  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) If Chad Ford is right that Mirotic would be one of the 5 first picks in this draft, would you really trade him just to clear salary space? No; I think I had a question on that post but I find it hard to believe you'd have to give up someone like Nik to trade MJD (who is on a very fair contract) or Snell. Are you telling me there is no team in the league that would want any of those guys in a salary dump? I call BS.
  2. Would it be unwise to see if you could add extra assets from these teams looking to potential unload picks on hail mary attempts. Those assets could then be used to leverage Love +.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:22 AM) So if bulls sign melo there is like no chance mirotic can be signed. Really the only way I see him hers is if bulls strike out on all options. Edit: guys money is a real thing. Aflallo makes 6 mill, that means Gibson is gone and butler if you have Mel. Not true. If you sign Melo in a S&T, then you have ability to use your MLE and can bring in Mirotic with that. Afflalo at 6M can be done by using the draft picks plus some non-guaranteed guys. There are ways to be flexible despite being over the cap.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) who wants to deal with the awfulness that is job hunting essentially all the time? I'm not convinced by the argument he's advancing, anyway. He says that people get a 10-20% raise typically when they switch companies. Ok, but does that mean it's realistic for someone to switch companies every 2 years or so and that they'd still be commanding that 10-20% bump every time? No; they most likely wouldn't. This is true early in your career but becomes less true when you advance. It also seems that some of these stats might be flawed. I think when you are more tenured, the window is expanded in terms of expectations of how long you stay. Note, there is also variability depending on the industry / career you are in.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) PG- Rose SG- Affalo SF - Melo PF- Mirotic C- Noah Bench one of Butler or Gibson and garage pieces. Boom. Dream offseason. Pretty sure Mirotic isn't starting in that scenario.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:16 AM) I agree. At worst you have two 25 year old stars to build around. That is why I support Love (even if you did give up Noah; however, if I traded Noah the only way I would do it in that scenario is if that money was going to Melo / LBJ). Otherwise, I'm also fine with just giving up a few pieces and getting Love to go with Noah / Rose and at least now you have gotten your core team younger and extended your window (while still improving your team). However, just Love (while giving up Taj / others) probably doesn't make the Bulls that much better short-term then they were a year ago, the key truly lies on Rose. I think a team with Love / Afflalo can actually still potentially make the finals (Note: I didn't say win) with Rose not returning to superstar form and if he is above average, you have a definite shot at winning. If you are able to keep Nik and he develops, then you really are in a great position.
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:11 AM) Is that really an alternative? That sounds like dream world to me. I'd absolutely love for that to happen. I think it is a great scenario (depending on cost) but seems like everyone has been focused on Melo / Afflalo. By the way, if we ended up with Afflalo, Mrotic and another vet, that wouldn't be the end of the world either in all reality. That is still a pretty big upgrade without losing other guys from the team (e.g., MJD / Butler / Taj). That team would be a force to reckon with in the east without Rose (not saying they'd be a title team) and with Rose they'd have a pretty good chance at a title. Again, I realize it isn't what we all want, but in a vacuum that is a largely improved team. The key comes down to what can you get Love for. You have to really hope that Bulls front office is talking to players who are then talking to Love and his reps and ultimately Love tells Minny only team he resigns with is Chicago. If he does that, you basically get yourself in a game of chicken and take out alternative scenarios and have all of the leverage. Seems like it would be pretty tough to get Love without giving up your draft picks which then makes you wonder how you could end up pulling Afflalo (unless you dangle Mritoic).
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:10 AM) I would Love... to see this happen. Especially if you could bring over Mirotic to replace Taj. Quietly I keep thinking the Bulls are much more in on Love then anyone expects. If you get Love then you still have ability to do some finagling if another superstar wants to join (as long as if you can get Love without giving up all of your tradeable assets). People will say, what about cap space, but in this era, if you have 2 guys that want to come, you can find ways to move contracts, imo / ultimately get the other team to agree to some form of sign and trade.
  9. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) Yeah, it was an error of execution. He took a bad touch. Not that bad of a mistake to be honest. Bradley had a bad moment there but he played very well that game. It was nothing like the first game. Very unfortunate timing of what happened and while people can talk about mis execution, what-ifs, you tip your cap to Portugal on a perfectly placed ball and run.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:03 AM) Just realizing how bad the east will be if lebron leaves. If rose stays healthy that's like auto finals appearance. Lebron would be foolish to leave the east unless he is joining an elite squad.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 07:18 AM) Bulls need to focus on Melo and Love. James is a pipe dream and a distraction. I think a good alternative and one you have better control of would be adding Love and Afflalo.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 06:34 AM) I am shocked by that. Man things get a bit more fun though don't they? It really doesn't mean anything. For the Heat to stay in tact, they all pretty much have to opt out anyway and reduce salaries to an extent. The key is going to be if Wade opts out. If he stays in, it will really limit any flexibility the Heat have.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) Ouch. I knew someone who had an offer from Google out of school, could make $100k in Chicago or $140k in Cali, now I know why. San Fran is a whole nother animal.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 12:17 PM) Bill Simmons is saying Afflalo and Melo to Bulls is "very possible" I don't think the Bulls' FO is this creative. Wait, we are going to trade Mritocoic with Snell / MJD? Why would we do that? Or are they implying those guys would replace MJD?
