  1. Sounds like Cowboys are trying to buy the tape so that it doesn't get reported nationally. What is annoying about this is that it is something that is so old that evidently everyone was aware of it from the past (I presume if Cowboys were aware of it, NFL was as well).
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Let's also ignore the 4-5 scrap heap PGs Thibs has spun off, that have gone on to get paid by other teams. You could also point out Asik, who got more and more minutes as his rookie season went on.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) This is his third knee injury. I have no doubt he will come back and play. But the Derrick Rose of MVPness is dead. Heck the All-Star Derrick Rose should have dirt thrown on his grave as well. Now he is just overpaid Derrick Rose. Let's just hope Reggie didn't spend all of Derrick's money on SAT study guides. Westbrook had the same series of injuries (in fact, Westbrook had 4 injuries in theory...ACL and 3 different meniscus surgeries).
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) Steve seems to be making a bunch of assumptions on the media's perception of Rose. The news out this morning is very positive. It seems inevitable that he will get the meniscus removed as from what I've read, it's standard operating procedure after a retear. I am sure April will either suck or suck really bad. Is the surgery today? 7+ weeks till the end of the season.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) The crap thing with this injury is just, you have 20 million tied to a player that there is now no doubt you cannot rely on to play. The other crap thing is kirk hinrich. He may come back, but either way, the great play we are getting from low market value short pgs is great, until they are your only PG. Luckily, this league has a lot of great PGs now. Which is why I say of all positions to have to add to in the off-season, PG is a good one to need cause their is a dearth of quality PG's.
  6. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) Agree, this injury isn't significant enough to end Derrick's career. However, I don't think we're going to see Derrick play at the levels we're hoping could/would. I think this will be the final nail in Thibs tenure as HC. I don't think Derrick will be on the roster after his contract expires. I think the Bulls will be mired in mediocrity for the foreseeable future. I think lots of things. I agree with most everything you said, however, I've long pointed to 2016 as the year Rose regains his all star status (and that is still in reach if he can come back and play this season, imo). I think the worst thing for him would be not getting back this season and having a long off-season. If he comes back and plays this season, he can have a normal off-season, played in at least a decent chunk of this season, playoffs, etc, and be in a position to move forward in 16. The piece I don't understand is how is Rose's injury a nail in Thibbs tenure? What did Tom do to drive or lead to this injury. The Bulls and Rose couldn't have been more conservative with Rose (since his initial injury) and this is what has happened. How can a finger for any of these more recent injuries be put in Thibbs direction? Rose isn't playing heavy minutes. In fact, he's largely been babied since his first injury. I'd argue he might have been better off had they pushed things more (look at Westbrook). All this said, lets not forget that the reinjury of the meniscus is relatively common and not overly serious (look at Westbrook). If you want hope, you at least have Westbrook to look at. He's better than ever.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) I just find this hard to believe because in December when Rose was playing his best, so was Jimmy. I find it more likely that MJD affected this, as a lot of the success jimmy had early was getting the 2 guard match-up and overpowering them. Then he was exclusively a 3 in january save for some niko moments. By the way...I do think Rose comes back this year and this injury doesn't end his career. I do think this injury means the Bulls officially pass the torch to Butler to be their star, which is good. It should take a lot of pressure off Rose and in the off-season we can add a PG and give Rose more minutes at the 2 spot.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) No, it hasn't, his postgame turn-around fadeaway jumpers have predictably disappeared. I do think a lot of this has to do with rose and others getting more shots and bad spacing with MJD being gone. Butler is also playing with a messed up finger. Watch Butler elevate his game. This off-season, Bulls need to find a way to get a true point guard (which probably shouldn't be that difficult).
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) I just want Russell Westbrook. That's reasonable, right? Westbrook has a different attitude / swag to him.
  10. Really only thing that kills me in this is, obviously it sucks for Rose, but with the deadline past, we are going to have a tough time finding a PG (cause Brooks as a starter will be a disaster and we all know Hinrich can't handle a full load anymore and he himself has fallen off a cliff). I think we'll see this team (maybe a short blip) but rise to the occassion. For those that say the Bulls are screwed, we'll see what Rose can do but we have a guy who is developing into a superstar in Jimmy Butler and it is now his team (along with Noah's). If Rose can get healed and get back, great, all the better, but the torch has been passed to Butler.
