  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 9, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) Watkins was clearly the best WR in the draft, I do not know how that equals "worse day". I guess we will agree to disagree. Best wideout but he doesn't come close to what a Julio Jones / Aj Green / Megatron looked like, imo.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 9, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) An opinion of Kolek: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/anthon...p;vkey=news_mlb You could interpret that many ways. One being, he's a legit top pick and therefor whatever team takes him is bad. The other is, only a bad team thinks he's a good pick.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 8, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) I left Soxtalk for about 4 years and switched over to SSS because I thought this community had become stagnant. When I came back this spring I found a good number of new, thoughtful posters but was a bit chagrined to see some of the same obstinate knuckleheads still around. It's now SSS that has become stagnant imo; not that there isn't room for both (and that "other" Sox forum) on the Internet, but I'm not a huge fan of the guy that runs SSS and Soxtalk, imo, has been invigorated by some fresh blood. Welcome back. Were you always under this user name? We have some more changes in store too.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:06 PM) Man I just can't get over how insane the Rams line is. Rams Dline is insanely good. Rams are a good team...well if they can figure out how to get Bradford to not suck. They need a wideout.
  5. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 9, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) Trading for Williams was the first mistake. As Stevie Johnson is better and cheaper. They are not one player away from being a great team. Which is why the Watkins trade was so bad. Honestly, the Bills couldn't have had a worse day or so in my personal opinion. They better hope EJ is the real deal.
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 9, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) Buffalo did a good job on the deal. Pretty bad move. You gave up a future first for a freaking wideout and now this. Don't like it at all if I were a Bills fan. Watkins is not Megatron here.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 9, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) @AdamSchefter 5m Filed to ESPN: 49ers trading a conditoonal 2015 4th-round pick to Buffalo for WR Stevie Johnson, per sources. Pick can become a 3rd. The Bills have had the worst draft in the league, imo.
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 9, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Who do they have a top 15 grade on. Probably one of the DT's.
  9. QUOTE (bshah723 @ May 9, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) Ty Youngfelt ‏@TyYoungfelt 2m Bears entertaining idea of dealing next year's 1st to acquire additional 2 this year - have 5 players w/1st rd grade still avail, 1 top 15 I don't like that idea.
  10. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 8, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) Sort of... I love Long. He's the man. But I like to point out that we still took a Guard in the 1st round. That's generally a poor idea. We could have taken Larry Warford in the 2nd and he would have had a similar impact. And let's be honest, Emery lucked out. We took a guy who started 4 games in college and wasn't considered NFL-ready. Nobody saw the type of year he had coming. Or if you want to go way back: if Emery had taken David DeCastro like he should have in 2012 instead of McClellin, then OG wouldn't have been a need at all last year, and we could have filled a different need with that 1st pick. I'll say it: I'm not sold on Emery. His free agent moves have been good. His drafting makes me scratch my head more often than not. Jeffery was a fantastic pick but anybody with football knowledge could have made that pick. I was screaming for us to trade up and get him when he started falling. Otherwise, everybody has been a reach. This I agree with. Emery has been good in free agency but he has had some very bad draft picks. That first draft was absolutely awful. Thank goodness he got Jeffrey but that was a no brainer. However, last years draft had some nice picks, although as everyone knows I am not sold on Bostic / Greene, but you got to like Mills / Long.
  11. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 8, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) f*** you, Emery. 3rd straight year you've done this. What the f*** are you doing? And with that, all of the Safeties are gone. We're stuck with what we have. Conte and Mundy starting at Safety. Yikes. What a joke. Hope he's f***ing happy. I like Fuller. But not at 14. And not when the top two Safeties in the draft are still on the board. Further, this is a very deep CB class. Could have gotten a "contributor" in the 2nd-3rd round. In the 1st, you have to take an immediate starter. Not a guy you "expect to contribute." That Emery quote just pisses me off. It's like when he talked about McClellin being a guy who could contribute on special teams. f*** that. You need to take immediate impact guys in the 1st round (unless it's a QB). Then the Packers take our man Clinton-Dix and laugh in our faces. He'll end up picking off Cutler and we're all going to hurt because he could have been ours. I can just see him making some big play to beat the Bears and send the Packers to the playoffs. They beat us on the field and in the off-season every year. I'm getting sick of it. You are wrong about Dix Evan, I'm telling you. Pryor is who we should have took if we wanted a safety. It will be okay.