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) Taj is old, he's not that good of a trading chip, and we are asking team to take on ful salary. In those situations you get not much, you especially don't get a high draft pick in a deep draft that teams tanked for. Taj is a better trade chip then you give him credit for and if he wasn't valuable, I wouldn't move him cause he has a lot of value here if you move Boozer and get Melo.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) Would the Knicks also pick up a trade exemption in that kind of deal? I never figured out how those work. They would pick up a trade exception if they dealt Boozer to a team which was well below the cap, however, in most scenario's they are probably taking even money back in return, and thus would not be getting a trade exception. Note: If it was a pure Boozer + Pick for Melo, I don't believe they would get a trade exception as we would be over the cap and thus, any cap savings wouldn't go back to the Knicks (since the deal would be free). If we were under the cap still after and signed Melo for 23M and they took on 16M, then I believe they would have gotten an exception. However, in the current scenario, i think we would struggle being able to do that, I think technically we would just be able to sign Melo for what we had free + the trade allowance (cushion between salaries traded / received).
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Didn't think of that, but another thing to consider is the Knicks are tax offenders, and paid a $35milion penalty this year. Even if Melo walks they are over the cap and Boozer's money or if he is dealt for a similar salarycould trigger a repeat offender tax, which would make the actual cost of acquring him close to $40 million if not more. That is an excellent point. That is a very steap price if in fact having Boozer on the books puts them in that sort of position. My guess is any trade probably comes with a problem child of sorts, such as JR Smith or Felton. Could be mistaken. A S&T for Melo without giving up Taj / Butler / Nik would be a hell of a win for the Bulls.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) Forgive me for my ignorance, but why would that be worth paying Boozer vs. just having another guy they can renounce after the season? At the deadline, having an expiring option, might allow the Knicks to acquire someone via trade (without having to go to the FA market). For example, if Durant were to come on the block (not saying realistic) this off-season, then you could acquire him and then give a lot of young assets back + Boozer to make things work and then the Thunder get financial flexibility + young assets going forward (otherwise they'd get stuck with another contract to bloat things). So in a final year of a deal, at the trade deadline, Boozer's contract actually becomes a good chip for a team looking to deal a player with a LT contract for future cap savings.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) It's an expiring contract. I had thought so but wasn't sure. The expiring pick part makes a little more sense cause of the funkiness of the CBA there is some value in having Boozer on the books to create potential flexibility / options for them to land another piece.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) IIRC that sign and trade was almost entirely done for salary reasons, but the details escape me. In theory, the same would be done here, if in fact Melo has told the Knicks he is 100% not interested and going to leave. I don't know that to be the case though.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) Ok, now this would be awesome http://theknicksblog.com/knicks/source-chi...ption-for-melo/ That is way too good to be true. Would the Knicks really see benefit in taking on Boozer just to get a 1st round draft pick? I would think we'd have to give up one young asset (either Taj / Butler / Nik) + draft pick. Is Boozer somehow a FA at the end of next year? Otherwise I don't get why Knicks would take on that contract.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) CONCACAF kicking some ass. Lets hope it continues on Sunday!!! I have long been laughing at everyone writing off CR.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) Question about the S&Ts...can they happen before free agency starts? If you do a S&T and don't include Nikolai (sp?), the Bulls would likely be over the cap and still have access to the MLE which means we could use that to sign Nikolai. And off-season with Nik and Melo without losing Taj would be pretty good. Big key after that is to find another outside shooter or two.
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) He also says Boozer is in the deal as of right now. It's early though...the draft is next week and free agency doesn't start until July 1st. Can a sign and trade happen sooner then July 1? If they can get Melo in a sign and trade with Boozer as one of the primary players, huge coup for Chicago. Presume deal would also include Nikolai and draft picks (since everything seems to indicate plan a is getting Melo without losing Gibson). Could a package be built around Butler, Boozer, and picks? I guess it all depends on what the Knicks are willing to do. I don't see why they would do that.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) I don't think the Bulls have a player to match Thompson. Noah is older, more expensive, and isn't nearly as dynamic of a scorer. I think a package of Noah might actually be perceived better then the proposed Golden State package, just depends on how much you value financial flexibility, etc. Is Thompson going to even stick around?
