  1. Terms aren't disclosed, but he's now off the list. Its quickly looking like the Sox only option will be plan b or a blockbuster deal. Also, it looks as if the Braves are going to be getting Greg Maddux back as Scott Boras is hinting they will accept arbitration, which will keep him a Brave for at least one more season.
  2. Ya, they gave up a second good prospect. Still, Honel is our premier prospect, they didn't give up their premier prospect and a quality major league pitcher. Either way I do agree that the Braves did give up more then the so called Sox offer.
  3. Thats a pretty stinking good rotation. It got them a lot younger and they saved a ton of money. Their gm may know what he's doing after all. I like the idea of Clemens. Right now it appears that if the Yanks get Colon, his options are the Red Sox, and the Texas teams. None of the Texas teams have the money to bring him in, and the Red Sox so far haven't been interested, leaving the Sox out their, if that is true.
  4. I think the Twins should pick him up as their ace.
  5. Do they just stick with plan B or consider going after someone like Andy Ashby or sign a Paul Byrd. Of course Colon and Vazquez are still out their and the Reds are supposedly willing to deal Dempster and the Marlins could be willing to deal Penny. Also, Sidney Ponson is still out their as well. Personally, I'd still like to see that rumored 8 player deal or at least see the Sox try to get Colon without giving up Garland.
  6. Ya, O'Neal is the only guy that interests me. Thanks for the info Doub.
  7. Great post. I think Ortiz would of definately been able to win 18-20, but hey, the Braves got him at a higher price. I will continue to say that would of been like us trading Garland or maybe Wright for Ortiz. Of course I would of probably done Wright for Ortiz, but it still wouldn't really solve the rotation, it would just be an upgrade. Interesting to see what Jayson Stark said. I think he's a pretty reliable reporter, much more so, then say Peter Gammons.
  8. Welcome Aboard hold2dibbler. I'm glad I have at least someone uttering the same thing I am. The only thing Rogers is saying that those names were mentioned, but you don't know who was doing the mentioning or if it was even a deal, they could of still been discussing players. Also, Cubkilla, the Braves were rumored to be after him yesterday (I Know you missed a lot of the stuff that happenned earlier in the day, but they were very interested as well)
  9. Lol, at least with crack you lose weight or something like that. Isn't that what the models take?
  10. I wasn't for trading Konerko for Ortiz, but Ortiz has been an above .500 pitcher for the last four seasons. And, according to the above posts, KW sat on a Ortiz for Liefer/Harris/Malone deal. Sitting on that deal for an above .500 pitcher the last four seasons when the team you GM needs starting pitching badly is unacceptable. The fact that Atlanta wasn't mentioned last night and now they have Ortiz proves that someone was skeptical of pulling the trigger on the above deal. Considering SF was looking to trim payroll, that only leaves one person..... KW!!!!!   They don't say he sat on it, they say that those were some of the names passed. We don't know if thats what he offered or if thats what Sabean offered.
  11. "Immediately" is the key thought here Chisoxfn. If KW sat on that offer and, by sitting on it, Atlanta was able to move in with the better offer, then KW should be FIRED!!!!! Goddamn..... that was relatively nothing for Ortiz!            Well if we were giving up Malone and Harris I could see sitting on it. Plus, we don't know if Sabean was negotiating with both sides at the same time, trying to increase the value. I know the Braves were interested in yesterday as well.

Well, I will continue to say he doesn't deserve to. I don't really care about the fact that he bet on other sports, but this guy bet on baseball, and against the Reds. Their are big time reasons this guy agreed to the life-time ban on baseball as long as the evidence stayed hidden and the buffoon still denies it. I also think many forget that Pete Rose wasn't the first this happened to. Many call it the Rose rule, but Shoeless Joe and others were given the same ban before him, so Pete knew what would happen. Gambling almost ruined the integrity of baseball in the beginning of the 20th century. If you get caught doing it, its simple. Rose should of apologized way back when. If he apologizes now, I don't see it as sympethatic. An apology should not get him back into the everyday life of baseball. If he gets into the hall after admitting it, then I won't be furious, but only if its the Hall of Fame. He's still got to carry out the rest of that ban.

Should the guy be allowed to enter the Hall of Fame?
  14. The only one that looks decent is the guy we got from the Angels. He doesn't have much pitching experience, so he's a project, but he supposedly has decent stuff.
  15. Well, I can only agree with one thing, Clayton's attitude must not of helped the team. I didn't know the guy so I can't say if he's really an ass or not. I thought the guy would be pretty good and I never really hated Clayton, cause he played good defense. This year if Jose plays great, most everyone out their will prove me wrong, but I still don't see him as a shortstop, but I can live with him for another year.
  16. Cubkilla, I agree they were discussing the deal, but from what someone else posted here it was Willie Harris, Jeff Liefer, and Corwin Malone or Josh Stewart. For all we know KW was going to make that deal and then the Braves offer came in. That offer blows ours out of the water. Damian Moss is an awesome pitcher. If we could get him, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  17. I don't think anyone expected him to have a BA of .100 or lower for the first two months of 2001 and 2002. Well, if you looked at his stats, you could kind of expect it. He's typically a slow starter that has one amazing half and is going to catch everything hit to him. Myette is a bum, so we didn't give up anything special.
  18. Well, it looks like neither side could agree. That and the fact that the Braves offer was way better.
  19. As LDF said, Diaz was acquired in the Kenny Lofton deal. Stuff wise, he's compared to Pedro Martinez or Juan Cruz. This kid has one of the best arms in the minor leagues, the question is his health. When the guy is healthy he is a legit ace in waiting, but the question is if he can stay healthy.
  20. Well, it seems like the Expos Gm at least respects him. I know I know, maybe thats because he thinks he'll give up too much for him. Still, maybe KW is figuring things out. Remember, just cause a deal is reported, like Ortiz for prospects, doesn't mean thats all it would of took.
  21. Sorry, but I don't buy that we could of got him for fringe prospects. The Braves gave up a guy in Damian Moss, that I'd take any day of the week over Russ Ortiz. Moss is a young lefty that proved last year he could pitch at the major league level. This was a real foolish move on the Braves part. It would of been a lot like us giving up Garland for Ortiz.
  22. Borchard won't be going anywhere in any deals. Kw has stated Honel and Borchard are untouchable.
  23. Dj is definately the future, but I think we all know JR won't kick out a friend until he is ready to go.
  24. Well, Gammons reported that the Sox were going to make a trade. Right now ESPN is saying that it is Russ Ortiz to the Sox for a package of prospects. Michelle heard that it was Konerko heading to San Fransisco and others have mentioned Konerko as well. Other names being floated are the Sox picking up J.T. Snow and Kurt Ainsworth along with Ortiz.
  25. Well, their hasn't been a deal yet, so you don't really know whats going on. I'm thinking Kenny has turned the Konerko deal down and is just waiting to hear back from Sabean, while Gammons reported it a done deal, like the clown he is.
