QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 08:37 AM) wow...put that in perspective with what the Rams just did.... #1 pick for #5 pick and a 3rd rounder vs. #2 pick for #6 pick, two more 1st rounders, 1 more second rounder That isn't right. They got more than a 1st pick and a 3rd rounder. I believe it was another 1st round pick as well. Or at the very least a future 2nd round pick. I'm 100% sure it was more than just a 1st and 3rd. Edit: Yep, 1st, 2nd (2012), and 3rd rounders, and Tim Dwight (Univ of Iowa) The Falcons got the opening pick in exchange for the fifth overall pick in the first round, their third-round pick, their second-round pick in 2002 and wide receiver Tim Dwight.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 08:33 AM) iirc brees was the other qb in the vick draft eli was in there with rivers and big ben cutler was in a different draft with leinart and young Brees was a 2nd round pick in Vicks year (Chargers used the 1st pick in the 2nd round to get him). Took Tomilson with the pick they got from Atlanta. Yep, my bad on Cutler.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) man, this is going to be a complicated discussion. Luck is a pure passer, RG3 can pass and run. Sort of similar to the Vick and Manning draft, Manning came out on top due to the Superbowls, but Vick has always had the hype and the glamor. Peyton was in the same draft as Ryan Leaf(who went #2). Not sure the other QB's in Vick's draft off the top of my head and I believe Eli was with Rivers (who the Chargers got in the trade, along with other picks), Cutler, etc.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) Yes please! In other news, the Redskins have a deal with the Rams for the 2nd pick in the draft. The Rams will get the 6th pick, two future 1sts and additional 2nd, per Jay Glazer and Adam Schefter. And Mark Sanchez signs an extension in NY. Take two more teams out of the Manning sweepstakes. Impressive haul for the Rams. They are in a really good position now.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) I'd say about 200k tax free...or not worth it to me. Or are we talking about walking away forever and not getting a new job? The above number is if I could walk away but go back to work for a different company. The only debt I have is my mortgage, but I'd need the 200k to sustain myself for a while...then go back to work in a year or so. Otherwise it would take multiple millions...also tax free. agreed. To not work again, its going to take a few million (and it damn well has to be tax free).

That is freaking terrible. No way is that a fair deal. If Lakers pull of that deal, they are the best team in the league. I'm assuming those teams are doing these deals as salary dumps?
-
It would be Scola and Lowry. Lakers want a pg and they want more depth. They won't be doing any deal 1 for 1 involving Pau (unless its something ridiculously in their favor).

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 05:45 AM) So has talent out west just dried up, or are players leaving and going elsewhere for some reason (more money, better facilities, schools too focused on football?) I think you just had some issues happen. UCLA has had its problem with Howland handling some of its stars. Arizona lost Lute (and lost a lot of talent off last years team that made a team run). Washington is usually pretty strong but has some issues. Stanford has had to transition after losing Mike Montgomery (who was a machine at getting his team into the tourney's). USC was hit with some issues and had to rebuild (OJ Mayo/Tim Floyd stuff). I won't be surprised when it is back to being one of the premiere basketball conferences (which for a period of time, it was a hell of a basketball conference). -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) What the hell happened, Gage? Dissapointing. 3 point shooting went cold. UCI won. Uggh. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 9, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) He's a pretty physical corner as well, isn't he. That isn't the kind of defense that the Bears are known for. Maybe that would change if he came, but could be a bad fit. I actually think that fits well. Tillman is a pretty physical corner.

Probably about a million.

I really really like Corteland Finnegan. However, it sounds like he'll be pricey.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/ I really like reading that and I really think Ozzie was terrible at the above. Our team was a really bad fundamental team the past few years.