  12. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 6, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) I don't really care that they added 2 schools out east - you still should put the tournament in a centralized location, so it's easier for more schools to get to. This hurts a ton of fan bases, especially those that decide to make the drive in day 2 or 3 as their team advances. DC makes that almost impossible. Of course they don't put this there if there aren't 2 new schools...but why are they? It's a fair question, because putting a PAC12 tournament on the east coast is similar what the DC tournament will be for the majority of the teams. No one, at the moment, considers Washington DC a B10 market. It's a terrible idea to put the tournament at the very outskirts of your "territory." The "there are things to do in DC" doesn't really do much when you have Chicago to work with. I don't think for Joe Wisconsin fan sitting up there, he's going to be more apt to make the trip there than to Chicago or Indy because there are things to see. It's more of an inconvenience. Its a long drive for a lot of the schools in the big anyway and a lot of alumni are located elsewhere and in this day and age, if you are going to fly, it doesn't matter if you fly to New York or Indy. Mountains out of mole hills here. It isn't like they are going to have this thing in a market that doesn't have the BIG. This is great for the conference and should provide and generate more revenues for the conference which helps every team in the conference get more money and ideally better facilities, etc, which should help every team.
  13. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 8, 2014 -> 08:32 PM) I'll literally s*** my pants if they draft back to back CBs! Gotta be DT.... Oh I didn't mean in round two. I don't think they are taking a CB in round 2. They could take a safety, although I doubt it. I think it is definitely a DT (unless they think a DT they like will be there later and they decide to go LB (cause no safety will be left with a 2nd round grade when the Bears pick).
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ May 8, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) Every time you lost more scouts have claimed he is top corner. Id take Gilbert ten times and twice on Sunday before Fuller. What are you trying to say in the 1st sentence?
  15. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 8, 2014 -> 08:18 PM) lots of good DTs left...Nix, Sutton, Jernigan, Hageman...or go S with Bucannon. I think they draft another CB and move him to safety. Emery has talked about the depth in the secondary and I figure he thinks he can get a good cover guy who can move to safety. Bucanon off the board. Ward and Brooks really the last 2 safety's worthy of a 1st 2 round grade left.
  16. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 8, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) Completely agree with Ha Ha being overrated...I just liked the physical presence that Pryor brought back there. I miss having a big hitter like Plank and Mike Brown used to be. The Bears have complete turds back there right now at the S position and I hope Conte isn't even on the roster this year. I didn't have a problem not going DT since there's a ton of them to choose from in the 2nd. But if you stop and think about it...it seems every DB the bears have drafted in the 1st or 2nd round has turned out to be not that awful bad (sans Walt "Toast" Harris)...Wolford, Carrier, Parrish, Brown, Tillman, Manning... Lets hope you haven't jinxed it, haha. I think Bears will have good opportunity to move down in the 2nd round and still get a DT who would maybe be a borderline first rounder.
