  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) I agree, if you're going to throw s***, make sure it has power. He tore up the the Cape Cod League. Very SSS but he was better in the CCL than he was in the B1G. That's with wood bats and top flight talent. This guys stats are good enough where I immediately thought of Feeky when his name was announced. Seems like someone the A's would draft. He's got crazy BABIPs with only slight above speed but he has kept it up over 4+ adequate-ish data sets. I am trying not to get too excited but to CF range with a crazy strong track record at plate out of a senior sign is a really nice value. At the least, he beats the piss out of Louis Lecich who would be 2014 draft equivalent. Again, some of these picks should give the Sox some cash to play with in these next few rounds (or if need be, with Carson, although I'd think he'd end up signing for close to slightly above slot). Hopefully Sox history of pushing their pitching prospects encourages Carson to sign sooner so he can get to work on making the bigs sooner vs. later (since that is where the real payday is anyway).
  2. http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-basebl/spe.../032715aae.html Another good article on our 10th round pick. Nicknamed Glinedrives.
  3. Sick play from our 10th round pick, Jackson Glines, CF, here (reminscent of Jim Edmonds). In general, I like this pick. http://btn.com/2015/05/20/btnstandout-jack...e-diving-catch/
  4. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) If they don't sign Fulmer, they lose his slot money and get the 9th pick next season Your right, had forgotten that. So basically, only way we could make the money work is if either the guy we draft gets hurt and thus taking the money makes more sense or our top pick gets hurt (that or we sign almost everyone we took underslot).
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 03:01 PM) Any chance Sox take Hooper or Sands over slot in round 10? Only chance we sign him is if we can't sign Fulmer (or Fulmer gets hurt during CWS and signs for less money then expected). I suppose as a hedge against that, its not a bad play, but I think their are other guys better suited to take that chance on (and we won't be the only team doing this so it isn't like we can draft all of the guys sitting their that had first few round grades on them).
  6. Joe Demers is a name I like early tomorrow. I think he's the type of guy where you get top few round upside, who might actually be willing to sign for what we could squeeze in (using our allocation). I presume guys like Hopper / Molnar / Beck / Everly are out of the equation. I'd love Hopper...big projectable 6'7 lefty with a power arm but he's not going to get enough. He is UCLA bound (along with Molnar). Beck, with strong committ to Stanford and Everly w/Vandy. Demers is @ Washington which isn't near the baseball program / school as the others I am mentioning.
  7. Cubs take the better senior sign out of Fullerton. Breaking ball guy, Titans closer.
  8. Ryan Hinchley, LHP, University of Illinois (Chicago). 6'3, 205. Drafted as a reliever and struggled largely during his career. 7.09 ERA during 1st three seasons. This is a senior sign and Sox will save money hear. Has flashed plus velocity and has struggled with his control.
  9. Indians selected Garza. We'll see him in their pen in a few years. They seem to have no concerns over guys sitting out with tommy john this draft.
  10. Athletic switch hitter with arm strength, but has to work on his receiving skills. Can hit from both sides of the plate w/more power from right side of the plate. Callis liked the pick. I like the pick.
  11. Casey Schroeder, C, Coastal Carolina
  12. Could be a good time to go with Justin Garza. A guy that would have been top 3 rounds (pre-injury).
  13. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) Wish this team would figure it out and go on a fun run... If only we had some exciting young players on the position front. Sox have to figure out a way to make that happen and unfortunately I don't see how they are going to do it, unless they plan on making some big international splashes.
  14. Sox draft looking up thus far.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) Jace Fry is much better. Erwin is a projectable lefty. It's fine. Probably under slot. Pitchable lefty, not projectable. Guy is a college pitcher, you can throw projectable out the window in terms of velocity. Sure it happens, but I doubt he'll go from pitching in the upper 80's and low 90's to going into the mid 90's. The key is going to be can command that fastball enough and are his secondary pitches good enough to make up for the lack of a plus fastball.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) Smells of Jace Fry Fry touched 96 and pitched consistently in the low 90's. Quite a few tick difference from a guy who pitches more in the 88-90 range.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) #117 on BA's draft board. 7-4 3.04 ERA. Was a reliever up until this year. Perfect game has his fastball at 87 mph, but probably very old report. Meh pick 87-91. Not a velocity guy. Pitchability lefty. I don't like that in round 4. That said, supposed to have some good secondary stuff. Change / Curve.
  18. Zack Erwin, LHP Clemson. Don't like this pick. Reminds me too much of Tyler Lumsden, haha. That said, should have a shot at being a back of rotation guy. Should allow them to save some money hear to potentially use on another guy later.
  19. Sox officially on the clock. Red Sox just took Mike Matheny's son.
  20. Twins with a nice pick in Cabbage.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) hill off the board. McCarthy the lone college player there. Rest probably be hard to sign All depends on how much homework was done. I'd be okay taking the flyer on Everett. Still a lot of money for a HSer to turn down. That is all assuming he isn't repped by Boras. If he is, nevermind.
  22. I'll guess Joe McCarthy out of UVA.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) Lol, was it this? I think Fulmer would have better luck.lol. I was at that game and that was what i presumed he was referencing. Hilariously entertaining.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) i agree, that was another time and in another era of baseball. still it is the sox policy to address the draft this way, i guess it was unlucky that the sox got their marching orders from the owners. They didn't get their marching order from the owner. The front office made a decision to filter more money to the pro side and ignore the development side and it showed. We still haven't hit on the equation or solved the problem as we can not produce good hitters and really need to evaluate what is going on their from a development perspective. The hard thing is, it takes a long time to see if changes you made from a draft to development perspective were the right or wrong decisions. Is their some luck in the process, sure, but over time, it is a skill. Some franchises are better then others and that is to their credit. They put guys in the best position to succeed and get the most out of them more often then others.
  25. Justin Garza is a name I like later on today. JR at Fullerton who has been a horse for 2.5 years, however, he got hurt late this season and needed Tommy John. Would have been a top 4 round pick but now a guy you might get later on and be able to build up. Small built but good stuff and some upside. Might profile more longer term as a very good reliever, but has the repetoire of pitches to be a successful starter with above avg FB / Ch / Slider.
