2015 MLB Draft Thread - Discussion - DAY ONE
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72142 You actually had posted this: Oh and one guy the Sox have been linked to, Prep Outfielder Mike Trout (no strong ties, more tied to them based upon needs by other columnists), is demanding $2.5M, which is .1M less than Beckham got. Haha..shows what I remember. I had remember writing about Trout and really being a fan of his. Selective memory haha. Evidently I also suggested we should draft Garrett Richards. Too bad they didn't do that either, haha.

2015 MLB Draft Thread - Discussion - DAY ONE
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) From the linked article: Word before the draft that Trout was seeking a $2.5-million signing bonus might have scared off some teams. But the Angels, who got quite a catch when they drafted outfielder Tim Salmon in 1989, picked Trout and signed him for $1.215 million, his slot value. http://articles.latimes.com/2011/feb/19/sp...-trout-20110220 That might be more the LA Times making more of it. he signed for slot and was never viewed as a top 10 pick and largely went roughly where everyone had him pegged (in the 20's). Have a hard time saying teams passed on him cause of demands and he handed given some indication that he didn't have one of those Stanford commits where guys legitimately fall because they plan on going to college.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) He also had large signing bonus demands. I still would love to know just how close the Sox were to taking him. Trout didn't have any ridiculous demands associated with him, at least not that I was aware of.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) Sale and Rodon haven't been the problem. You could say something about Beckham, but it's not like all the guys drafted right after him became stars. Not to mention Beckham wasn't a reach at all. Sox have drafted pretty well past few years (although still extremely early to really say that but we've clearly drafted well in the 1st couple of rounds).

Stephenson would be cool. Risky, but cool. I don't love any of the top pitching prospects. They all have their flaws and their upside (then again, so does anyone, especially at this stage in their careers).

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 08:51 AM) I'd bet dollar to donuts that Samardjiza doesn 't have an era of 5 at the end of the year. Ok...If his ERA ends up over 5, I get $100 (American, US Dollars)...if it ends up below 5, you get 100 donuts (I don't specific size or freshness of said donuts and me cutting 1 donut into 100 pieces, does qualify as 100 donuts).

Samardzija Trade Packages
Lets hope he gets on a run and we can get something nice for him. Or that we go on a run along with him and it all becomes a moot point. With the way this team plays though, becoming less likely. They'll founder to .500 from time to time but just don't play heady enough baseball to overcome their other issues (e.g., crap defense and at this point, non-existent offense).

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 08:37 AM) Don't confuse the Faceless Men with the Sons of the Harpy, way different groups (Faceless Man is what Arya is trying to become), just an fyi. And why wouldn't one sneak attack be a bad choice? See if one can get by while people's attention are on the pit? If that failed, which took an epic spear throw by Jorah, then they bum rush them which is what they did. They easily would've had Dany if it wasn't for Drogon. I presumed he was referring to the end when they were all in the pit surrounded, but the Sons of Harpy kind of just one off attacked, vs. all of them rushing since they had numbers.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) I know he's put up better numbers already in his career...but is love really that different in style from Mirotic? Love is a multi-time all star who is in his mid 20's. I think it is insanely short sighted to not accept him because of Mirotic. Mirotic was a nice player but Kevin Love is a top 20 player in this league and a year ago people would have argued he was possibly top 5 and for sure top 10. I'd also say that Love is an insanely better rebounder than Niko. I would agree that Gasol is probably the best fit as he plays that physical big position very well but Love's stock is down further then it probably should be.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 06:40 AM) The latest mock draft on SheridanHoops says that the Bulls are exploring the option of trading Taj and/or Noah. Says the Bulls and Celtics have been the 2 most active teams in trade talks (not with each other). http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2015/05/30/mo...-and-then-what/ That is the scenario which gives the Bulls the cap space to go for Love / Aldridge / Gasol.

FIFA officials arrested on corruption charges; face extradition to U
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 29, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) People do want it. Problem is a lot of the power in terms of votes comes from those nations benefiting from said corruption. It is why it will take the power of those nations that drive the finances behind soccer to put serious pressure on FIFA and its way of life.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) It will be interesting to see how efficient an offense based on launching 3s is with DRose "feeling it". Really, how many guys on the Bulls roster other than perhaps McBuckets, and Dunleavy if he is even back, do you really think can hit 3s with much consistency? Nik should. He struggled at times this year due to being winded, etc, but he should be a good 3 point shooter. Brooks is as well (not sure if he will be back).