  11. Jose...was your teacher seriously on Soxtalk at the same time as you? If so, that is awesome!
  12. Cowherd has hinted at major major issues with Dez and why no one should offer him big money without protection. He won't specifically say anything but he's been saying it for the past year that their is massive amounts of smoke around him and if you just look at police visits to his house it is absurd in and of itself.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 08:30 AM) I think the only way I could get behind a shorter season is if it also coincided with more playoff games. I don't want less baseball being played. I think that is what I would propose, shortening the season but expanding the post-season. The problem with a long season is, that you lose a lot of relevance in numerous markets late in the year. Having more teams still in the thick of things makes the races much more interesting (and to a large extent, the additional wild card team has helped that...although I think the 1 game playoff probably should be expanded, although I understand the concept of making it a winner take all, I just don't love that format in baseball).
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) A lot of his misses were at the rim with contact. Despite the turnovers, he also had 8 assists, which is nice. I really start to wonder when Rose is going to start getting the foul call. I also look forward to when Rose regains his touch. He used to literally not miss at the rim and that skill is going to come back, imo.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 11:22 AM) From what I have heard, Pax is lukewarm about Thibs, and that your statement is pretty accurate. Gar just seems like a jerk. Heck of an eye for talent though. That said, Thibbs should get a heck of a lot of credit for his ability to develop young players (even though everyone has this shtick like he doesn't develop them).
  16. Looking like I will be there for the first couple games of spring.
  17. By the way...back to the whole Bulls front office / coaching feud. Bulls looking at Kendrick, likely at the recommendation of Thibbs who coached him in Boston. And there was so much talk about Dougie and front office not being happy with how Thibbs is treating him, but Thibbs was really high on totally on board with drafting him, etc. I keep hoping this Feud is more media driven and not as true. Probably cause I am a Thibbs fan boy. Easily my favorite coach in franchise history (yes...including Phil, who I think is extremely overrated).
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) @scottmerkin: Crain started throwing in January. He's off the mound now: "Really every time I go out there I feel like I’m getting stronger." I really liked that Crain signing.
  19. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 18, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) Since Vlad is the #1 overall prospect in this year's July 2 period, so he'll comment a high bonus probably close to $3,000,000, maybe even $3,500,000. As a player he as has huge power potential and projects to be a huge run producer who can anchor the middle of our order. He might be on the 'built side of things' as he is 6'2 and 220lbs, but I think that he could slim down as he isn't done growing. He probably plays RF or 1B in the pros and I would rate his power tool as a legit 80. Vlad Jr would be a great get.
  20. I vomit at what the front office does in terms of their treatment of Thibbs, but I'm not going to give them a hard time for going after Perkins. I have a heck of a lot of faith in the Bulls front office when it comes to managing this roster.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) On the flip side of this, are teams really going to think a $16 million cap hit (or something like that) is going to justify giving up anything for him? In reality, how much better are you with Jay Cutler at $16 mill versus Josh McCown at $4-6 mill plus the additional $10-12 mill you can add to the roster elsewhere while retaining whatever late draft pick you would have to send to the Bears? I still don't think anybody would trade for him. I think, in that situation, you're gambling whether you work with him on the roster at $16 mill or you cut him and hope he signs elsewhere and doesn't screw the Bears over. He's made a ton of money in his career already. What's stopping him from signing with a team for 1 year and $8 mill and trying to recoup his value? It's not a move you see in football a lot, but Jay Cutler is in a situation where something like that actually makes sense. All things considered, I think Jay is the QB in July. To answer your question...you can make the playoffs with Jay Cutler. You won't with Josh McCown. I can think of literally zero scenario where you make the playoffs with McCown over a full season. So if you are a team with good parts and a strong defense, the additional cost of Cutler is more than worth it, imo.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) Do you guys tip on take out orders? I typically tip around 18%...that will go pretty low if service sucks and if it is outstanding it can go higher. It will also go higher if my wife and I split something so our bill is inherently cheaper for a table of our size (so they get fairly compensated for their time and service). When it comes to take-out I never do, although this is largely driven by the fact that most of the places I order take-out from (asian or pizza) aren't necessarily sit down places so if I ate their I wouldn't tip either (they'd drop my food off but not full service).
  23. That means if Bears wanted to completely unload Cutler (basically cut him), it shouldn't be an issue as it would be astonishing if he didn't get a contract worth $15M (that would literally be impossible). I think it is much more likely than any of us previously thought that Cutler is moved sooner vs. later. I still think the ideal scenario has us getting a pick for him. Teams will be desperate and to be frank, we are selling Jay at his lowest value, but understand if the org wants to make a change. I just wish it was in a year where there were more attractive QB options available.
