  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 10:46 PM) NY Post reporting he "slugged" a woman at a night club recently and now she is filing charges. Apparently he was involved in a fight with another football player and it's unknown whether he intended on hitting the other guy or the woman. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/nfl_rec...0KcuIXf8PiXfiIO Ny Post is one story. His attorney with another story. This sounds bad. Incident happened last night so it doesn't surprise me the Bears didn't know. That said, this could impact the overall trade. It also could result in Marshall being suspended. And more importantly, it means not only is he bat s*** crazy (which I can deal with) but he's abusive (which I have a problem with). I know he got stabbed but I wasn't aware of him having any issues with him doing the hitting. To me he was just Chuck Finley (but that might not be the case).
  2. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/nfl_rec...0KcuIXf8PiXfiIO Ah s***.
  3. Sean Jensen ‏ @skjensen Reply Retweet Favorite · Open RT @AdamSchefter: Bears WR Brandon Marshall was involved in another incident that could lead to an NFL review. Uh oh.
  4. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 08:19 PM) Honestly, I don't know much about Mincey but if he is a good DE I'd be fine signing him over Mario and with the money saved also bringing in someone like Atogwe or a OLB to help the team in multiple areas. Just to point this out, Atogwe missed most of last year due to injuries. He's a good player when healthy but this is 2 straight years he has struggled with injuries. I don't think he's that big of an impact player. If he's healthy sure, but that is a big risk you are taking. Personally I want Whimbley or Mario. If the Bears can afford Mario, why not. Dude is a beast and Bears shouldn't have a ton of guys coming due to get paid (outside of Forte & Melton) and Mario would make a huge difference on the defense. Bears can than target oline, cb, lb, and wideout via the draft.
  5. Bears still in on Williams, who is leaving Buffalo having not signed a deal. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...bell-signs.html
  6. Not 100% on that deal. I posted the link from another site. Might be rubbish. Note: Looking on twitter I see nothing. So consider that a fake report.
  7. @JayGlazer Mario Williams signs a 7 year deal with Buffalo, 52 Million guaranteed. Working on the details.
  8. Great signing. Hope we never have to see him play a meaningful snap.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora Reports: Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte will agree to a contract extension within the next 24 hours. That is a fake rumor. IT is not on his twitter.
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) has there been any word on which 3rd round pick we are giving up? I have to assume its the panthers one this year, which is #73 overall the 73rd pick has a value of 225 pts in the NFL value charts. Assuming conservatively that the bears will pick 22 overall next year - their third round pick will be #86 overall, worth 160 pts http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php so the bears gave up 385 pts for marshall, which correlates to the #51-52 pick overall - so basically would the bears have gotten a guy at that draft spot equal to Marshall - almost certianly not just for comparisons sake - i found this which is actually pretty nice, showing what recent WRs have been traded for (as of 2010) http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patrio...-wr-trades.html It was the Panthers pick.
  11. Royal excelled with Shanny. The deal is supposedly not final, according to PFT.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) Supposedly there's some options being tossed around from the Bulls to the Magic. Noah, Boozer, Watson for Howard, Turkoglou if Dwight will simply opt-in for next year (ala Deron, ala CP3) Notice, no Deng. I'd totally do it. I really like Taj.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) Eh, he's had a subpar year by his standards. Boozer's actually been more efficient than Gasol this season in terms of shooting. But still, its f***in' Pau Gasol. Gasol and Noah down low would kick major ass. Its cause the Lakers offense is a mess.
  14. I want me some Pau. But I don't see how Watson & Boozer plus parts work but I'd endorse it. Pau is a stud.
  15. Love the Marshall move. He's bat s*** crazy but he's a hell of a player.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Life is so s***ty sometimes. A friend of mine found out seriously last week that he had cancer in his brain, and this morning he's already dead. Holy crap. Terrible news. So sorry about your loss Steve.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) If Indiana can come back from their black hole, Illinois can come back, you just need to both make sure you have quality facilties and have coaches who understand the position they're starting at. Indiana is a more legendary program than Illinois but I agree. All of the major big 10 programs have a lot of resources so if they have the right coach, they should be able to excel. I personally look forward to seeing what Iowa can do now that they finally have invested some resources into the basketball program.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 09:28 AM) It's historical. UCONN was nothing until the last 20 years. I don't understand why people can't read that list (and the summary of the list) and understand that. Illinois is a top 15 job. Anyone that thinks otherwise is out of their mind. From the recruiting base to the fans to the tradition. There are a select few powerhouse programs (UNC, Duke, Kentucky, etc), and then there's the level just underneath and Illinois is there. Funny that people point to the last 5-6 years to prove how average they've been, yet they ignore the decade before that, when they won 5 conference titles in an 8 year period. With a good coach, you are a top 20 program. I don't disagree with that. However, new programs have emerged and stepped in as well. For example, the Uconn's of the world. Teams like Arizona as well (although we still have to see how they do without Lute and if they can continue there recent success).
