I definately think Ritchie is a better pitcher then last year, but if money is such an issue with the Sox, I would rather have 2 starters then just Ritchie. Of course, maybe I'm wrong and thats not how it will end up.
-
Ted Turner no longer owns the Braves, AOL does and they have constantly said they will cut payroll. They want it to stay around 80 million, no higher.
-
Basically if the Sox bring Ritchie back it will cost them 3 million. Am I the only one that thinks the Sox would be better off signing Daal and Valdes and letting Ritchie go at 3 million? They'd get a lefty and righty, both that are decent and wouldn't cost much at all.
-
I think their is truth that the Sox are the mystery team.
-
Plus, I think at the money Clemens would want the Sox would have many more affordable options that could put up similar numbers.
-
Quickly, I'm gonna jot some names down as options still out their... -Omar Daal (FA) -Ismael Valdes (FA) -Roger Clemens (FA) -James Baldwin (FA) -Brad Penny (FLA) -Ryan Dempster (CIN) -Braves Pitcher (ATL) -Sidney Ponson (BALT) -Andy Ashby (LA) -Brian Lawrence (SD) -Livan Hernandez (SF)

Lol, thats a good one :metal

Well, according to the USA Today, the Sox are one of the three teams with the shot at getting Colon. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/20...s-dealing_x.htm Its a decent read. The weird thing is, for the past week, we've heard a slim shot at it, but no major affiliate will report it.
-
Well, now that I think about it, wouldn't a three deam deal of made more sense? Giants get Moss and Braves Prospect, Braves get Konerko, Sox get Ortiz and Ainsworth. I do think KW will be talking to the Braves. ESPN says Maddux will likely get a ton of money in Arbitration and I can't doubt that.
-
26 Year Old Sidney Ponson is also out their. Carlos Lee for Ponson would still work, imo. Although, I don't want to give up Carlos Lee.
-
Is Ismael Valdes all that bad of an option? He seems to be getting a lot less pub then Omar Daal, but if you compare numbers, Valdes may of had the better season. First off Ismael pitched in the American League, and did so in the toughest division in baseball, the American League West. He went 8-12 with a 4.18 era and through 196 innings, making 31 starts, with one complete game. Opponents hit just .257 against him and in his career, they hit .255 against him. Could he of figured things back out? How about signing this guy for like a million bucks. I was always a huge fan of his back in his days with the Dodgers and he's only 29 years old. He doesn't turn 30 until August 21st. Omar Daal 11-9 with a 3.90 era. He made 23 starts and pitched 161.1 innings. Opponents hit just .39 off of him. Career wise they have hit .264 against him. He turns 31 on March 1st and is looking for a long term deal with 3 million a year. Seems to me like the safer bet would be to get Valdes as you wouldn't be tying things up long term.

Or a 3rd baseman or outfielder. It all depends on where they decide to stick Chipper.
-
IT makes sense for both sides involved. The question is who will they be willing to move. Of course, I think they do this only if they get Maddux back, which all signs point to yes. The Braves still need first base help. I actually think Carlos Lee would make more sense for them though, as they aren't looking to pick up salary. Heck, they could even be interested in someone like Liefer. We'll have to wait a week or so and see if anything comes up.
-
Terms aren't disclosed, but he's now off the list. Its quickly looking like the Sox only option will be plan b or a blockbuster deal. Also, it looks as if the Braves are going to be getting Greg Maddux back as Scott Boras is hinting they will accept arbitration, which will keep him a Brave for at least one more season.
-
Ya, they gave up a second good prospect. Still, Honel is our premier prospect, they didn't give up their premier prospect and a quality major league pitcher. Either way I do agree that the Braves did give up more then the so called Sox offer.
-
Thats a pretty stinking good rotation. It got them a lot younger and they saved a ton of money. Their gm may know what he's doing after all. I like the idea of Clemens. Right now it appears that if the Yanks get Colon, his options are the Red Sox, and the Texas teams. None of the Texas teams have the money to bring him in, and the Red Sox so far haven't been interested, leaving the Sox out their, if that is true.
-
I think the Twins should pick him up as their ace.
-
Do they just stick with plan B or consider going after someone like Andy Ashby or sign a Paul Byrd. Of course Colon and Vazquez are still out their and the Reds are supposedly willing to deal Dempster and the Marlins could be willing to deal Penny. Also, Sidney Ponson is still out their as well. Personally, I'd still like to see that rumored 8 player deal or at least see the Sox try to get Colon without giving up Garland.

SN Report: Koch Deal Done, Sox Get Cotts, Holt
Chisoxfn replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ya, O'Neal is the only guy that interests me. Thanks for the info Doub. -
Great post. I think Ortiz would of definately been able to win 18-20, but hey, the Braves got him at a higher price. I will continue to say that would of been like us trading Garland or maybe Wright for Ortiz. Of course I would of probably done Wright for Ortiz, but it still wouldn't really solve the rotation, it would just be an upgrade. Interesting to see what Jayson Stark said. I think he's a pretty reliable reporter, much more so, then say Peter Gammons.

Welcome Aboard hold2dibbler. I'm glad I have at least someone uttering the same thing I am. The only thing Rogers is saying that those names were mentioned, but you don't know who was doing the mentioning or if it was even a deal, they could of still been discussing players. Also, Cubkilla, the Braves were rumored to be after him yesterday (I Know you missed a lot of the stuff that happenned earlier in the day, but they were very interested as well)
-
Lol, at least with crack you lose weight or something like that. Isn't that what the models take?
-
I wasn't for trading Konerko for Ortiz, but Ortiz has been an above .500 pitcher for the last four seasons. And, according to the above posts, KW sat on a Ortiz for Liefer/Harris/Malone deal. Sitting on that deal for an above .500 pitcher the last four seasons when the team you GM needs starting pitching badly is unacceptable. The fact that Atlanta wasn't mentioned last night and now they have Ortiz proves that someone was skeptical of pulling the trigger on the above deal. Considering SF was looking to trim payroll, that only leaves one person..... KW!!!!!   They don't say he sat on it, they say that those were some of the names passed. We don't know if thats what he offered or if thats what Sabean offered.
-
"Immediately" is the key thought here Chisoxfn. If KW sat on that offer and, by sitting on it, Atlanta was able to move in with the better offer, then KW should be FIRED!!!!! Goddamn..... that was relatively nothing for Ortiz!            Well if we were giving up Malone and Harris I could see sitting on it. Plus, we don't know if Sabean was negotiating with both sides at the same time, trying to increase the value. I know the Braves were interested in yesterday as well.
