  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) Padres have had some bad injuries this year (Myers, Alonso, Morrow) as well as some of the same black holes that the Sox have (2B/SS) I'm going to guess this move had more to do with new regime eventually wanting to bring in its own guy. Black is a big analytics guy and would be a great hire. That said, I presume he'll sit out the rest of the year and then go somewhere else. All this said, it isn't like he had a stellar track record, record wise, so that might mean he ends up working as a bench coach / pitching coach somewhere.
  2. QUOTE (onedude @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) He can't just come out and say he'll be back next season...that'll ruin the setup in the show. There are rumors/pics of him being in Belfast for preproduction. I believe season six starts filming within a few weeks...I know the outdoor environment shots for the wall and the North film in late September to November, but I'm sure inside shots and shots on built sets happen during the summer. I am hoping that is the case but he was definitely pretty clear in his interview that he was told he isn't coming back and he mentioned he cried, etc, when he left. That said, he never got a gift for leaving so maybe that is his way of hinting it isn't really over. I hope he's just pulling everyone's legs, would make it that much cooler when he returns!
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Hire Bud Black! Interesting that the Pads and Sox, two of the off-season darlings, and both underperforming. Black is gone and as far as I'm concerned, he's a much better manager then Ventura (but I am a big Bud Black fan). All that said, his team was .500 just a day ago.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) Any idea who the Sox take at #3? I'd reckon Kyle Schwarber or however you spell his name? or did he go 2?
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) That was the following year. In 08-09 Garnett got hurt and the Magic eliminated the Celtics (after the Bulls and Celtics went 7 games). Orlando also knocked out Cleveland. The Lakers really didn't face a championship caliber team their entire postseason run that year. Your right. That celtics Bulls series was so much fun (even though we were on the losing end). Prime BG!
  6. I was surprised they packed so much into the finale. I was expecting a boring finale. I am going to be crushed if Snow isn't resurrected.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) Speaking of 86-88, wasn't Dylan Axelrod also on CS-Fullerton? He definitely pitched for a Univ-Cal system school. Not Fullerton. Esch can pitch, that is for sure. Was drafted high himself (some rumblings that he was going to sneak into the back of the 1st but ended up going in the supplemental / comp rounds). His mate, Justin Garza, was just as good as he was with a more explosive fastball but underwent surgery about a month ago. I kept saying he'd have been a great pick but the Tribe grabbed him in the tail end of day 1.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) Go CS Fullerton! Woot Woot! Freaking rain though. Eschelman was cruising. That said, rain also means Fulmer doesn't throw a ton of innings in at least this game. Plus, if your a fan of the Sox, you want Vandy eliminated so Carson can sign sooner!!! PS: GO TITANS!!!
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 14, 2015 -> 08:31 PM) I'm reminded of the '08 finals when the Lakers didn't have Bynum/Ariza. That '08 Celtics team was great and the best defensive team I've ever seen. But they caught a huge break in those two being out. The next season? The Lakers rolled through everybody with both healthy (though KG missed the playoffs). Didn't they go to 7 games in the finals against that same Celtics team? Or am I confusing a year?
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 09:57 AM) Rejected because of The Gage Rule. It's okay...the face isn't taking a day off, he's just going to be hanging out with the family. Anyone that wants to see the mug can come on by.
  11. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) Friday July 3 is a company holiday for me but I'm thinking of taking the 2nd off too. Approved. I'm going to be taking the 6th off (3rd is a company holiday). Rowand and Southsider can work for us on Friday & Monday, respectively, for being jerks who don't want to grant us our time off.
  12. Big game for US tonight against Sweden.
  13. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 04:03 AM) Chicago Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg is pursuing San Antonio Spurs assistant Jim Boylen to be his top assistant coach, league sources told Yahoo Sports. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--bull...-013405910.html I like this move. #2 assistant in San Antonio, worked previously with Vogel (who is really good too). I like this. Bulls supposedly willing to let him be the associate head coach.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 12, 2015 -> 12:15 AM) I don't hate RV at all. In fact, if I met RV I would shake his hand vigorously and say "you were one of my heroes and my pops loved you too; way to work back from that horrific injury you had". That said, dude is in the .0001% of dads that can take 3 days off work for graduation and nobody gives a f***. Lot of working class dads out there that would love to do the same. You don't know jack s*** about anyone here bro. Presume what you're gonna presume, but don't get it twisted many of us raising a ruckus here are about as far from "meatball" as it gets. Go ahead with your one liners tho, they go over great with the meatball crowd. You ever seen your pops cry because he has to work and he can't be with you? I certainly have. RV should wake up every day thanking his creator he gets to take 3 days off for his daughter's graduation. I've seen the tears in my working class father's eye when he had to go away from his family. You want to tell me, and others, about what it means to be working class and sacrifice everything and anything for your kids? Get real man. Every dad I know could take the weekend off to go attend their daughter's graduation. And if they worked weekends, then I still don't know a dad who couldn't take the time off to attend.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) I think it has more to do with the experience. He is probably going to play for a little while so he sees what it's like and what the other ballplayers are like. Then he will transition out of the playing side and into a front office or scouting. I don't think he was actually on the baseball team. That is at least my understanding.