  17. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 8, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) Completely agree with Ha Ha being overrated...I just liked the physical presence that Pryor brought back there. But if you stop and think about it...it seems every DB the bears have drafted in the 1st or 2nd round has turned out to not that awful bad (sans Walt "Toast" Harris)...Wolford, Carrier, Parrish, Brown, Tillman, Manning... Our safety play will be better with an improved line. Our safety's were f***ed last year. Dline couldn't hold anything so you had threats of runs and then no pass rush, so all the time in the world. Those guys had zero chance of succeeding. Ha Ha isn't the play maker you want at safety and has character red flags. Fuller is a play maker in college and has some real good athleticism (maybe not pure 40 speed but a lot of quickness which is more important and great 3 cone drill) and really did a great job in terms of forcing turnovers and breaking up plays. Good ball skills.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 8, 2014 -> 07:57 PM) Emery said he will stay at corner and play nickel downs mostly this year. If that is the case it is a bad pick for 2014 playing only 3rd downs in the nickel over a starting safety does not help the Bears much in 2014. In 2015 Fuller taking over for Peanut at corner the pick will help alot more then. Nickel CB's are on the field 70% of the time in this league and Peanut was hurt for a while. This will help Bears significantly and the guy has potential to be a shut down corner which we have a major need for. If you wanted to move him to FS, he probably profiles better then the safety's on the board too but the fact is a lot of scouts thought this guy was the best corner in the league and we have two corners on the wrong side of 30 and we are in a division with some elite passing offenses and wideouts. We can't afford not having top cover corners because if we don't have those, we will get torched. I think we will draft another corner and likely move them to FS. Could go with safety in round 2, although I think my ideal scenario is quite a few DT's we all like there in the 2nd and we maybe have the ability to move down a bit and try and get an extra 4th rounder and still get the DT and thus give us some ammo to take another CB (who we can convert), a RB, and a speed wideout or line backer (i'm even ok with another DT).
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 8, 2014 -> 07:51 PM) We'll see. He's more athletic for sure but I'm not sold on him making NFL throws at all. Durability will be his biggest issue. He should be a great fit in Shanny's offense, just a major question of will he be able to stay on the field.
  20. I like what Browns have done. I really liked getting the CB. I have quietly been pushing CB over safety (in fact had MLB over safety too) and would have taken CB or Mosely over either safety, especially Ha Ha who I think is very overrated. I think in this deep corner draft we'll see Bears select another corner, who they think they can move to free safety. We got a guy who some thought was the top corner in the draft @ 14. I'll take that all day and let Tillman and company help coach him and prepare him. I hope we get another young guy to join the secondary and think it will be a third or 4th rounder that we convert. You can find good safety's late and that guy doesn't have to be a safety as you can teach a corner to be a safety and succeed (and I love the idea of having a guy that is a good cover guy at safety…clearly they have to be able to tackle too).
  21. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 8, 2014 -> 06:47 PM) I also wanted Pryor or Ha-Ha........ safety a way bigger need than corner this season....................Conte again this year makes me vomit. I think Bears thought McDonald was going to fall to them Rams took him at 13. I wonder If Fuller starts at corner and Tillman moves to safety. I wanted to move down given Donald went, however, Fuller has some nice tools and I think having a strong cover corner more important then safety. Happy with the pick but I was one of the few that kept talking up the Bears taking a corner over safety and a lot of that had to do with the fact that I didn't think this was an elite safety class and therefor felt it may not make sense to take one in the first round. Like going db as a whole knowing there should be a DT available in the 2nd round that has a first round grade (hopefully at least).
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ May 8, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) Hell yeah I'd trade 14 down to 18. If Donald is there, i probably don't, although you still might have to consider it given the depth at DT. I think at 18 we will definitely be able to get one of the guys one my list and getting an extra 3rd rounder would be pretty beneficial.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 8, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) Word is that Lovie really likes Donald and will not let him get past the Bucs I heard some circles say the Bucs are the one team in the top 15 thinking about Manziel still too. If they don't take him, they will take Donald. Unless Mike Evans slips to them.

    I'm Back

    WB Reddy. This sounds very interesting. Should be an awesome experience and documentary.
  25. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 8, 2014 -> 07:27 AM) I have a feeling the Bears might move back. I know they need a safety and that is mocked to them alot, but I'm not sure teams are that high on Clinton-Dix and Pryor. Honestly, I like Bucannon better than both of those guys. Only thing we can hope is there is more and more smoke to these Manziel to Dallas fires and some team that likes Manziel a lot, cuts a deal with us to move ahead of Dallas. That or some other guys will have to drop. I am a proponent of moving down, presuming Donald isn't there.