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) The player push back is a new thing that has come out in recent days. Considering Thibs was a known goner, I'm going to assume that is just players trying to placate the people who will still be here knowing that Thibs was out anyway. Cowley had an article the other day and he got from a player the exit interview was filled with stuff slamming Thibs. I will agree GarPax/ Thibs probably wasn't going to work anymore, but unless Pau can find another fountain of youth, and all these guys who get hurt every season stop getting hurt, the Mayor is going to bow out of the playoffs in the first or second round. I also think the Mayor to the Bulls is a done deal. I think they are leaking it is not to try to make it appear like this just came up, and everything everyone has heard the last 4 or 5 months is just a coincidence that it came true. Supposedly Pau had planted a different seed during the season and I think players started to march to a slightly different tune. Not saying Pau didn't like Tom, just that he has been their and won and has a different mindset and is a real leader and I think his opinion was more of a, you need to make it to the playoffs in a position where you are healthy enough to play your best basketball and that wasn't going to happen under Tom's watch. Too much blood had been released by the time the regular season ended. If Pau doesn't come, my presumption is Tom is still the head coach of the Bulls because it was going to take a real veteran (from the outside) who would be able to change some of the internal culture that will also come with getting older. My presumption is if there was one player who wouldn't comment negatively on Tom, it would be Butler and possibly Rose. However, I could have seen similar situations with Noah too, but that might not be the case. Dunleavy is a pro but it isn't like he'd grown up and been developed by Tom so while I can't see him bashing Tom, I also don't see him doing extensive lobbying for a coach either.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 29, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) I will laugh out the loudest if Hoiberg declines the job. That would be bad. I don't want Gentry. I like him as an assistant but don't like getting rid of Tom for Gentry. I can live with Hoiberg as I think he has the "it" charisma. No idea if he can coach or not. Difference between college and pro's is huge, but as long as he doesn't let his ego get in the way and he brings in some good assistants, I am on board with it. To be frank, I don't like very many alternatives outside of Hoiberg.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2015 -> 10:05 AM) If Tate is available I would all aboard that train. I think I'd take Fulmer over him, but that'd be it. Tate would be my #1. He has good size, velocity, two plus pitches and athleticism without some of the concerns over Jay / Fullmer. Basically Tate has proven he can become a starter (after pitching out of pen past two seasons) and still maintained his velocity, etc, until past few weeks where he has tired out (which is to be expected and something I hope Sox are all over and are prepared to give him rest). Fullmer has more concerns over his mechanics, etc and Jay is nice but again, we don't know how his velocity will maintain as a starter, etc. Tate would be such a good value get at the 8 spot. Jay might have higher upside then Tate though (more polish around his secondary stuff).

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) Coaches should coach. GMs should GM. That's how I see it. The Bulls PR department is doing a good job making Thibs the bad guy here, but if he was so horrible and played guys too much, why did he last 5 seasons? Why did he get a very lucrative contract extension which still has 2 years to go? You yourself are using a quote from a writer that stated he never got any info from Thibs as proof Thibs gave him info. Isn't it at least slightly possible the Van Gundy comments weren't coming from Thibs? He was speaking from common knowledge. We all knew the stories. The fact is GarPax hasn't yet shown they are any better at their jobs than the guys they fired. I hope someone with the Bulls realizes that. I think the problem is the Bulls had one of the best front offices in the league at collecting talent and one of the best coaching staffs in the league as well. Blowing both of those up would be the bigger mistake as it would leave you starting 100% from scratch. Clearly this got bad enough that JR, who was one of Tom's staunches advocates, even got off the bandwagon and decided it was time. It seems like the reality was JR would have allowed the issues to continue to go together if things were kept internally better and probably more importantly if the players didn't start to grow weary of Tom.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) Don't the GM and president meddle by nature...? They build the roster. We've seen the opposite. When coaches get to meddle in GM affairs like Ozzie getting Kotsay over Thome. Supposedly Thibs was the biggest supporter of drafting McDermott as well. I think the key from Reinsdor's message was in his eye, the coach and GM each have say in their world but they have to be able to work together as well. Any good organization has strong cross functional relationships built and the Bulls were lacking that. I presume Hoiberg has enough clout that he isn't taking a job to be a "yes" man, rather he is taking a job with a great roster with the chance to take this team to the next level and has a comfort that he can work well with the front office and communicate, etc.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 08:53 AM) Skiles does have a track record of making bad teams decent, but eventually you will fire him with at least a couple of million on his contract. He is a poor man version of Thibs and a very good guy to help change the culture of the organization. He will also be reunited with Ben Gordon, haha.

2014-2015 NBA thread
I want to thank Thibs for making basketball in Chicago fun for the last 5 years and wish him the best in the future. Whoever gets him is going to get a really good coach and I hope he's learned a bit from his experience here. At the same time, I hope Hoiberg is the guy that can take the Bulls to the next level and that Doug Collins will be seated next to him. Reading Woj's article and who Forman wanted to hire instead of Thibs has me worried. I'd have been fine if they went with Pax's guy (Doug Collins) but if they hired Lawrence Frank or Mike Brown, oh my.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) Dan Bernstein @dan_bernstein · 1h 1 hour ago #Bulls sources: at least three starters ripped Thibs in exit interview, said they'd avoid team facility this summer if he were still there. Very interesting. Wonder how much truth their is to this. I presume Gasol would have been one of them.