  19. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 09:09 AM) That has UCONN 54th All-Time, so I'll take that ranking with a grain of salt as far as level of prestige. UCONN is rated so low because for a long time they weren't a meaningful program. The problem is, to a large extent, what matters is what you have done in the past 10 years. The overall ratings factor the lifetime of a program but recruits care about what has happened now (or pretty recently) in most instances. Very few programs can get away without that (e.g., a Notre Dame in football, who despite falling, still gets ton of air time, etc). The reality is Iowa has stunk the past 10 years as a program and as such, no one remembers when they were consistently playing in the tourney and playing into the sweet 16. Illinois at least has had more recent success but clearly Uconn is far more relevant of a program now. All time, I'd still argue Uconn is better because they've won what counts a couple times (National Championships). Note: If you look at top programs by decade, you will see Uconn ranked 6th in the 1990's and 9th in the 2000-2009 range. Which is pretty accurate given that is when the program became most relevant.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 08:28 AM) I feel like there's a lot of "we have to do something" moves they've made. Keeping Gortat and Reddick despite big cap numbers on both of them, dealing for Turkoglu back after letting him walk, the Arenas deal, trading for Vince Carter, signing Brandon Bass, signing Quentin Richardson etc. They've been scraping and clawing to "avoid falling back" and then trying to hit a home run by going for guys like Carter and Arenas who have had down times. Let me ask you this. What does losing Gortat/Reddick do for the Magic? It isn't like if they didn't, they'd have had all kinds of cap room. None of those deals really put them in a financial mess. They were already in a financial mess.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) Part of the problem in all these spots is why they wind up not having good parts around him...and it seems to me, the answer invariably is that they keep trading for guys that Howard wants. The Cavs did the same thing...they didn't make moves (i.e. trading Szczerbiak's expiring deal for a better player) because Lebron didn't want them to, then they made other deals (Shaq) because Lebron wanted them to, and it kept them from really growing the team they needed. No one has made more aggressive and borderline insane trades the last few years than the Magic, and I'll bet those trades haven't happened over Howard's objections. Otis Smith is supposedly a pretty well thought of gm. They haven't made any horrendous trades (that I remember). Rashard Lewis didn't dominate when he left. They did acquire Arenas in an odd move, but the reality is, they just haven't had a ton of talent. I think Dwight has lobbied to add players and how much he's made decisions, I don't know, but they haven't gotten the right guy yet.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) He has that opportunity right now. He doesnt want it I don't disagree. However, the reality is, money counts, and he clearly is more concerned with other things. That is his right. He has a chance to get paid the most in Orlando. And they can still put a good team around him to help him win. I think Chicago makes a ton of sense and I keep hoping he comes to his senses, but if he wants to be the star and best player on his team, I won't bust his balls for that. Afterall, that is what I wanted LBJ to do. Now if he goes to a team like the Heat, than that is blasphemy.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 13, 2012 -> 08:04 AM) We've already proven that Howard does not mean a championship. He's had plenty of time and plenty of support. He's going to pair up with another superstar in another location, and there's no stopping that. Sadly, that star won't be Rose, for whatever zany reasoning he has, but it will be someone. Either way, the Magic making it known he can decide the fate of their coach and General Manager makes the organization look unprofessional. Jesus, a guy with barely a high school education hiring and firing your GM is the dumbest thing I've ever heard proposed. That team is pretty bad. Jameer Nelson, etc. They really haven't had very good parts around Dwight. Dwight is a beast and can win titles in this league if you put him around a good wing player. That hasn't really happened yet in his career. I will admit when they had Rasheed and Turk playing well they were decent but that team was never full of elite talent and he's never had another top 20 player on his team.
