 8.5-9 mill a year. He'll probably make 6 mill next year, 7 mill the following, 8 mill in his final year and than a club buyout for the option on the 4th year that would give him a guaranteed 21 mill.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Ah, I'm the total opposite. AP Euro test in three days, essay due Thursday, 25 pages of full top of the page to bottom of the page text to read, yet I don't do it. Gotta stop procrastinating... Oh, lets not begin to talk about the 10 hr homework assignment I had due today, which I did nothing of. Luckily you don't get graded in college for homework (that was my downfall in high school). Hopefully I do good on this test cause I approached it lazier than usual. Its hard to focus now that I got my job lined up for when I graduate, but I'll find a way to get er done.
  11. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) Is garland a FA after this season? No the Sox control his rights for one more year.
  12. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) fill me in folks we getting it done in the ninth? Top of the 9th and the Sox are up 2. Rowand had a basehit.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Worst case scenario: Do you still think we'll raise payroll that much if Sox don't make the playoffs? I won't talk about the Sox and playoffs, but regardless of the outcome this year, you will see a good size raise. Minimum this payroll will be 80 million and if they win in September, they will have a payroll at a minimum of 85 million.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Yeah, I have to say that this gamethread = the best. Lots of fun tonight, hopefully they can cap it off with a WSW. Plus I actually liked the rain delay. Meant I was able to finish all my homework and study longer for my test that I got in the morning. Well that and I actually get to watch a game late at night (10:20 out here) which is a nice change of pace.
  15. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) They have nearly 70 million invested in 16 players next year i have just read. That seems kinda high to me but i have not checked to see if it was accurate or not. Either way, i would rather up grade at mutiple positions than just one... especially considering the guy we would be paying twelve millio has only had one great year and one solid one. Thats not accurate. Not at all. Sox payroll currently stands at 75 million roughly. Remove Konerko/Thomas/Everett's contracts from the books and that will push the payroll far lower. Konerko will probably get a 4 mill raise, so you could say that the Sox will save about 7 million between losing Thomas/Everett which would put the club at roughly 68 million. Than you got a raise to Garland (2-3 mill), raises to Buehrle and any other arb players. Basically put, the current roster sans Everett/Thomas and with all raises will be right around 72 million. Than you deal Marte and Duque and the payroll is in the 66 mill range with McCarthy replacing Brandon and the Sox needing to find someone to replace Duque. Payroll will be at least 85 million next year, so that gives the Sox roughly 20 million to play with to fill DH/3rd/lefty reliever and add a bench player or two. Plus if they want to give anyone else raises they can do that as well.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) Whew.....Pods didn't exactly get a good jump on that flyball. When does Pods get a good jump?
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) He has played over 150 games five times now ( gonna be six) and has over 500 at-bats six times in his career... hardly was his first full season last year. It was his first full season of doing really well though... will give you that. I am not saying he doesn't have the potential to be really good and stay really good for years and year... but i rather not be the sucker paying him 12 million a year when we have money problems as is. I should add, 12 million a year is more than the Sox paid Everett and Thomas combined last year. The Sox can afford to pay Beltre 12 million.

I meant to say 1st full healthy season.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) I just want to know who will trade for him? I say deal him, Marte for Chad Tracy (and try to get something else from Arizona). If they want Fields too, fine by me. I really like Chad Tracy and think he'd be a tremendous fit in this offense. Could DH most of the time, ocassionally spelling Konerko at 1st and whoever is playing 3rd. I should add, it is a must to sign Konerko. There is no option of not resigning him. It will be way too difficult to lose Konerko and bring in 3 new bats, considering the ineptness of this years FA crop.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) Hermanson might need back surgery, so I doubt his value will be high. I'd rather keep him, and let him be a versatile reliever. As I'm sure you know, myself and others have been saying Marte was going to get traded over the offseason. Obviously, that's almost a given now. I wouldn't be shocked to see a trade of Contreras and Marte for Overbay. Plus Hermy's contract is a great value.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) You put Beltre on a team with a home field where the opposite field is a great power alley, and he would hit 35 homers easily at the Cell. My only concern with him is that he seems to get dinged up every game. He's a tough guy, plasy through his injuries. I mean, I don't even need to bring up the fact that he put up the greatest numbers of any 3rd baseman (in one season) and thats just my opinion all in a pitchers park known as Chavez Ravine (Dodger Stadium).
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Podsednik doing what he does best..... Make outs on the basepaths. The guy needs to stop running. He's turning into Juan Uribe on the paths (an instant out when stealing).
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Also, Crede with a big hit, hopefully Pods can go back up the middle to drive him in.
  24. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Well, he fits in with the whole latin familia thing, and at least he gives you some stability at the position. My faith in Fields panning out, obviously, isn't too high. Get me Beltre, and if Konerko isn't resigned, Overbay. Giving up the prospects will be a drag, but you're getting two next year from the arbitration picks from PK. Move McCarthy into the rotation, El Duque as our Glendon Rusch long reliever/spot starter type. Grab a couple of NRI's, and let's head to Tuscon. El Duque will not be a member of the White Sox by spring training next year. You can take that to the bank.