When I worked for Beckman Coulter, they ran lean/six sigma. I wasn't in the production side to really get into the specifics, nor was I there long enough. It is an interesting concept and strategy and there are pro's/con's too it. However, one thing that stood out when I researched it a bit, is that very few companies have seen long-term sustained success as a result of going "lean". The biggest knock is that it can take away creativity and R&D development which hinders long-term future growth.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 08:56 AM) Everyone has blown Rip's defensive abilities far beyond what they are because of one quote typed up when the Bulls signed him claiming that he gave D-Wade fits. However, that was referring to the offensive end, not the defensive end, because Rip runs around screens. It had nothing to do with his defense. First, cut the "blown", comment, it isn't necessary. Second, while people have overrated Rip's defensive ability, he is a solid defender and he can play good team defense. And part of his game is definitely wearing out his defender by running through screens, etc, which will than tire out said player on the offensive side of the court (and effective strategy).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 08:09 AM) He IS the problem. D'Antoni might still get fired. I realize Lin has probably saved him for the near term, but the team's superstars are still completely underperforming. Whether you look at Melo or Amare (who is having a bad year by his standards). The only bright side is, I got a feeling, Melo will eventually move on from New York and he might just turn back into the player that he previously was. Like you Steve, I thought Melo was well above average in Denver. I think the difference is George Karl is an elite coach, where as D'Antoni, is a solid coach, but a very flawed coach and I don't think his overall style is conducive to Melo.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 07:54 AM) The sox got Castro for Quentin and Molina for Santos. Woops...I knew I had that backwards. That's what happens when I've been stuck working as much as I have been. Clearly higher expectations for Molina since you gave up Santos for him.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 07:54 AM) Watson knows the system, but Lucas has also came in a did a good job. The drop off between Watson and Lucas isn't that huge to hold the Bulls back from getting a legitimate 6th man. Plus we can use Crawford at point on occasions. Come playoff time, Derrick will be playing 40 minutes a night, the necessity for a guy like Watson will diminish. We currently doesn't have a legitimately 6th man and a scoring threat off the bench. Come playoff time, you can bring Crawford off the bench and he can give you instant offense, which is really something we were missing in last year's playoff. I also find it every important for the Bulls to have another guy who can handle the ball (Deng or Rip isn't the guy), especially when teams are trapping Derrick at half court. If we are facing Miami, and if Lebron is shutting down Rose, Crawford gives the Bulls another guy who can get his own shot. Crawford could be a bigger upgrade than you think, because he possess the skills that the Bulls desperately needs right now. Watson is a good ball handler who come playoff time will be more important, imo. Your rotations get shorter but a guy like Watson, who is probably our best player off the bench (along with Taj & I guess you could argue Brewer), is still going to play a key role. Especially in the instance that teams are pressing the crap out of Rose. You than have a guy like Watson who can bring the ball up and run the point and you can work various screen actions to get the ball in Rose's hands as the off-guard. Watson is also significantly better than John Lucas. And this is coming from someone who doesn't think Watson is great, but the dude would start for at least 5 or 6 teams in this league.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) I know. Somehow I put this post that should have been in the gamethread here accidentally. But the Angels announcers were talking about Veal and quoting Cooper on "tall lefties" and they used the Matt Thornton Miracle as an example. I wish Molina was a lefty, I would feel better about him after the way he got lit up like a Christmas tree yesterday. Its spring training. Results matter to an extent but this is much more a time about guys getting into shape and their groove. Plus, Molina is young, I don't expect him to dominate to start. If his stuff looks lousy a couple weeks from now and continues into the year, than people have right to get a little frustrated with what the club got for Santos.

MLB officially announces 10-team expanded playoffs
Chisoxfn replied to SoxFan1's topic in The Diamond Club
I still preferred going back to a 2 divisional format with 2 wild card winners and the old playoff setting. At the very least, I think it should be the 2 worse teams that make the playoffs have the 1 game playoff. Bottom line the best teams should get a shot at duking it out and I think adding a one game playoff, while interesting, is pretty crappy on those teams that get there. If I was a 92 win wild card team and there was an 88 win division winner) and the other wild card winner had 86 wins, I'd think it would be pretty crappy if I got knocked out because they fluked into 1 win (which is very easy in a sport like baseball). -
I will point out, I still wonder if that report is true. I wonder if when the league digs up emails they find out that such story is false and those emails never existed. If they did, than the league will find the emails, verify them, and at that point, Payton is in some serious trouble.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 07:18 AM) Struggle to see the bulls trading CJ for only a slight positional upgrade when he knows this system already and Thibs truss him. It isn't the type of move that helps the Bulls win a title and puts them in a more difficult spot. We still have Watson under contract at least one more year too, where as Crawford would be free. Plus, I think Butler could be a solid role player in time. If I had one knock on Thibbs it is that we haven't seen near enough of Butler. I want that kid to get experience, especially since we have had a lot of blowout wins. He could become a critical backup for Luol in the future.