  16. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Winning a dundy? And no, it's not a huge deal, I just don't get where the advantage is even for the kid. When I was a kid, I certainly wouldn't want it. I wouldn't want people going, oh well, he only got drafted because of his dad. I'd want people to say, man, he earned it (and if I didn't, oh well).
  17. QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) Here's one man's humble opinion: Only a lunatic detached from reality would have a problem with a father taking 3 days off of work to fly thousands of miles from one coast of the USA to the other for a big once-in-a-lifetime family event like a daughter's graduation. Fantastic post.
  18. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 05:47 PM) To me, this just demonstrates Robin's lack of passion for the job. I have no problem with a parent attending his daughters graduation. However, any manager who really had a strong commitment to the position (and to the team) would minimize the time away. I doubt there is another manger in the league that would miss 3 games for this occasion. Almost all would miss one. Some would miss two. Missing an entire series just shows that our manager would rather have a vacation instead of working. That's a problem. As a parent, I couldn't imagine not being their for my child like a professional manager is during the course of the season. This is a huge moment for his daughter and I'd be more pissed if he blew her off in favor of the White Sox. Priorities and Robin thankfully has them in the right place.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) I like that Hickman pick. So far only one "son of and insider" pick. And no daughters. Not bad. Personally I hope they take more daughters. We are 1 for 1 taking daughters and potential HOFer's in the same draft. So if we can get a Buehrle everytime we take a daugther affiliated with the franchise, I am okay with that
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) If you get Martinez, you really need to sign 3 or four of the guys to make it worth while. Add a guy like Randy Arozarena who BA says has a similar profile to Ian Happ. Add in a guy like Andy Ibanez and another SP like Vladimir Gutierrez and it is basically like adding four first round draft picks to the class. It will cost some of the higher end 16 years olds the next couple seasons, but you still get your entire pool to use, you just have to break it down into smaller chunks. I think Tim Anderson is a pretty high end offensive talent. The only one, but high-end nonetheless. Guy can hit.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) 13. Tyler Sullivan, CF, Pacific, Sr. Not drafted last year, not a ba top 500 guy. .857 ops last year His brother is pretty good. Shortstop and preseason all american in their conference.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) Just read on twitter, Anderson hurt himself rounding 2nd base and had to crawl back to the bag. Left game, but walked off on his own. https://twitter.com/JustinRocke/status/608673338483945472 Please be okay. He is our one position prospect that I have full faith in his ability to be a dynamic hitter.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) I'm a numbers guy but I don't believe for a second this Warriors team is the best team since the 95-96 Bulls. LeBron to me is the 2nd best player I've seen and winning or losing this series doesn't change that. But I've also been consistent in that position and I've defended him more than most on this board. I don't think there is really much argument that MJ and LeBron aren't top 2 of all time though. Great post and I agree with everything you just said. I do think that if the Cavs win, it would be what I call the greatest "put my team on the back" moment that I have ever seen.
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) Too bad the 5% rule publishes those with already small draft pools even further. I imagine the Astros for example can play with like 500k more than us when that rule comes into effect. Yep. At least we had a relatively high 1st round pick, which helps, but that lack of 2nd / 3rd round picks really gives us far less wiggle room then we otherwise would have had. I still get annoyed we haven't been aggressive in getting those competitive balance picks.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) Unfortunately it seems like Fulmer is one of the only guys in the top 10 rumored to get slot. Him pitching in the CWS only complicates things. As far as picks 4-10 I would guess the following. 4.) Erwin - under 5.) Stephens - even 6.) Zangari - even/over 7.) Hickman - even/over 8.) Shroeder - even 9.) Hinchley - 10k 10.) Glines - 10k I am not going to be holding my breath over a higher end HS talent tomorrow but it would be nice. I love that Glines pick. He has some Adam Eaton to him. Remember, even if Fulmer goes at slot, with our draft pool we get the 5% to play with plus whatever we saved from the two 10K's + Erwin. That is enough to be able to give a few guys a couple hundred K or one guy half a mill. Not saying it will work but I'm sure there are some top few round guys that will end up taking that. It all comes down to the relationships our scouts have with the various guys to see who they think are worth the gamble.
